Based on the many comments in this forum I decided to purchase the Take5 system. In a word, Outstanding. Especially when you consider the cost/quality factors. For the money, there is no better system available. Congratulations to the folks at Energy.

Strength:

Biggest bang for the buck!

Weakness:

In this price range there are none

I tested quite a few speakers/systems in the price range of $1K and nothing came close to these babies. I ordered the Take 5's and the eXL 8 sub from Marc at the Audioshop, who by the way is very knowledgable and has great service...got mine in 2 days. After installing and calibrating I couldn't believe my ears, especially when I slapped in Air Force One! When those F-15's were flying by I almost hit the ceiling! Very accurate, very crisp, yet very warm and the sub cranks! I have read some people not getting good results from these speaks, all I can say is try a new reciever or lower your expectations, because in this price range nothing touches the Take 5's. BTW, do yourself a favor and be sure to purchase a sub (if you don't already have one) when you buy these....it's almost necessary.

Overall, great sound and great bargain. Very nice sounding and looking speaks.

This board is fantastic. I've never seen such great reviews for a product.
I've been looking for a good surround set for a HT system for a few weeks now and just heard about these yesterday. Went to listen to them in the Good Guys today and they sound incredible. Called Marc at Audioshop and he can do them for around $600 (including shipping) - a bargain seeing as they're asking $800 in Good-Guys (not including tax).

Good Save the Internet and these kind folk in Canada...

Big speaker sound from small package.

You guys finally convinced me to upgrade to Take 5's. I have these mated with the Energy e:xls 10 sub, all being drive by a Sony STR-DB930 receiver. All I can say is WOW!
These speakers really are incredible. In my opinion you cannot beat these for the price. I paid just over $700 for the Take 5 system and the xls 10 sub.

Strength:

Imaging, price, great for home theater

Weakness:

Average for stereo listening

I picked up a set of Take 5 w/ ES-8 sub for $540 shipped about a year ago from Shop 4. Right out of the box, these things rocked. I hooked them up to my Technics SF-DX receiver/decoder package and Dolby Digital just blew me away. Imaging was excellent, with a very wide and tall soundstage. The bass from the little ES-8 sub was tight and deep for a sub of this size and price range. The longer I listened to them, the better they got. I recently went out and got a Denon AVR-1700 DD receiver. I am now in home theater heaven. I cannot recommend this package highly enough. Nothing in this price range comes close.

Strength:

Pint-sized package that packs a punch! Nothing else I can say that hasn't been said before. Great imaging. Large soundstage. Crystal clear highs.

Weakness:

Some may say it's bright. I like bright, esp for acoustic guitar music. But I'm not so sure that it's bright as much as it may be lacking a bit on the lower end. But really not all that noticeable. For the price, good enough.

I have a different definition of cheap, but compared to speakers of similar quality, they are indeed cheap. I got the e:XL-S10 to go with it. remember the scene in Back To The Future when Marty turns on that guitar amp, picks one note and gets slammed into the back wall? Yeah, well, that was my first thought when I tested it out on some movies. My neighbors thought that I pushed my refrigerator over (i have no idea why i would do that).
Also, if you buy them, get them from Marc Hallam at www.audioshop.on.ca. Very fair prices, fast delivery, incredible service. check out their reviews at www.audiosurvey.com.

Strength:

Great speakers for the price.

Weakness:

If you have a big room, get the 10" subwoofer.

Had my Energys for a year now and I still love them. If you buy the speakers make sure you get some speaker stands that let you position them at the proper hight/distance. I discovered a huge difference in sound when placed just right.

Strength:

Amazing sound from a small package, best speakers for the money

Weakness:

Weak bass -- be sure to get a sub too

Wow, the Take 5. What can I say that hasn't already been said time and time again in this forum. It's an amazing package for the money. I got my Take 5 system last Christmas, and I've been loving it ever since! I have found no real negatives with the speakers, with the exception of the fact that you really need a good subwoofer to go with them. I haven't been able to afford one yet, but I'm hoping to add thundering bass to my system soon. When I first bought the Take 5 and hooked it up, the reduction in bass from my old Baby Advent's was noticeable. After nearly a year using only the Take 5, I don't really notice it as much.

In review, GET THESE SPEAKERS! And get a sub too (if you can afford it!)
