I absolutely stumbled across two of these subwoofer back in 1999 and I bought both of them brand new for less than $200 bucks , because this audio repair shop had ordered them for a customer who change their mind because they was skepticle about the brand name. The shop was going out of business and the owner assured me that I would love these. Well ---he was right!!! I will never part with these, even if they fail, I'll get them fixed. Excellent performance! For those of you who own one of these ---just imagine what two of these sound like?? I have them setup where as one plays during movie play back , and the other play when a music CD is played.. Awsome!!!!! |

Strength:
At first i was skeptical about the paper woofer and the foam surrounds, but when i took a good look at the woofer, it is super rigid and it'll last, and about the foam surrounds(which would normal bother me, except the surrounds are pretty thick, density-wise, so they will last). As long as i treat it well it'll last a good 10 years, until i buy a replacement surround, or i buy a nicer sub. decent frequency response, not too boomy, 100 watts rms, looks nice feels nice, to sum it up, its just a great sub for those of us on somewhat of a budget. oh ya it matches my ar's
Weakness:
Foam surrounds, Speaker inputs. 5 way binding would be nice. or deeper spring connections. i had gold pin wire before. and it doesn't fit well in the connection. Auto on and off is a bit sluggish. there's no cover on the woofer, I prey nothing pokes the foam surrounds. Hi, Im 18 and this is my first review. I know I'm young, here goes. I've been into stereo for the past 4 years. I've been to countless stores just to listen to different speakers and I love finding a bargain. I got this on ubid for 75 bucks including shipping it was a steal. 100 watts rms a ten inch woofer, it gets the lows pretty well and it was well worth every penny spent. the sub is really heavy and it has a nice black wood finish. I think its partical board though. The paper woofer was treated and has a poly dust cap so it wont distort. This sub goes lower then my friends dad's missions, i dont know why, but i dont ask questions. Right now i have a pair of AR performance bookshelfs and this sub. I can see myself keepin the stereo for the rest of my life and being happy. thanks for reading. I hope this helped. Strength:
Good bass at a good price. Very good for music listening.
Weakness:
Distort on movies. Only because of very low frequency's. At 15 years old, I started to get into home stereos. My first receiver is JVC $200 50W x 5 / 70 x 2 Dolby Surround Sound. I bought a pair of Polk Audio RT3 shortly after I got the receiver. I figured I needed more bass but I didn't want to spend alot of cash. Since Not many 15 year old people have a ton of money to spend on *stuff*. So I went to Circuit City and bought the Audiosource SW8 8" 50W sub. It sounded good for my bedroom, but later on I wanted more. So since Circuit City has an exchange policy for 1 year of date of purchased, I bought the SW10. At $250, I thought it was a good price. It is an off brand, but the quality of bass is very nice. I plan on keeping this for a while after I buy my Denon AVR2800 and B&W 603s2. At 17 years old now, I can afford more *stuff*. After reading the reviews for the Audiosource SW15, I found the SW10 at OnSale.com and decided to give it a shot. For my first sub, I consider this an excellent deal. I paid $109 for it. For the price it is a steal (lists for $249). It is not nearly as powerful as I would like and only goes down to 35Hz. I have the xover set at 100Hz and the phase is set at 0. The auto on/off switch works great, but my personal preference is to keep it on. Considering this is only a 100 watt sub, I think it suits my needs for now. It can be a bit muffled with the bass but nothing which I consider a problem. It does make the house shake when I want it too! I have tried this out with several movies, such as Independence Day, Star Trek Insurrection, The Prince of Egypt, and serveral others. I have not had the chance to try it out with music. However, for home theater it is great. When I can I will be replacing this with a Paradigm 2200 subwoofer, but for now this will work. It is an excellent compliment to my existing system. 5 for the price, 4 for the sub. In this case I would give it a 4 overall. |

Strength:
Low price (paid $109 from egghead.com auction) Very good
Weakness:
No single (mono)subwoofer input must use splitter. This Subwoofer was a nice suprise! I had been using my brothers klipsch SW10 which is a great subwwofer and was impressed with it. I had no idea how much a subwoofer improves the Dolby Digital 5.1 experience when I play my DVD's. The DTS is even better! This Subwoofer really is a bargain for the money even though the klipsch has a lower range i could not affor the 350 price tag so I wnet with this sub and am thoroughly happy with it it rocks the house and sounds great! The Apoll 13 DTS version DVD I have comes Similar Products Used: Klipsch SW10 |

Strength:
Nice, clean appearance. Matches well with what I already have both cosmetically and audibly.
Weakness:
Name brand doesn't wow anybody, but I kinda like a "sleeper" anyway. Durability remains to be seen. Rarely do I buy something without trying it out first but the reviews of this unit were so high that I gave it a try. As a casual listener/enthusiast, This little number helped convert an already good sounding Polk audio 5 speaker set-up into a more well rounded home theater. Of course movies like Gladiator and The Matrix are pumped up to a level that is almost silly for home viewing, but what I am pleasantly surprised with is the improved range on music. While I was reluctant to break up an otherwise all-polk system, I'm glad I went with this sub. It sounds very good and is priced reasonably. If you are somewhat budget conscious as I am but want high end performance, try this one. Similar Products Used: Polk audio. Velodyne. |

Strength:
Very good value.
Weakness:
Poor sound from the line output jacks This subwoofer is an excellent value. They sound great when paired with my Rogers LS 3/5a's satellite speakers and would expect them to sound great with other satellite speakers because this subwoofer reproduces well in the its upper frequency range as well as the very low frequencies. The volume of the subwoofer was a good match for the Rogers, which don't play extremely loud (unlike the JBL PSW 112, which I had to turn the volume way down in the JBL sub). One feature of the Audiosource SW Ten which I wanted but does not work well was the RCA line out jacks. If you connect the subwoofer via the line input and outputs as recommended the manufacturer, the sound from the main speakers will be noticeably degraded compared to splitting the pre-amp signal and then connecting the pre-amp to amp and subwoofer. One other minor inconvenience was that the spiked feet mar hardwood floors. I had use rubber furniture leg protectors under the subwoofer. Overall however the subwoofer was excellent and I would recommend it over the JBL PSW 112 because the Audiosource SW Ten matches my Rogers LS 3/5a speakers in volume and frequency response (the subwoofer picks up where the Rogers leave off).
