Strength:

Superb lows from such a small size, very clean and accurate.

Weakness:

The grills are a bit flimsy, if you take care not to damage them, they will be fine though.

When I first purchased these speakers and hooked them up, I was a bit disappointed. After reading the reviews here, I decided to give them a second chance and break them in. Boy was I surprised at the difference!!! The whole sound was entirely different!! The lows went deeper and were cleaner, the highs were not harsh anymore!! After break in, I had a whole new speaker. These are probably the best purchase I have made in a long time. Granted, these speakers are not the "best" out there, but for the price, they cannot be beat.

Strength:

Attractive design, solid construction, great price.

Weakness:

Front grills are cheaply constructed. Silver lettering is a bit cheesey.

This review is for the 7.2 Diamond Edition. The best $45 I''ve spent in the past couple of years. Surprisingly solid build quality and sound quality that has more than exceeded my expectations, especially for a speaker in this price range. Deeper bass response than one might expect and treble is not quite as muddy as some reviews may have you believe. The hardware you connect the 7.2''s to will effect your listening experience. Upgrading my receiver from a JVC to a Denon seems to have made all the difference in the world. No, these aren''t quite audiophile quality but nothing comes close in this price range, especially if your budget limits your choices to off the shelf JBL, Yamaha or Bose speakers. Consider the Wharfedale''s first.

Strength:

Best for it's price. Good looking.

Weakness:

Bass ends to ab. 50Hz at -6dB.
Soundpicture isn't very deep or 3d.
Treble isn't so airy and natural.
Resonances at hi mid.

This Diamond 7.2 ANNIVERSARY (not just 7.2) speaker is at very top in my favorite list.
This is the highest quality what you can get in this price category.
Not for bassmonkeys, this is for hifi listeners.

Strength:

High performanceSmall size and low price

I needed to purchase a small speaker to replace my
venerable Polk Monitor 10's due to size restrictions
dictated by a new home entertainment center.
I find these speakers provide suprisingly strong and
clean sound, easily playing as loud as I would care to listen without a sense of straining.
Bass output is also very robust, considering it's size,
but I would recommend a subwoofer for home theater
applications.
You can find these for under $400 a pair.
They are an outstanding bargain. Highly recommended!

Strength:

Tight sound, great bass.

Weakness:

None I could figure for speakers of that price.

Amazing how much sound clarity and bass one can get from spekers of such small size. I had to get out of the pair of radio shack speakers that I had for a year in a hurry. Since I diddn't have a lot of cash to buy something expensive, my audiophile room mate directed me to the diamond 7. I won't regret a day for buying these speakers. Even if I buy bigger, more powerful, higher priced ones, these two are going to stay with me as long as they want. For one who is just starting off and not willing to spend a lot of cash right now, Wharfedale 7.2 is the way to go. Big sounding speakers for small money.

Strength:

Diminutive sized bookshelf speaker. Workmanship is above average but not superior. My review pertains to the Diamond 7.2 Anniversary Bookshelf Speakers.

Weakness:

Front grill assembly is very unprofessional and attached
poorly to speaker. Manufactured in China. Although the latter fact may not be a weakness, my unit arrived without a warranty card and was packaged insecurely. This does not add credibility to the manufacturer or its processes.

Buyer beware!

The IAG website for Wharfedale advertises the Diamond 7.2
Anniversary Bookshelf Speakers at $350.00 shipping included.
Although I have not yet listened to my new Diamond Anniversary's they hardly look like a pair of $350.00
audiophile level speakers. The Rosewood real wood(?)
veneer finish looks more like cheap plastic. I'm not a
kitchen cabinet maker but, I know real wood when I see it!
The "wood" used in the Wharfedale Diamond 7.2 Anniversary Speakers are comparable to fake wood trim often found in
less expensive cars. I could be wrong, however, it doesn't
look like a real wood veneer finish to me ....

For $88.00 I will not continue to rant and rave about these,
"less than what I expected," Wharfedales. Perhaps, I will be
pleasantly surprised by their dulcet tones. Nevertheless, I
think these speakers are an adequate replacement for a lot of minisystem components or, a dormatory room. The box they
were shipped in, however, indicates audiophile quality.
Is Wharfedale wearing rose colored glasses? Avoid paying
more than a $100 for this less than stellar choice.

