Strength:
So what is good about the Acoustimass set ? Obviously that women like it. I really think it’s the main reason so many got sold. But to be honest. Let’s look at how the majority of people use a sound system. In the morning the radio gets turned on to the fav channel and most of the time anyone is home, that’s about it. So just some ambient sounds on the background, listening to songs they play and, and that’s where the Cubes perform well, listening to news broadcasts and the moderators joke about latest trends or celebs. The cubes are made for speech, they give an articulate bandwith for spoken word. So the majority or people are happy with the system. Cause when that one great song is on, and they crank up the volume, the sub gives some bass and it seems like a lot is going on. To people like that, Bose is a winner. What’s more, the Cubes are acually well build and after 20+ years none of the speakers broke or deteriorate. Weakness:
If you ‘re into audio and love to listen to well reproduced music, Bose is not for you. There are other systems with sub/tops system that are much better. And most conventional speakers are better anyway. Cause the soundspectrum is far from good. There’s no low bass and there’s completely no punch in the bass. The highpass filter is chosen in a much too high frequency, so that you can hear where the lows are coming from. There’s also no high above 14 khz and the high mids are over pronounced, making it fatiguing to listen to at higher volume. Price Paid: 100

Listen to the new Acoustimass 5 Series III speaker system with your eyes closed. What you hear will sound like it's coming from much larger speakers. Yet when you open your eyes, you'll discover the spacious sound comes from two tiny Direct/Reflecting® cube speaker arrays and a hideaway Acoustimass Module. By incorporating new technologies, Bose® engineers were able to improve the sound of these Acoustimass speakers and make them sleeker and smaller. Proprietary Direct/Reflecting® speaker technology helps these speakers re-create a natural blend of reflected and direct sound. They deliver a sense of spaciousness that conventional speakers cannot match. Using patented Acoustimass speaker technology, the improved Acoustimass Module can be hidden anywhere and delivers deeper, fuller bass bringing life to your favorite music.

Well I am not here to bash Bose or the "Boseos" out there who think that Bose has engineered the greatest speakers ever manufactured. I have used the AM5 system for over 10 years and I have to say that I have been satisfied with my experience. I am more of a 2-channel enthusiast because of my fondness for music, and owning these speakers has been a pleasant experience. However, here are some things to consider before buying into the Bose mystique.

I bought them for $50 dollars at garage sale. The foam around the speaker was obviously ripped so i hot glued it worked for about 2 weeks. Today I opened them (dual 6 inch speakers) and I knew i had to buy the foam that solves the problem for them. I love them good bass & the two small speakers are loud. Do you think I made a good purchase? |

I PURCHASED THE ACOUSTIMASS 5 BACK IN 2003 IN LONDON AND I HAVE NEVER REGRETED. SOME ONE WAS COMPLAINING THAT SOUND ENGINEERS DONT LIKE IT. PLEASE LISTEN BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DONT KNOW. LET ME TELL YOU THIS STORY, WE WERE WACHING A MOVIE AND IN THE MOVIE IT WAS RAINING THIS FRIEND OF MINE WANTED TO GO HOME HE SAID BUT ITS STILL RAINING SO I DECIDE TO TURN THE VOLUME DOWN AND YOU CANT BELIEVE IT IT WASNT RAINING, IT WAS THE SOUND EFFECT FROM THESE SMALL THINGS. FORGET ABOUT SO CALLED SPECIALIST, WE ARE ORDINARY PEOPLE WHO LOVE NICE AND GOOD SOUND. |

I bought a set of AM5's a few years ago brand new for €400 from a local store that was closing down. They normally sold for €650. Theres no way I'd pay that for them, even €400 is pricey. The reason I bought them was for there versatile size, and they give a decent scale of sound.

Strength:
" Better Sales Through Advertising"
Weakness:
" No highs, No Lows, must be Bose." As an audio engineer and an avid speaker builder, they are definitely mass market, consumer speakers. The drivers on the satellites are roughly 25 cents worth, and the woofer, around $5.00. And you're paying how much? Most of that cost is advertising expenses.

Strength:
Small space requirements, pleasant sound, great spatial characteristics and a good bass line. Cubes look really cool on the Bose stands, and the 5 year warranty is pretty good. No placement problems here, the room is a small rectangle and plenty of reflective surfaces.
Weakness:
Inefficient, like most Bose products they take a little more juice to light up, a little mid bass weakness. Required stands for optimal placement. I still have doubts about the quality of the system as I have had one pair of speakers for over 20 years, but time will tell. Spatially great, nice personality and good response range. As an owner of a couple of pair of Klipsch Heresy's (II's and III's) I appreciate the pleasant (read non ear ringing) sound and the spatial qualities of these speakers. No they can't compete with the Heresy's(II's or III's) in terms of sheer acoustic output, but they have a nice clear sound that makes movie watching more than just a "sounds like the theater affair". More of a light and airy sound, not as easy to localize a voice to" left midrange horn".
Customer Service Excellent, Bose has a great guarantee, and since I live about 10 miles east of the factory, they said that if I were dissatisfied with the purchase they would send over a Fed-Ex person to help me box them up and ship them back. As far as warranty service goes, my mom has had one of their table radios for years, it has never required service. Similar Products Used: Klipsch Heresy III's
