Strength:

sounds great

Weakness:

nothing so far

Even though i was charged $98 for shipping i only recieved 1 speaker, so i can only give a half review, heh heh.

So far i like the sound, compared to the JBL's i am using the MFM-7 sounds better right out of the box.

I mainly watch movies in DTS using a Yamaha RX-V800 which seems to sound pretty decent also..........but it would be nice to do a real review if i had BOTH the fakin speakers that i paid for.........WHO KNOWS HOW LONG ITS GONNA TAKE uBid TO GET THEIR ACT STRAIGHT

Strength:

Sound. Rosewood Cabinets are beautiful.

Weakness:

The Grills and the high cost of shipping from UBID.

I bought the MFM 7's for $218.00 (pair) plus shipping from UBID. I do not work for UDIB.

This set of speakers replaced an old set of Fischer Speakers.

This is the best $218 I have ever spent on speakers. After the break in period of about 40 hours the speakers really started to come in to therir won. I bi-wired them and the sound is fantastic. I am using a Optimus (Radio Shack) 100 watt per channel home theater receiver.

Besides Rock and Classical Music, I am also using these speakers as the fronts for my surround sound system. They sound great especially when using my DVD player. The movie Gladiator never sounded so good !!!

My only complaint is the grills. One of the grills broke the first time I tokk it off, but for $218.00 plus shipping these speakers are a bargain.

I just won a pair of Opal 100's also at UBID.

I recommend these speakers to everyone.

Even with the crappy grills I give this speaker a rating of a 5 !

Happy listening

Strength:

Looks, price, decent sound

Weakness:

grill of course

Very good speaker for the amount of money I put out. They look nice and sound great. For under $300 I can't complain at all.

As for the moron, fred #2, who stated bookshelves as being better than these floor standing Wharfedales, a bit of advice: If I were you, I'd give up any ambitions to be a brain surgeon or rocket scientist.

Strength:

Online auction ordering, delivered to my home

Weakness:

I wasn't able to listen to them, or see them in person before buying

I have to say that I was surprised when these speakers arrived and I began listening to them. After the number a positive reviews I found on this site before I purchased them I expected these speakers to be good for their price point. However, I was disappointed with the build quality as well as the sound quality. The vinyl covering is shiny and plastic looking, not as nice as mid-priced speakers at Good-guys or Best Buy. The speaker units themselves are thin looking and glue around the dustcap is uneven. They are mounted in cheap looking black plastic panels that take up the entire front of the speaker so they really are not appropriate for a nice room witht the grills off. This is unfortunate for me because I broke one of my grills taking the speaker out of the carton. Ok, I know, looks aren't everything so on to the sound. I have new Onkyo receiver that I purchased from Crutchfield, it has 100 watts per channel so it should be powerful enough for these big speakers, but they sound like not all of the music is coming through. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they are "monitors" so they are dry and lifeless by design. I thought that monitors were used by professionals but professional musicians certainly aren't going to use this level of speaker so I don't understand who they are marketed towards. On a positive note, they do make a lot a booming bass.

The bottom line is that I don't find myself wanting to just sit and listen to music through these speakers.

Thanks for reading my review.

Strength:

Great speaker, really clean and smooth.

Weakness:

None

I love these speakers! I also am using the Denon AVR2800 and these sound sweet! Far better than all the other speakers I have owned! The mids and highs are totally smooth and clean, and the bass is great! I played a lot of cd's and DVD's and I have yet to make these speakers distort! If you dont own a pair of these you need to get some! And dont be fooled by the guys trying to sell these on EBAY! Ubid is a great place to buy stuff cheap! I bought my Denon receiver 4 MFM-7's and a Wharfedale center all in the same day and it all arrived in a few days! I also looked at getting the def tec bp 20's and now I am glad I dident! These speakers rock! E-Mail me if you want further details.

Strength:

Clear low-end and good low-end image

Weakness:

Terrible construction, harsh and unclear high-end

I bought it this year(around May) along with bunch of other audio gears. I don't have much to spent so I bought JBL N28 1st. At first, I was pretty disappointed with N28. The sound is terrible: no bass, no treble and no definition. So I bought MFM5 and MFM7. Well, guess due to lack of experience, I found out N28 has a long break-in period. N28 gets better day by day. Not until now I was able to spent sometime with MFM7.

