Strength:

pd. $649 out the door for the 5 speakers only, @ goodguys.com. such awesome sound out of these little sats! our psw350 subwoofer is on the way...

Weakness:

nope, nada, none!

well, just rec'd our rm6600's w/out the sub. goodguys had the 5 speakers for $649 out the door. the sub we want, (psw350) is priced for $349 but i'm getting it on ebay for $280. yes, i probably could've bought the speakers on ebay too but since this was our first home theater speakers, i wanted to make sure there was definitely a great return policy for our safety....but we aren't going to be exercising that return policy as these speakers do rock the house and more!

these speakers will bring you years of enjoyment and clear sound. we threw on the matrix dvd and when the helicopter crashed into the glass building near the end, our whole house jumped (along w/all of us watching it)...realism is key here and these do perform so nicely for their size. so don't wait, i too read the numerous reviews on this board which aided in our decision to buy these hot numbers and am very glad we did so! you will not regret it trust me and one more thing, do not use a different center speaker than the one that comes w/this package. the center speaker on this is matched perfectly to all the sats as we plugged in a cambridge soundworks centerstage center speaker and all we heard was the center speaker....it just made everything sound so lopsided. once we plugged in the original polk center, everything was peachy again! they all blend very nicely w/one another. you won't be sorry believe me! but buy from a source you can return back to just in case, but i don't think you're going to return these babies....they sound far better than you would imagine!!!

Strength:

Nice compact size, best construction of any satellites I ever did see. Awesome for Movies, crystal clear for music.

Weakness:

Well for any satellite class speakers these things rule with music, heck they kick but over most bookshelf speakers also. But of course you’ll never truly achieve full on “house party rockin” unless you go with full size towers.

Hmmmm. How should I put this. I got the best darn satellites that money can buy. I was intent on having Sat’s so I got sat’s. But now that I think about it, I sometimes wonder if I should of went with a tower speaker setup instead for fuller sound. But I digress, these speakers are the best in their class. They’ll belt out the power with out ever sounding tinny, they’ll sit quietly without the slightest hiss if you run power to them but no sound. They’ll breath life into the voices of your favorite actors or actresses and if you like music they’ll airdrop the band right into the middle of your living room. Get the DTS version of the Eagles “hell freezes over” and play the last track! You’ll love it.

My favorite part of these speakers has to be their construction I guess Polk uses some heavy duty stone like material to make the case of the center channel and the Sat’s. The beautly of it is, is that this makes them very durable and easy to take care of. But even better is that it keeps the sound from resonating from the back or the sides of the speakers and out to the front where it should go. This makes for great speaker seperation where you get the feeling of true positional sounds, and not to the degree of where it’s obscene as if your’re thinking to yourself. “Hey that little speaker sure sounds lonely over their by itself.” But more in the way of “Whoa!!! When the cannonball flew across the screen I thought it was going to take my head off!!” Yep clarity and sound separation those are my 2 favorite parts of these speakers. Well I hope this recommendation helps in your decision.

My setup:
Sony KV36XBR400
Harman Kardon DVD50
Onkyo 787
Polk RM6600 with PSW 350 sub

yeah I'm gonna give it 5 stars for overall rating, because if you've listened to Bose and thought to yourself that those sounded amazing... well you ain't heard nothin yet!

Strength:

Fantastic sound for the size of the speakers
Solid construction

Weakness:

Connectors on the Sub

First off, thanks to everyone that posted a review, it helped make the selection a little easier. We needed a small speaker system for our new theater surround sound because our room is fairly small. We had listened to the Bose and Energy, but the Polk RM6600's were far superior in sound. The PSW 350 that came with the system is great. Like other people that have posted, I was concerned about how to hook it up. First I tried using the sub out on the receiver with a dedicated cable even though Polk recommends against this. At the time we were rearranging our family room, so I thought I'd give Polk's recommendation a try. I hate to admit it, but I think Polk was right. The sound blends better with their recommended configuration. There's no hole in the lower bass frequencies. This could be because of our receiver. The small mains don't produce much bass, if any, below 150hz and our receiver crosses over at 100hz. This gave the sub a somewhat punchy feeling rather than a smooth blend when setting it's crossover at around 160hz. This system really gives us the movie theater experience in our own family room. Pass the popcorn.

