Strength:

Hard to beat for the $. Unconventional grill mounting system spells trouble if you remove the grills.

Weakness:

Overly bright.

This review is for the MFM-1.
I took nearly two weeks of listening for the speakers to loosen-up. They are a fine sounding speaker, but not great. They are a little bright. They are not audiophile-grade speakers. They work well for home theatre uses.
Beware of U-bid shipping practices. They double-bill for shipping. E-mail me for full details.
Given the speakers I have heard lately at the local hi-fi shop, don't spend more than $100 for these, or you will most likely be disapointed.
Given the price I paid, I give the following ratings:

Strength:

Great clarity and imaging. Strong from high through mid bass.

Weakness:

Low, low end slightly weak, but who doesn't have a sub woofer these days?

These are very good true monitor speakers. No coloration and a very clean sound. You'll need to fork out at least $600 a pair to touch them including the Polk and Infinity products. For $170 including shipping from ubid you won't go wrong. (Do the math on the shipping and you can guess the reserve price!)

Weakness:

none as of yet

I was reading a bunch of terrible reviews on certain models of Wharfedale and I was getting kinda sick about my decision to purchase a pair for my mom's new stereo. I use a Boston 555x Center, Infinity Main's(Sterling Series with 6 3/4 woofer and kinda crappy tweeter, not dome!!!) (bookshelf speakers but kinda larger than most) and 2 KLH rear speakers with a dome tweeter and 5 1/4 driver. Then for bass I run a DVC Rockford Fosagte Power Series 12 inch woofer in a professionally custom made box from speakerhole.com. The box is ported for 28 Hertz.

Although my stereo have more to offer than my mom's stereo setup I was only testing the Infinity against the Wharfedales. The model I bought were not the MFM, they were the Monitor 128. They have 1 silk dome tweeter and 1 5 1/4 bass driver.

Right off the bat I noticed an EXCELLENT midrange quality I have only heard in higher end speakers. The highs were softer than the infinity's but sounded crisp and clear, far less artificial. I do not think they match the quality of my Boston Acoustic THX certified speaker, but I really don't want to know if they do, if you understand my drift.
Clearly these speakers are made for vocals because on CD's that I have heard many times, these were demonstrating a clarity I have not heard in Stereo mode without my Boston on.
I wish I could sample the whole Wharfedale line but I'm not sure where they might be around Melbourne, Florida.

If all other Wharfedales are as good as these, I cannot imagine being disappointed unless they are way too high in price compared to the leaders like B&W, Polk and such.
Peace out!

i use these for my rear surround speakers in my home theater system. they are not too bad sounding, but not great either. for the money they are very good deal. sinse i don't use them for the fronts i can't comment on how they perform as primary speaker. maybe these are nice for a second pair of speakers (like for your van or cottage) or for use as acheap pair of surrounds.
