Strength:

Great little compact Subwoofer with Bass Reflex design. It’s a front firing Subwoofer with two side firing low bass radiators/drivers that are digitally tuned to increase bass output by 20%. It utilizes a push pull design where the front firing subwoofer works with two side firing drivers to provide clear tight accurate bass response. It is driven by a class d high efficiency amplifier that provides low distortion and high output on demand . This is a very musical Subwoofer that can also provide some rumble in your home theater . It very compact available in a beautiful cherry wood finish or a sexy black lacquer . The cabinet is a one inch thick Veneer 12” x13x 12 walled cabinet . The built-in 240 watt dynamic peak amplifier is a very simple, clean design with panel contains all the connections, knobs and switches. From five-way binding posts for first left channel output, then RCA line in/line out plugs. Then comes the level output knob, followed by the adjustable crossover knob that ranges from 40hz to 180hz. The bottom section is reserved for the power cord, phase switch, power switch with auto sensor, and a 240/120 electrical switch. The legs on the Aperion s8 are flush pieces of the same veneered MDF as the Subwoofer cabinet used for the mounting of the provided brass spikes. Simplicity strikes again.

Weakness:

This is a great Subwoofer for music or home theater that will fill your room with effortless bass . But it won’t shake the foundation of your house.

It occupies space? I don't know, I can't think of any...

I recently replaced my stereo speakers with a pair of Paradigm Studio 20s v3. As an acoustic bass player myself, I gave them a try knowing that I'd eventually want a sub. I slowly researched subwoofers while thoroughly enjoying the Paradigms and their surprising bass response for such small speakers. I listened to quite a few in shops and found that many of them seemed to be designed to accompany home theatre and seemed to, to my ear, overemphasize extreme lows in stereo listening. I became somewhat disenchanted with the idea of a sub in that the only ones I heard which seemed to meet my criteria, didn't meet my budget (think higher end of the product lines from B&W and Martin Logan). After reading reviews here and elsewhere about the Aperion S8-APR, and in light of their liberal return policy, I decided to give it a try. I was initially unimpressed. I have a Nakamichi AV-500, which has no documentation for sub control and the sound was negligibly different with or without the sub. I then figured out how to up the sub output and the sub came to life. Then, over the next several weeks, I had to start backing the sub output down which I attribute to the breaking in period. Now, I love it. It blends seamlessly with the mains. It doesn't extend as deep as some others, but it is dead on, to my ear, in reproduction in jazz and classical music. Personally, I find the velvet bag, the white gloves, and the cult of customer service at Aperion to be a little over the top - I'd prefer to have gotten the sound meter, but based on others comments, I appear to be a demographic anomaly. Great speaker. I recommend it highly.

Customer Service

Despite my cult comment, I found them to be knowledgable, courteous, and helpful. They live for speakers and seemed to want to help me until I learned to live for them too. I actually appreciated that; I don't feel most companies take their products as seriously as customers do (at least this one).

Build quality, performance on both music and movies.

I was a little skeptical when I bought this unit but after it arrived in the beautiful velvet bag (neat touch) I thought hmm let's see what it can do. As others said it's grat with music but I purchased it for my home theater system. This little bugger delivers I had to make some adjustments to get it just right. Also the room I have it in has hardwood floors and the unit actually left the ground on some explosions in Blackhawk Down. I took a small wooden box and filled it with #8 lead shot and used some mastik to attach it to the sub and now it is perfect. I think it does as a good a job on movies as it does on music. Plus it is built like a tank, I like the fact that it has a removable power cord. Strength:

-Beautiful looking with pleanty of Power -Size foot cubed, <40 lbs. -Auto on responds quickly and even at low signals unlike yamaha's subs. -Great service, return policy, warranty

Weakness:

None that I can think of!