Strength:

Sound clarity and definition. Amazing Value.

After auditioning 6 or 7 different brands in the same price range, I have to say nothing comes close to this systems performance. The sound clarity and the sound stage are just brilliant. Circuit city had them hooked up to a JVC receiver and I thought that sound was awesome but when I brought them home and hooked them up to my Denon, they just blew me away. Simply put the best 5-piece satellite system on the market for under $1000.

125w for each speaker

Weakness:

brackets. At least it came with some

After hearing these speakers for the first time, I was very impressed so I went ahead and got them. I took advantage of the free subwoofer and got the upgrade to the PSW350 for only $100. Just how much cheaper can it get. You get a $350 sub for only $100. For anyone who thinks the PSW250 hits, you should hear the 350. I have the volume set 1/2 way and it rocks. Whether I listen to rock, jazz, heavy metal, or oprah, these speakers with the 10" subwoofer is incredible. Not only the 5.1 channel stereo sounds great, the movies sound awesome. I keep watching toy story over and over and amaze myself to see such small speakers sound so perfect. I was thinking of bose, but I'm completely satisfied with my polks. So go get them!!!!!

Wall Mounts

After much research, I decided to buy these speakers because they were much cheaper then the Energy Encore setup. I like both systems but for the money, the Polk's were just as good and much cheaper. Be sure to take advantage of the $250 off. I was also looking at some high end speakers that were bigger then my living room. Yes, they sounded good but they also cost more then my car. The RM6600 are a good value for the money and provide more then enough power. In fact, I had my woofer close to my dvd player and when I crank my Yamaha 5240 to about half-way, the shake from the room was causing my DVD player to skip.

I also took advantage of the Sears price match for the Yamaha 5240. For under $1000, I was able to get the Yamaha 5240, and the Polk RM6600 with the 350 Sub--Not bad.

You don't have to spend 2K to get a good system.

I ordered the RM6600 from Lee Video. I was a bit scared about ordering through them but they did a good job. The boxes were pack very well. It took a long time to get to me because they are located in CA and I live in NJ.(over 10 days on UPS Ground) I got nervous and emailed polk to ask them if they were an authorized dealer and Polk told me that they were NOT and authorized dealer. I called Lee's Video and they told me that they are a part of buying group that is an authorized dealer.

The main reason why I ordered the RM6600 from Lee's was becasue they had it in stock. Everyone else is back-ordered. Crutchfield told me that it would be at least a month before they would be able to ship it and Circuit City did not know when they would get it in.

Take my advise, these speakers are great. You can't get a better speaker for the price. In fact, you can't get a better speaker for under $1000.

Strength:

Compact size, extraordinary sound, excellent deep base, clarity, price.

Weakness:

None found thus far (you must realize they are a small speaker and will never produce the sound of a speaker that takes up 1/4 of your living room.

After listening to many systems, reading tons of reviews, and looking at the price, I came to the conclusion that you can't beat this speaker package. Coupled with the PSW-350 subwoofer, the system produces great sound at all frequencies (unlike the over marketed Bose systems). Both my wife and I like them, I get the great sound for both music and movies and she gets a living room we can be present to guests without speakers everywhere. Our guests like the small profile but are blown away in amazement when I crank it up. We have listened to various types of music and movies and have been very satisfied with the results, dollar for dollar these are a great value. FYI-our first movies were Chicken Run and The Blues Brothers. Take advantage of the free Polk Audio subwoofer deal and buy before Jan 28th. I have been very satified with Crutchfield as well, great service and turn around time. I used Monster CRXPNW-navajo colored speaker wire to further hide the system and increase sound clarity. My system now includes a Sony DVP-S560D DVD player, the Yamaha HTR-5240 receiver and the Polk Speakers. For the price I payed to buy all of the components, I don't think you will find a better reviewed system.

