Strength:
Nice tight sound.
Weakness:
no on/off switch. Ok. This was my first subwoofer so I don't know how it stacks up to other $145 subwoofers, but I assume very well. I have a small room and live in an apartment so I barely turn the volume up past 10 o-clock. It really does have some kick to it. A good examble of it's ability is the scene in indiana jones where the ball is rolling after him. It sounds like an actual rock rolling in my living room. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
looks sleek, thats about it.
Weakness:
Where's the bass? Well I bought this sub from Sound City mostly because of the high praise it's received from this forum. Good thing I listened to you all! After moving it around the room in search of decent sound, I gave up and stuck it into the corner. I thought maybe the cable was to blame, so I went down to Best Buy and purchased some Monster Subwoofer Cable. Got home, hooked it up, still no sign of any type of bass. After cursing at it for quite some time, I decided to take the speaker out to have a look at it. Good thing the speaker is rated for 50W and and the amp puts out a so called 75W. Luckily I still have my Sony 6-1/2in. 60W sub. That thing sounds louder and tighter than the Atlantic no matter where its placed. I'm now going to buy an 8 inch sub, Polk or Rockford, to replace the anemic Atlantic sub that is in there now. Hopefully that will fix the problem for now. I'm now pretty sure that all of you who gave this sub 4's or 5's have NEVER heard actual bass before. Similar Products Used: Sony 6 1/2 powered sub |

Strength:
low price, simple looks, performance
Weakness:
"pops" on/off when volume very low (due to auto on/off) For the money ($149), this subwoofer can not be beat! Similar Products Used: Boston Acoustics CR400 |

Strength:
small, good looking
Weakness:
none First sub I've owned, so I can't compare, but for such a small unit it sure puts out the base and its tight and accurate for cd's and tape and dvd. Got mine from sound city.com for $150 plus s&h. I cannot find anything locally that costs as little and sounds so big!! Coupled with two Definitive Technology ProMonitor 80 speakers (the sound coming out of these small units is amazing) I use as mains, I don't need anything larger. |

Strength:
Good Value
Weakness:
OEM woofer bottoms out easily A strong Value at $150 each from Soundcity.com. Bought two of them and found that the Original woofers bottomed out too easly (75 watt amp, but driver is stated as 50 watts rms on the back of the magnet piece). So I easly remided that with two rockford fosgate punch 8" subs that were on sale for $90 a pair at best buy, was skepitical at first but proved to be an excellent upgrade. Wow, I was amazed and enchanted by by this sub for almost two years...but suddenly I'm getting random noises.. a whistle and then a very loud POP or THUD when the speaker sits idle. It's pretty much useless now I'm afraid. Sounds like other people haven't had this same problem much though, so I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to someone else. |

Bought the entire Atlantic Tech 150 for my second family room. I bought it mail order without really auditioning them (big mistake) since it was for only a room that we hardly ever used. The 162PBM is probably one of the worst subs that I have ever heard. Maybe I am spoiled with the pair of Velodynes that I have in my home theater. The bass was very distorted. No matter where I placed this thing it was awful. I opened it up to see if the cone had separated. It seemed OK, but the sub looked very cheap. The only markings on it were 4 Ohms 50 Watts. I gave up and bought a Klipsch KSW-100. The difference is incredible. I got the KSW-100 for $220. The price that people are quoting sounds great. I am thinking that maybe I got a defective unit, because even for $50 the sub that I got is a waste. I have an Aiwa TS-W5 (sold mainly for their mini systems) on my computer which sounds better?????? I considered the Aiwa to be a bad sub, but it sounds better than the 162PBM. Too bad my warranty is up. It makes a good footrest though. |

I bought this sub in 1998 and used it as my main sub until early this year, when it started making loud pops at random times, even when in standby mode in the middle of the night! If you have this problem, like Travis below, contact Atlantic technology by e-mail and arrange a repair. They know about the problem and can fix it, but it will cost you the shipping, plus the parts, which I think only cost about $5 or so. They ended up replacing a couple of transistors, and putting little heat sinks on each one. |

Strength:
Very tight, accurate bass. Excellent production for such a small sub.
Weakness:
None. I added this unit to my home theatre consisting of a Yamaha RX-V590 receiver, Klipsch KSB 2.1 mains and a Klipsch SC.5 center. It is positioned in a small space inside my entertainment center. I could not believe the output for home theatre and stunning accuracy for music. I have a "good" ear for music, and this little guy gets the job done with ease. It is well worth the small price.
