Strength:
Good mid-volume sound, wihtout being tinny even though bass is a bit low at lower volumes in comparason to mid- and high- frequencies.
Weakness:
Build quality shockingly poor, poor blending of drivers at higher volumes. I have these speakers connected to a Sony STR-DE835, with other Yamaha speakers rounding out the lineup. I've used them in three different rooms and several different placements in each of thee rooms. They haven't been bi-wired, but I have tried them with and without the bass/midrange + tweeter crossbar in place. First, I was disappointed when directly after getting them home and put together, the plastic feet broke off. Then the pegs holding the grilles in place broke of while removing them. "Oh well", I thought, "Must have yanked 'em off too hard." However since them I've noticed that the laminate outer covering has been seperating from the interior MDF in the humidity (from 40-100% during the year), and sound quality has been dropping as anyone would expect it too. Overall I find that the bass is overpowered at lower volumes without b-wiring, and then when driven to higher volumes, the bass will keep on coming while the tweeters pratically pop out o their housings, distorting the upper frequencies al to hell. However their mid-volume sound quality is fairly good, with clear midrange and highs. |
