Strength:

-I can vaugely remember hearing music come out of these at one point, but normally it's just a bunch of noise. -They look nice -They're cheap

Weakness:

-No Treble -No Midbass -Poor speaker construction -Poor quality crossovers -Plastic enclosures -More proof that small cube speakers simply don't sound good.

First, this review is for ONLY the 5 main speakers in the SA-VE335 system. (Which I think are even better than these.) These speakers should never have left the factory. Their size, like most home theaters in a box, severly limits their ability to produce midbass, leaving a giant gap in any system's frequency response. However, one would think that such small speakers could produce treble well. This is actually not the case. They sound dead and muffled. You can try to squeeze treble out of them, but it just turns harsh. A tweeter could've gone a long way here. As it stands, they only manage to produce a very narrow band of frequencies. I wanted to see how these speakers are inside, so I took them apart. Inside, I found that some measures were taken to counteract the poor quality of the thin plastic enclosures, but they still sound awful. MDF enclosures would've been much better of course. The speakers are poorly assembled. The baskets on some of mine were so detached from the magnets that you could see the voice coil in between them. The crossovers are covered in foam, but they seem to be of very poor quality. These speakers look nice, but sound awful. I'd be willing to bet that all of Sony's small cube speakers are the same.

Some JBL cubes. Had tweeters, sounded a bit better.

Strength:

ideal for a bedroom or another small room.

Weakness:

Small 16cm(4&1/2") sub shared with all speakers.
Sattelites unsuitable...bass too weak.
speakers look boxy.
sattleites cant handle mid-low frequencies adiquately.

This is not a good product to be used as a home theatre system. The sound is terrible when watching movies because the essential lower male voice and similar are too low for the satellites to deliver well and too high for the sub to deliver at all. Sony intended the Sub to handle the 100-200hz frequencies by the sub but the ear can easily detect the direction from which it is coming. Furthermore, when watching movies, the bass from an explosion (which uses most of the frequencies where it is too low for the sat's and too high for the sub gets split in the middle, ending up sounding like a clock radio with a subwoofer attached. I didn't expect that Sony, a reputable company, could make such a mistake, however, this is a fairly old product, and one of their earliest satellite home theatre speaker systems.

A Kenwood 2 speaker system with nice 2-way speakers that deliver reasonable bass.

Strength:

Ideal for small listenin area... Great starter for HT....

Weakness:

Not enough BASS, Sounds a bit muddy

This speaker system is not really good for Home Theatre.. but casual listening makes it alright especially when played at low volume... They seem to play flawlessly.. But once crancked the sub gets distorted.. So therefore not enough bass gets outputted...