So after I break-in MFM7 with 4 days(12 Hrs each day) of music playing. I start to compare it with N28 side by side with the same setup(One on A other on B). It is the first time I hear the bass that I don't even know existed in my CDs. However, the high-end is less-defined and less-clear in comparison with N28. When I place my ear closer to the tweeter, I find the tweeter sounds harsh and lacks the spectrum between the high and the mid. It is to the point that the bass and the instruments dominate over the vocal. So my initial experience with this is that I am alittle disappointed. From the review given by other user here, this should sound alot better than the average low-end speaker,JBL N28. Compare with N28 which I bought for $150+ a pair with shipping, I'll break out and cry if I spent more than $360 a pair for MFM7.

As for the workmanship, it appears to be less than N28. I bought 4 N28s and all of them seems to be properly constructed. No lose screw nor speaker. I bought 2 MFM5 and 2 MFM7. The one MFM5 speaker's midrange and woofer don't work. It turns out that the cross-over is not properly soldered and there is no contact between the input terminal and the cross-over. I suppose they didn't even test it out once before it leaves their china's factory. Due to that the speaker doesn't work, I had a chance to open up the speaker and take a look at it. The sound-damping paddings are just stapled onto the backwall and dangles from its center. This is just my initial review. After I test it for a few more days, I'll give another review.

If this is a >1000 speaker/pair, I'll give it a 2 star. Since I bought it for about 400, I'll give it 3 stars. The 4 stars are reserved for the ones that I think they are clearly above the average.

Strength:

outstanding highs and mids, and phat bass

Weakness:

grills are cheap

I'm a college kid with a definite budget and you can't beat the performance/price ratio on these babies. I paid about $240 + $40 shipping @ ubid because I wanted black and not rosewood which were about $40 less for the pair.
So far I just biwired them to my harmon/kardon AVR45 ($180 @ ubid) and I've been breaking them with some Rage (for about 30 minutes now) and I'll eventually hit them with some assorted trance, breaks and hip hop . My roommate is supposed to get the center and surrounds, so currently they're the only two speakers wired. The bass even straight out of the box is beyond all expectation, especially considering the h/k is pushing two rather puny drivers with only 65 watts/channel. A few of my fraternity brothers have already asked me where the sub is hidden at (I wish). I'm a sucker for good mids and I've got a great big smile on my face right now. So far the tweeters have only impressed as well, bringing out some sounds I've never noticed on the original Rage album, and trust me I've listened to this thing about a billion times. I must admit I was quite worried about dishing out the cash to ubid not having heard these in person, but I'm definitely more than pleased now. I can't wait till about a week from now when they're sounding even sweeter. If anyone really likes clean highs, full mids, and bass plenty deep enough for a mid sized room: then these are the speakers for you. Don't hesitate to buy these. I'll also re-review these after a few weeks of assorted music and DVD watching to fill you in on Home Theatre and anything else I might notice.

Strength:

Clear sound, smooth, can handle variety from classical to hard rock, even and balanced sound from towers

Weakness:

none yet

The MFM 7's are great speakers, they sound so balanced nothing is overpowering. I was surprised at the amount of bass that they can produce. The tweeters can handle it all, cymbals on Lynyrd Skynyrd, sound incredible. And for classical music, they bring out sound as if some of the instruments are right they. They best assest is the reproduction of real music.

I use mine for my home theater as well, and they sound perfect. I watched Ronin, the other night, the car chase sounded like i was in the cars as they raced through the city. I would definatley reccommend that you bi-wire these speakers after you have broke them in. The sound quality will even go farther. Just remember to remove the metal clip.

For the price I paid and for what retail is for these speakers, I feel I should have brought another pair. If your thinking about buying them, don't pay more than $500 for a pair. You can get them for cheaper, but for the buck and if you get them for a good price you would be hard pressed to fiind a better speaker at that price.
