Strength:

Very, clear realistic sound. Incredible sound. Size vs punch.

Weakness:

Hard to tune, but when properly tuned sound as good floor standing JBLs I had before.

I've owned these just over two weeks now - I opted for the E-S10 over the E-S8. I am very happy with this set up. Previously had JBLs all the way around. These blow those away - no comparisson. Wife is happy with unobtrusive size and fantatic sound. They took a while to tune, but with my wife's tender ears, I tuned them and could not see much loss of mid bass as many others experienced.

A definate thumbs up. Way better than the Bose I was considering.

Strength:

Small, powerful, great sound, wonderful bass even with 8" subwoofer. Bigger room may need 10" - maybe

Weakness:

None. Haven't heard any midrange weakness.

Excellent speakers. All the reviews here are dead on. Best to purchase online - save alot of money. Have it hooked up to Denon AVR-1601 with 8"subwoofer. Great sound!!

This are the best!!! The sound is clear and crisp. Armageddon on DVD, rocks!!! Not only are they great sounding, they are small in size, and the price is excellent. I had the Bose speakers. After putting in the Energy's, Bose sounded like crap. If you are thinking about buying Bose, DONT!!!! Go with Energy.

Strength:

Best in its price class; Very good for home theater

Weakness:

A little weak in the lower midranges for music;

I purchased my Take 5 set with the 8" sub about 6 months ago from AudioShop in Canada. I have been very pleased with the performance of this system, especially considering its size and price. I don't think there is anything that is better near this price point. This is my first experience with a powered sub and it seems to have plenty of power for the size of my room (18 x 16). If you want ear-shattering sound pressure levels, you will have to move up to some larger speakers, but I find that these can get loud enough for my tastes (and my wife!).

Strength:

Sound, size, and value. It's all pretty much been said over and over by the 100 or so reviews previous to mine.

I have a very small living room, so size was important to me. These sound great without overwhelming the room. I listen to about 80% dolby digital movies vs. 20% music, so some of the posted detractions concerning the ability of these speakers with music don't really bother me at all. I bought them at Harvey sound, so I ended up paying full retail, but even at that price, I'm quite satisfied.

Strength:

Great sound for speaker this size in this price range

Weakness:

Weak bass and midrange...as expected

For a 5.1 bookshelf package in this price range($500), these speakers can't be beat. Great for a budget hometheater system but the weak midrange makes it only "eh" for music. A tad bright as well.

Strength:

Convenient size, excellent sound, easy hookup

Weakness:

appearance (I agree about the gloss thing)

I wanted to add my enthusiastic support for this great product. I don't think anything comes close in quality when you're talking about the price range. I picked up the set of five, the 8" sub, and a great receiver (Denon's AVR1800) for under $1200US.

The only way to get a better set is to spend substantially more. And if you're concerned about size, you can't find a better product.

I tried out the Bose set, and it came up amazingly short when it came to playing mids from a music CD. The Take 5 set has no such problem. I listen to a rather eclectic mix of music (classic rock, alternative, rap, classical, etc.) and all sound great. And movies sound even better (much to my wife's chagrin...).

Additionally, this is a great set to have for those living in an apartment. They can fit just about anywhere.

Strength:

home theater, low price

Weakness:

lacking on music

Purchased the Take5 with ES-8 sub April of 98 for under $500. A great performer on home theater, somewhat lacking on music. Currently considering upgrading to Paradigm Reference
Studio 60's for fronts with matching center channel and either inwalls for surrounds or the Studio 20's.

The Take5 has served me well for my HT and will continue in my bedroom system. I find myself spending more time listening tomusic so an upgrade is in order.

Strength:

Good mid-range. Clear "highs", what you would expect from a descent sattelite

Weakness:

they are not free! ha ha

I never wrote a review before, but after trying to find a reasonable home theater system I realized how usefull they were so here goes... I have listened to a few quality systems in my time but i did not want to spend a million dollars on one for a home theater. I wanted something that was respectable and affordable. The Take 5 system is that and more. This system gives you the CLEAR highs that you want as well as a great mid-range that is all important for good voice imaging on dolby movies. I wanted to find the best quality at the lowest price and I did. There are alot of cheap systems out there, but life really is to short to listen to something sub standard. Spend a couple of more bucks and you will enjoy this system as much as i plan too.