Strength:

Price/Value, Clear & crisp sound from a small enclosure.

Weakness:

7.2 lacks bi amp or bi wire (needs gold banana connectors)mounting holes for wall mount, rear ported, name plate should be gold lettering (not silver..looks cheap)on black

This review is for the 7.2 Diamond (Black). I paid $90.00 for the pair including highway robbery shipping costs. Ubid often charges more for shipping than the cost of the product. I have dealt with ubid for over 3 years, mostly puchasing computer stuff, be careful (buyer beware)do research such as these type of reviews before placing any bid. They (ubid) are a pain and so far my luck is 50/50 with them.

Give ya some background to qualify the reviewer: I am young 40 year old with a wide variety of audio/video tastes who has a hobby collecting DVD movies and a roomate who is 24 years old that has over 1000 cd's (mostly classical). The living room is where the av system is. It is a very difficult room for accurate sound reproduction. Size is 17x13 with 3 large traffic entrys and 2 large windows. Lots of furniture and a bird cage (the bird loves music)and a large dog who likes to bump into the speaker stands.

Present Setup:
Teac AVG8050
Pioneer DVD/cd/cdr/mp3
Daewoo DVD/cd/cdr/mp3
Scientific Atlanta Digital Cable Box
Magnovox 30" TV
3M LCD Projector (poor mans big screen 8'x 5')
Pioneer 15" 3 ways/Pioneer 10" 2 ways/JBL 2 ways/JBL center

I received my new pair of diamonds 2 weeks ago after waiting almost a month to get the product. My first opinion was these speakers look great (except for the cheesy silver nameplate) are heavy for being so small and seems to be solidly built. I immediatly hooked them up to the av surround system, disconnecting the front main speakers (pioneers). Popped a CD in and was just blown away. All of a sudden the system became alive. Spent the next 7 hours playing all types of music (classical to techno) and running the speakers to the hilt. Next was to run a test using several different DVD movies from musicals to action flicks. Each day was spent using the speakers in different configurations as rear channel, center channel and main fronts as well as stereo, and different surround modes. Sound is accurate, detailed and with good bass. Special effects even sound more "real". My roomate is a music addict so these speakers get used an easy 18 hours a day. Digital TV was awesome. These speakers outperformed the (Big)pioneers and jbl's. I plan on replacing all speakers now. Put your hand behind the rear port and you can feel the sound (air)being pumped out. I listed this as a weakness for only one reason. I would prefer front ported because I want to mount these speakers against the wall (I want to remove all speakers from the floor. Now I will devise or build some kind of wall mounting bracket that allows at least 6 inches from the rear of the speaker. (commercially available speaker mounts costs more than the speaker).

In summary, for a speaker pair costing $129 from Amazon.com or slightly less at ubid.com, its a great value. I highly recommend these speakers for use as rear channel speakers in an av system. They will also serve well as main speakers for a small room with a low powered system. This is not a speaker for the stuffed shirt audiophile, its not a thousand or more dollars and handcrafted out of hardwood.

After the first week of testing I was so impressed that I purchased 2 more pairs. These will be the Diamond 7.2 anniversary (black). The anniversary model has the gold plated bi wiring speaker connections that I want to use. I will report back again after completion of completely new system using the diamonds and equipment entirely purchased on line including the speaker wire, the terminals, the interconnects, new HK receiver and building some speaker wall mounts. Stayed tuned.

Strength:

The review is for the Diamond 7.1

Weakness:

Nasal quality
Cheap, poorly designed grills. If you have children, you won't have these grills for long.

Ok for $55 shipped. Might make a great surround for an older ProLogic system. Decent mid-range tone. I would be bummed if I had paid any more for them. Made in China, by audiophiles.

Strength:

great sound for its size

Weakness:

bass - really benefits from a sub

These speakers are classic Wharfedale. They pack a lot of sound in a small, not-too-ugly box. Fantastic on jazz, they have a very clean mid-range. They definitely benefit from a sub, even a small one to help out the bass a bit.
