Strength:

Vocals, Imaging, Big sound

Weakness:

Not very easy to set up. There pretty big

After a couple months of listening, moving, and tweaking,
the speakers are ready for review.
Current setup is:
Califrnia Audio cl-10 CD player
Morrison ELAD Pre-amp
Llano Trinity 200 watt amp
VR6's

The speakers sounded great from 100 hz up when I started but seemed weak at the low end. I talked to Albert VonSchweichert about this. This is unbelievable to
to me. I bought the speakers used, he makes no money from me and he talks to me for 30 minutes. Well the result of our conversation is my log house with the high ceilings
or the amp are not allowing the bass to come out. The speakers, Albert assures me are flat at 20Hz. So he sells me a resistor box (at cost) to hook up to the mid and treble section. Two settings and of course no distortion.
This makes a tremendous difference. Rounds out the music
very well. The high were always strong. Cymbols sound so clean. The vocals are something special. I was listening to Louis Armstrong and he all but wiped the sweat from his brow. The vocals sound center stage between 5 and 6 feet tall. When Emmy Lou Harris talked at the beginning of "Mary Danced with Soldiers" and my head just whipped around thinking someone was in the room. I play this for others
and they respond the same way. Kenny G's "Summertime" sounds like a quartet playing in the living room. Drums in the back, sax in front, a couple others musicians hanging around Kenny G. Nice sound stage. Nice imaging.

None of these albums were my favorites before the VR6's
came along. They are now. My guitar playing freind came over and brought Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Vodoo child (not a great recording but some fine work). About 1 minute into the song he jumps straight up. He could not sit down. He was in the bar with Stevie. Pretty scary. My system (I can't give all the credit to the speakers) really rewards well done cd's but they don't have to be perfect. Emerson Lake and Palmer's "Still You Turn Me On"
shows off the speakers great range (thanks to Albert) and proves some old cd's still sound great.

What would I do different with the system? Only 1 thing. Bi-amp the speakers. The previous owner did and I know Albert did when he showed off the speakers. More than once the speakers were chosen best in show, so I'm not alone in my high praise, but they always had multiple amps. More power to the bass. The VR6 will work with about any power from 10 watts to 1000 watts. Talk to Albert he'll set you straight.

Strength:

imaging,speed, naturalness of sound

Weakness:

slightly weak in the bass

Having had VR-4's for a year, I thought that my speaker buying days were over. They're a great speaker. But Albert brought the 6's to our Western New York Audio Society meeting. I heard them, and knew that I was doomed! They were doing things that I never heard before. After talking with Albert V.S., I ordered a pair. Both him & his son brought them down to me and installed them. The imaging is razor-sharp, if the "software" is of this type. But they are so natural sounding, that you can get lost in their spell. And they are quick, from top to bottom. The minor weak spot, I believe, is in the bass. It didn't seem as strong as I thought it should be. A friend came to the rescue, we wired 4 10 ohm-10watt resistors in series with the mid-tweeter module. This did it, the bass is stupendous! Put something with deep bass on, and run for cover. They're flat to 20 cycles here. How much lower they go, who knows? Associated equipment--Counterpoint SA-5000 preamp-Conrad Johnson MV-125 amp- Melos CD-T bit CD player-VPI TNT Mk 3 table w/ Graham arm & Audioquest nsx7000 cartridge. I recently purchased a PS Audio 300 Power Plant, this unit is awesome! My stuff is on steroids now, an incredible piece!

I like my VR6 very much. I use them in a home theater (all Krell) with the LCR31 center channel, TC310 rears and Tower of Power sub. It is too bad they company went out of business because I feel they have the most natural vocals of any speaker I have listened to. Soundstage is huge and the bass is tight.
