Strength:

Good flat frequency response with good bass transient response. Hard to beat for price vs. performance.

Weakness:

For the price, I cannot think of anything major.

Extremely good speaker considering the price. The sound is clear and open in the mids and highs, and the bass response is a bit surprising. Drums impact, there is little muddiness and decent low end response is present from woofers of less than seven inches. If you are on a budget, I do not think you will be disappointed. They are flat, however, in their response. If you are used to coloration in your sound, brightness or punchiness, you may be a bit disappointed at first. Give these a chance to break in and allow your ears to do the same. These tend to reproduce what was recorded. If one had an equalizer perhaps you might color the sound to your liking. But, you will be coloring the sound.

Strength:

Excellent Sound

Weakness:

Mid Popping

Compared to everyone else, I feel like I was robbed. I purchased a pair of SP-87 and a Saphire Center (In factory Sealed Boxes) for $500.00 from a local person off the net.

The sound helps me forget that I could have gotten a better deal off of UBid. They sound very nice. Highs are clear and crisp. Mids are detail and forward. Bass is more than adequate for the woofs size/use a good subwoofer, thou!

My power is supplied by Yamaha DSP-A1. I have damaged 3 midranges so far. They tend to pop at mod to high volume. Be cautious.

After talking to others about the popping I am trying the Bi-wiring option to ease the stress on the speakers. THEY SOUND AWESOME NOW!!!

Gotta go and listen to my speakers....Need to forget that I paid more than you guys!!!!!!!

Strength:

Superb imaging, smooth/tight bass--not boomy, excellent treble, great cabinet size

Weakness:

Flimsy Grilles

I purchased the SP-87's off u-bid with very limited knowledge of Wharfedale, but assumed for the price ($104 each), they would be much better than my crappy Yahama towers. My assumption proved true when they arrived a week later, and I hooked them up to my Kenwood 100WPC receiver to play Track 1 (Autumn Leaves) from "Somethin' Else" by Cannonball Adderley. The sound was incredible!!!

I spent a good portion of the weekend trying out various CDs ranging from Classical to Jazz to Alternative Rock to Disco. These SP-87's brought out the best with Miles Davis, Dave Matthews Band, Diana Krall, Ottmar Liebert, Dvorak and ABBA.

Since I'm only about 20 hours into the break-in period, I am confident my expectations will be exceeded further. The posts on this forum have also boosted my confidence in these speakers, as well as the Wharfedale brand. In addition to purchasing these SP-87's, I also purchased the matching Centre Channel. Unfortunately, I do not yet have an A/V receiver, but couldn't pass up the low uBid price of $69 for a matching center.

The service at uBid was impressive. I originally bid on the Rosewood models, but later in the day wanted to cancel my order since the color would not blend in well with my decor. Within 15 minutes, a rep from uBid was on the phone to assist. To make this long story short, I replaced my bid on a pair of Black Ash. Ubid's shipping charges are high, but the overall cost is still low in comparison to what you would pay for somthing of much less quality at a retail chain.

I'm thinking about purchasing some SP-83's for the rear channels instead of shelling-out $500 on in-wall Paradigm speakers. I like the idea of in-wall speakers, but the price and labor involved for installation may be worth the sacrifice of placing the SP-83's. Does anyone have an opinion here???

Strength:

none whatsoever!!

Weakness:

all

The worst Pair of speakers that I've ever purchased.
Quality is rock bottom, one speaker came dead out of the box. I found out that the wire connection to the terminal was not connected upon opening up the speaker!!! After a couple of days of usage, the tweeter had stopped working. Bam, after dismantling the glued onto the box tweeter, found out the wire had come undone!!! The specifications say the speaker box is made of Medium Density fiber-board, bull$##@$, Cheap cheap particle wood!! And Lastly, they would have you believe that these speakers were European? Bologna! These SPEAKERS WERE MADE IN CHINA!!!!

My recommendation is to audition the speakers before you buy!!

So far, after buying 3 pairs of speakers within the last year, none can compare to my pair of PARADIGM ATOMS I had purchased about 8years ago for $180!! BEST 180 bucks I've ever spent!

Strength:

Maybe price

Weakness:

Most everything

A very low quality speaker. I am surprised at how many people below get these speakers brand new and have a driver fail. They still give them a good rating. Some have loose wires. Many people had drivers fail. A lot of people have had trouble with the speaker covers breaking. Popping noise a moderate volume levels. Some say "it's not too bad, hopefully it will go away". Are you crazy? Speakers that make popping noises are not good. With all this trouble, people are still giving these speakers 4 or 5 stars. How many stars would you give to a set of speakers that worked properly right out of the box? A million?