This is a beautiful little sub that is perfect for any apartment or small room. I have only had it for about a week in my dorm, but I have played it for hours and I love it. It packs a good punch for music and still sounds huge for movies. The bass is different from what I am used to. It has a punch to it, and although its loud it doesn't hurt your ears. Its only a cubic foot and has monsterous sound, I have the vol turned up halfway and set at around 95Hz. Perfect for my yamaha micro system. I bought it because it is so small, has such good reviews here, and if I didn't like it there is a 30 day satisfaction return and aperion pays shipping. Also, I got it A stock and its in perfect condition. Anyone on a budget wait to find one A stock and its 100 bucks less and still perfect. Great people at Aperion who give same service even for buying A stock.

This is a wonderful sub. I was impressed from the first....beautifully made, excellent sound. Then, suddenly, the woofers broke in, and OH MY GOD it kicks butt! I had a friend over to watch a movie, and he said 'my sub won't do that!' It is dynamic, and powerful, and unnoticeable until it is needed. I hate to have it behind my tv, because it LOOKS so good, but that is where it sounds best.

?? Can''t say I can think of any.

Just recieved it yesterday. As with all the other comments, a beautiful finish....looks better than most any other I''ve seen. I am still working on placement......but music is great (we heard bass notes never noticed before on Tab Benoit''s "Nice and Warm" cd. Movie wise, it did not shake the earth....yet. As I said, I need to properly place it. Still, a very nice bottom end I did not have before. There is no question this has to be one of the best values out there. I''ll be trying their other speakers before long.

Strength:

The sub fits into the space I require very easily. Very Strong bass, says it goes down to 32 hz. I believe it does. Sound better than many 10 inch subwoofers out there. Good for music enthusiats

Weakness:

Supposedly not a home theater sub as much as music. I prefer the tight sound bass as opposed to the ghetto boomy bass that many morons think sounds good. Do yourselves a favor and invest in some quality stuff

This sub mixes well with my boston acoustics system and as well as the home theater direct center channel speaker.

My System
27" Sony Wega Flat Screen
Home Theater Direct Level two Center channel
Mains: Boston Acoustics CR85
Surrounds: Boston Acoustics cr75
Subwoofer: Aperion Audio SW-8
If anybody has any ideas on a good center channel that has a depth of 8 or 9 inches that has a silk dome tweeter please let me know. Rolllin18@aol.com. I do not prefer the boston acoustics center channel. Needs to math the boston acoustics speakers. Thanksss

Very musical sub, great price, great service

I picked up the last two that Aperion (formerly Edge Audio) had and am very glad I called when I did. I got these on close out sale 299$ each with free shipping, cannot beat that. This seems like a very good company, called asked if it was still on sale and they put me on hold came back and said we have two left so I grabbed them.

They came a few days later very well packed with satin cloths over them. These are very well made subwoofers, the cabinets on these look very good. For looks alone you would think these would be around 700$ a piece.

Some might say two subs are overkill but it takes out the guess work in placement and you can never have enough good quality bass at your disposal.

These subs are not overly loud as in they won't make you think hmm that's a subwoofer, they are very smooth and blend in very well with your current speakers. I use these for music mainly as I honestly am not to worried about how a movie sounds I'm more concerned with music. From the other subs I have heard these were not as boomy and obtrusive while and the Aperions were by far the most musical subs I've ever heard. Like I said a very smooth bass with a nice punch when you need it, very detailed bass lines and distinct bass drum.

Sorry for the lack of tehcnical speak but I could not be happier with these, if you find any used grab them because this model at least is not being made anymore.

Strength:

bountifully tuneful. very quick and accurate. no smearing of upper mid bass, where transients are more audible (acoustic jazz bass)

Weakness:

use a y-adapter so both L and R inputs on sub are used. This will amplify the signal a bit (about 3 dB).

For $387. I'm hard pressed to find out how edge audio made such a high tech beautiful sounding sub for this price. It is one of THE most musical subs I have ever heard. When listening to acoustic music the sub is absolutely amazing- so crisp, and defined while maintaining depth and viscerality. If you have a small space and need a hometheater solution, and/or want the best sub under $400 for music, wow. Definitely worth it.
