Strength:

Clear sound with great mids & hi's

Weakness:

Blew a woofer with a yamaha RV-496, lol but it was a manufactures default

Great sound, but abit expencive for a lower end of Energy, have the XL-S8 sub, great when listening at low to medium levels & watching movies. I also noticed port noise when watching movies at a higher volume level. So i decides to hook up my Phase Linear 400 power amp (200w/pch)instead to the sub out of the receiver which has a 90 Hz low pass filter, with an eq to get lower bass. I also have 2 15" Celestion PCEL woofers & now have plenty of bass, more than enough..

This is what i have for system.

- Receiver: Yamaha RX-V-496 (70w/pch)
- Power Amp: Phase Linear 400 (200w/pch)
- DVD Player: Yamaha DVD-S510
- EQ: Roland Boss GE 215 (I use only the 25hz & the 40hz with the power amp, lowered the rest of the slides all the way down)
Woofers: Celestion 15" PCEL

Strength:

Great for HT, crisp highs

Weakness:

weak mid range, cannot handle below 90Hz, frequency hole when used with Denon 1801

This is my setup.

Denon 1801 reciever
Energy Take 5
Sony WM40 sub
Pioneer 434 DVD player

This system is perfect for my home theatre. It can't get any better than this. (More $$ might get you better of course, but only a little improvement). Plenty of power. Haven't gone beyond mid point of the vol. control yet. No need. Sound quality is simply amazing.

I have one warning tho. Low range if energy speakers is 90 Hz. Cross over of the Denon reciever is 80 Hz which cannot be adjusted. So, you will have a frequency hole with this setup from 80-90 Hz. Go for another receiver like Onkyo. Music from CD's are not that bad. A little weaker midrange. Still, I would give 5 stars. I would say most value for your money.

Strength:

Excellent highs and good mid-range, solid construction. Amazing for home theater!

Weakness:

If I had to complain about something, I would say the gloss finish on the speakers, a matte finish would be better.

These speakers are in a word, amazing. They are in a class of their own because of their price and quality. If your on a budget I would look no further then these speakers, they will blow you away.

Strength:

Cheap price, but very well build.....rich in sound too

Weakness:

appearence (seems a bit small)

Only one word can describe it......AWESOME~~~~
This is THE speaker for ppl who want to enjoy musics, or movies...If I was to buy a surround speaker package all over again, I would still select "take 5". It is quite economical too. (I bought mine @ A&B sound for 600 dollars CDN), I can't wait to try the higher ends of energy speaker.....

btw. CDN product is known for reliability.....that tells you about energy speakers....

Strength:

the whole package is excellent, well made, surprising bass response from the e:xsl 8 sub

Weakness:

i have no problem with anything....Don't worry the mids are fine..

I want to thank all the reviewers here that helped me make my final decision on the Energy take 5's....Of course like many before me..the first instinct was the bose package...but, thanks to the net and research...and the reviews of many disgruntled bose owners....I was steered in the right direction by this forum..So, sound unheard, I ordered them...Received the take 5's with the exls8 sub hooked them to my Sony SRDE845 receiver....well, it sounded amazing with both music and DVD DTS/5.1 home theater I would highly recomend these speakers to anyone...Believe the hype....They're excellent for their price..Thank You Everyone!

These things are great. I was limited to the size of speakers I could buy (I'm married). And for the size and price these speakers can't be beat. They sound alot larger than they realy are. Vocals sound very realistic, and they blend well with the sub. Although I did have to tune down the sub a bit (I opted for the ES-10).
If you are looking for a small HT speaker system, for the money (Take 5s, ES10, 2 pair of mega mounts, all shipped for $702) these can't be beat. (At least not yet)

Bought the Take5 w/ ES-8 sub about a year ago and am very satisfied. I paid $800 for the whole thing so the prices in the other reviews are good deals. I live in an apartment building and have never been able to fully blast these things to hear they're full potential. Sound is great and the center channel performs excellent. The sub is plenty for an average size room or probably bigger. Like the speakers, I have the bass volume set very modest and it still booms. All magazine reviews say this is great entry level system and I fully agree.

Had these babies for a few weeks now. Now that they are broken in, I did some serious listening in stereo and in surround. I had some problems placing my EXLs10 subwoofer but I think I got that resolved by placing them along a sidewall wall but away from the back. They need some room to breathe or else it can get boomy.
I am very impressed with this system. I have used them for music and they are clear, natural sounding. At first, they were a little bright but with the break-in they sound very neutral. I do wish I had a second sub but you can't beat this system in terms of size and bang for the buck. The sub emits very tight bass and rivals my more expensive audio only speakers for imaging and definition. I do recommend that you place the Take 2's on real stands (I use the matching HT1 stands). And I recommend setting the XLS10 sub's crossover around 100Hz. I tried the 80Hz setting recommended by my dealer but

I just recieved my Take 5 system with the XL-S8 subwoofer. I have a very small living room and have not had a chance to set it up proerly, since my newborn son is always sleeping when I have time to play. My system currently consists of the Yamaha RX-V793 receiver and CDC-656 CD changer. At this point, I'm very impressed with the quality of the sound. It definitely blows the Bose AM-5 out of the water. I'm glad I found this website!!
About the Mega-mounts...I also had a problem with the speakers sagging after about 5 minutes on the wall. I remedied this by cleaning the rubber ball with rubbing alcohol and then tightening the nut with channel locks. No droop yet after 3 days.

About ARM Innovations...I also ordered my system from them. I E-mailed first. Then I called called Tony back after he promptly E-mailed me with the phone number(which I don't have handy at the time). It was a Sunday, so I left a message. He called back within an hour! I had my package on Thursday. I definitely recommend these to anyone who has little space, but wants big sound!!

A month ago I purchased the Take 5 HT system and xl-s8 subwoofer from ARM. My object being to put together a "down & dirty" home theater system that wouldn't have to make excuses. What really enabled me to do this was Energy (and the fact that I got a Sony 32" for $500). The Take 5 with subwoofer can easily stand comparison with much more costly speaker systems. I am now in the process of going back and listening to some of my better recorded classical CD's in stereo (not DSP). The speakers and subwoofer are about 2' to 3' away from any walls. The first thing is clarity, the second is depth and soundstage, the third is timbre, and the fourth (and possibly most important) is musicality. I am an Energy believer, and this is after having spent much time listening to Quad (a friend's) and B&W (my own) speakers.
