Strength:

Very nice and deep sound

Weakness:

Just the grill but it is not a big deal push it hard goes in

I just set it up these to my receiver Denon 3801(by the way this receiver worth every penny too).I couldn't believe the quality on these speakers and get them just $144 each is a steal for me.After 20-30 hours use can't wait to see.
Can't go wrong with these speakers, is anyone knows how we getting these $140-$190 price range?

These speakers sound great but my neighbors hate them. So how would I describe the sound of these monolithic towers? Close to perfect balance, good depth and imagery, clear highs and mids. Bass that is not only heard but is also deep and loud enough where it could impact the structural integrity of your home's foundation. Utilizing a high quality silk tweeter vs a tinny metal one produces a sound quality that is very British in nature and slightly laid-back. The only negative thing that I can say about this speaker is the relatively poor workmanship and cheap cabinetry which partially explains the price, only $500/pair at uBid. Three stars for build quality and 5 stars for sound and value.

How do the English build awoofer that speaker $500 at uBid and worthHow do you build a audiophile speaker system that can compete with Great drivers

Like other that have posted I purchased the speakers online (ubid) for just under $500/pr. I have a good amp (Sony TAN9ES), decent CD player (Sony DVP S7000), and high quality interconnects/speaker cable. The one weak link is the pre-amp. I haven't yet purchased a dedicated unit. Currently using my Sony Wega TV since it offers a variable out and several sets of inputs.
I'm certianly not an experienced audiophile but have a decent ear for music. Re-arranged my entertainment center/living room for proper placement and positioning of the speakers and to open up the soundstage as best possible. First test music of choice was Billy Joel and Sublime.

Sound quality for a pair of $500 speakers is nothing short of incredible (IMHO). Most immediately noticable are the vocals. Voices are realistic and natural sounding, to the point of inducing a serious grin. The center stage is sufficiently strong. The seperation of instruments is also very impressive. The different drivers do an excellent job of not stepping all over eachother. Bass reproduction is good, especially for a ported speaker. Easily strong enough for most people and not boomy. My Infinity sub now seems redundant when watching movies. Phase reproduction was also strong enough to send my head turning when listening to dolby encoded movies.

If there is a fault, the overall build quality and materials seem decent but nothing more. If I spent $2000 on them I'd want better materials.

But for $500 I don't know how they sell so cheap. An outstanding speaker for the money

As an update:
After playing around considerable with placement I'd listen carefully to the recommendation provided. Don't place the speakers closer then 20 inches or so from a back wall or the soundstage will suffer, particularly in width. I also found the aligning the speakers so they fire not quite directly at the listener provided the best overall soundstage. Making sure both speakers were set equally also helped. Most importantly, I was finally able to "hide" the speakers within the soundstage.

As a follow-up:

I've been using the speakers for a couple weeks now, and still love 'em. I hooked a pair of Sapphire 83's as surrounds. They're great bookshelves, but don't compare with the big ones.

Anyway, after writing the last review, I started to notice a buzzing in the mid- of my left speaker on certain songs (it was very painful when instruments like harps or flutes were playing on all the Christmas music).

I called up IAG America, the U.S. distributor for Wharfedale and spoke to Jeff. He told me that those drivers were made with some really tight tolerances to improve performance. Unfortunately, if they get banged around during shipping, those drivers can be fragile and misalign, causing the buzz. He was really nice about the whole thing, overnighted me new mid- AND bass units (just in case), and gave me quick instructions on fixing it.

I was EXTREMELY impressed. I don't think I could get that level of service from the A/V store down the street, let alone on the other side of the country. It's nice to know that they stand behind their product like that. This bumps up my review to a 5+++!

Strength:

Imaging and decent Mids.

Weakness:

May be bass but if u bi-wire 'em they sound terrific.

I have had this speakers for two weeks and they are getting
better everyday especially since I bi-wired them with
Kimber cable! Now I can hear good deep bass and tight mids.
Bi-wiring with quality cables really helps these speakers.

Strength:

Value, Loud, Great Soundstage

Weakness:

Overbright midtones can cloud some of the details

Let me start with what I don't like... the female singers all sound like they're shouting. The voices are not built naturally, but rather they jump at you.
With that out of the way, let me tell you why you should buy one. First is the price. At under $400 delivered from ubid, I almost feel that I have no right to complain. I've auditioned PSB's, Tannoys, B&Ws and those tiny boxes will never deliver the tonal separation at very high decibels that these do. Second is the volume and these are certifiably LOUD. I've thrown all 400 watts of my Marantz at it... and while I and my neighbors were distressed the speakers remained composed. Third is it's presence. These are best listened to (at leat my preference) at low volumes. This is when they are more sonically aligned and balanced and the soundstage seems within your reach.
Don't hesitate at this price you will be hard pressed to find speakers that are these fast and tight on such a broad range.

Strength:

price,looks
3 year warranty-IAG

Weakness:

These are close-outs discontinued units.
Thats why we can buy them @ubid and no where else.

Good speakers for the $$$. Not $2200ea. speakers.
The latest blue version has different drivers.
IAG claims that they work better with lower grade amps.
Probably because they are a lower grade speaker!
Remember, bid low there will be more!!!!!!

NONE YET

I MUST SAY I READ ALL THE REVIEWS AND I AM COMPLETELY SATIFIED WITH MY SPEAKERS THE STERO IMAGE IS FANTASTIC. I ALSO BOUGHT THE 87'S AND LET ME TELL YOU MY SYSTEM SOUND REAL GOOD COMPARE TO SOME HIGH PRICE SYSTEM. I ALSO PURCHASE MY SPEAKERS THROUGH UBID. THE SPEAKERS CAME WITHOUT ANY DAMAGED OR DEFECTS. I HAVE A THE YAMAHA RV 1105 AND THE SOUND IS INCREDIBLE. I HAD JBL'S AND BOSE HOOK UP AND THERE IS NO COMAPRISON WITH THE PRICE I PAID FOR THE WHARFEDALES AND THE OTHERS. I FELT I WAS ROBBED BY THE STORE BRANDS. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEMS WITH OTHERS USING THESE SPEAKERS BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD PAIR OF SPEAKERS FOR UNDER $200 EACH YOU CANNOT GO WRONG. I DID WITH THE JBL'S AND BOSE.