Strength:

Amazing sound for such a small system. Fits into timber cabinet under TV, so can 'disappear'when not in use; major feature for the wife (she can't bear those ugly speakers)!

Weakness:

Uses a lot of speaker wire which is quite costly, and not included in package (however the Polk system which bypasses your receiver's low pass filter for the sub-woofer works so well, I can put up with the extra wire and cost for the huge extra sound quality).

Had my Bose Acoustimass 15 system not been delayed (supposed to arrive last Friday, and did not arrive till the Monday) I would never have taken the time to check out it's reviews on the web. When I did, I could not believe the enormous variation in comments. Never have I seen such intensity of passion over a set of speakers, for goodness sake! Boy, some people absolutely loved them, while others hated them passionately. And a resounding chorus of people were saying they were overpriced for what you got, and hey, you should try the Polk Audio RM-6600 system.

So, I got to this website and started reading the reviews, expecting similar controversy and disagreement, yet, no. With the exception of two, I think, everyone could not speak highly enough of them. Wow, what a rave.

Problem! I had already ordered the Bose, they were arriving on Monday and on Saturday night I was reading all this stuff. Dilemma! My hi-fi shop were really going to be dirty on me if I changed my mind. And as Polk were not a brand they kept in stock, if I wanted the system, it would have to be sight and sound unseen. In other words, tough luck if it wasn't any good. If I ordered it, I had to take it. So, folks, I had to either believe all your recommendations and hope for the best, or stick with the Bose which I had heard in the shop, and for my money, sounded really great.

So, I took the word of all you wonderful people and even paid the extortionate price of paying to freight the Bose back from whence they came. I was not disappointed!

This Friday, on time, the Polks arrived (heavy little sods, aren't they!). Unpacked them, set them up, and fitted them neatly into my wife's pride and joy, her blackwood TV stand (we have a Grundig 76cm widescreen). The PSW 350 sub which we ordered with it, unfortunately sits alone, conspicuously on the floor (need to do something there to avoid problems - perhaps a hidden trapdoor in the floor!).

Having read all the bits about Polks recommended hookup, I tried it, running speaker cables from my Yamaha RX692 amp to the sub inputs, then speaker cables from the sub outputs back to the front speakers. However, I got a very bad hum and it sounded bad. Emailing Polk service they were very prompt and helpful, however it was solved by my hi-fi shop, who advised I get rid of the earth pin on the sub power lead (actually removed it from a double adaptor instead to avoid warranty problems). Anyway, problem solved, hum gone!

Prior to finding this fix, I had tried the non-recommended way, by plugging my sub RCA cable from the sub outlet on the receiver, and into the LFE RCA plug on the sub. It worked fine, however the sub was loud and wooly sounding, and the other speakers sounded okay, but not brilliant. It was not until I fixed the hum problem, and hooked them up correctly (as per the Polk recommendation which utilises the low pass filter in the sub, rather than the one in the receiver)that I really noticed a difference.

And, what a difference. We hired Star Wars, the Phantom Menace, and I tell you, if you ever want to test your system, that is the one. You will never ever need to go back to a movie theatre after listening to this system! It honks. And the sub (connected this way) is totally seamless. Unlike before where you are conscious of the sub kicking in, this hookup makes the sub invisible and the whole thing is totally, absolutely like being in the latest, state of the art cinema.

So, dear reviewers, I have you to thank for steering me in the right direction. I am 150% satisfied with this system, and while frankly, had I not read your reviews, and bought the Bose, I am sure I would still have been happy. That is, until I eventually got to this site and started reading. Then, I would not have been happy!

PS: Also watched Eagles, Mariah Carey and Bee Gees on DVD Music and have to say - excellent. Yet to play a normal CD, but even if it sound dull after these, who cares!
