Power, accuracy, SIZE!!
Weakness:
Price! (but in this case, there is no doubt you get what you are paying for!) Since the PV1000 was so small, I'd figured I'd need to put it close to the couch to get decent performance... I could not be more wrong. I ended up having to put it on the other side of the room BEHIND my theater system, and turn it down to "3" just to keep it from overpowering the rest of my system with it's stunning, effortless bass. Absolutely amazing! Similar Products Used: This is the first sub I've had... |

Strength:
Looks great, extremely well build and the build quality reflects the sound quality. Compact design is practical for smaller home theater settings
Weakness:
Instructions could help, spent several hours setting up system to preferences, adjusting dials and not really noticing a change. You want to keep using it!!! The best things come in little packages. This unit is able to compete with the big boys and win hands down. Was impressed in the demonstration room and even more impressed when used at home. Best results are when the unit has been run in (give it a few Arnie movies to truly wear the unit in) and then let the good times roll. Have found it's limits - home theater reference scene in LOTR - Fellowship of the ring, scene where the orks start coming for the fellowship. The beatings drums actually caused the subwoofer to overextend itself but the run of the mill action movies don't even create a sweat for this piece Similar Products Used: Boston Acoustics home theater reference speaker package |

Strength:
Plenty of Tight, Punchy bass to fill any room. Very low bass extension with plenty of power and volume.
Weakness:
none yet, except makes the wife mad when it's loud. What a beautiful sub. I have been researching different home theater speakers for the past year and have just recently purchased the PV1000 along with some Boston satellites. The Boston sub is so clean and powerfull, it amazes me every time i pop a cd or dvd in. Explosions in pearl harbor feel like they're in my living room. The low bass extension down to 22 hertz is also amazing shaking everything in my house even at low volumes. I expecially like the small footprint the PV1000 has along with it's large amplifier. Being a sealed enclosure for a bass reflex design allows it to produce tight, punchy bass that is soo smooth. I didn't even have to place it in a corner for good bass. The outside cherry finish is also beautiful. What a great design. I haven't had to use the supplied velcro feet yet. Strength:
Tight, perfectly clean punchy bass. Very musical & great for home theater effects. It beautiful in cherry wood with a small foot print. All the controls for the sub are in the front.
Weakness:
I don't think I will ever find one. This is hands down the best subwoofer I have ever owned. I have it matched with my VR-M90's and the bass is amazing. The PV1000 produces rich, detailed, punchy bass the seamlessly blends with the fronts and fills the room. The bass that comes out of this thing is amazing, it is so clean, no muddyness at all. In addition, it has got to be the most musical sub I have ever heard. Not that this is very important to me, but in the Cherry wood,it is absolutly beautiful. And the foot print is perfect for any room. Plus, I thought it was a great design idea to have all of the controls on the front of the sub. Similar Products Used: PV 800 |

Strength:
Seamless audio integration with my other speakers. Very nice looks. Compact, expertly manufactured.
Weakness:
None so far. My average setting is around 12 0'clock to 1 0'clock – higher than I expected and higher than previous subs I have experience of, but other than that, I have only praise. Excellent, rich enhancement of classical music. I listen to a lot of "early music" where orchestras/consorts can often sound wiry due to the use of original instruments. However, the PV1000 has added a fine bloom to all my discs, improving some beyond measure with fuller, more three-dimensional quality. I have only listened to a couple of movie soundtracks so far, but the effects sound excellent thus far via the PV1000. My main speakers are of very fine quality (Sonus Faber Grand Piano) yet they are very greatly helped by the Boston. This is no slight improvement – I could not be more delighted with the added realism that the PV100 brings to my music listening. I have previously used a Boston PV600. This comes nowhere close to the 1000 and I sold it a while ago because of its boomy quality. Buy the PV1000 with confidence. Need to correct the comments on 2 woofers. Its only one 10" the other is just some sort of device to radiate heat away. Well what do i know only had the sub for 3 days. still blowing the neighbours away. |

Strength:
Tight and most accurate base of the lot I have tried. Very small footprint. 2 woofers.
Weakness:
If not tacked down the sub will vibrate out of position When I first hooked up this beast I thought that I had done something wrong. There was hardly any base, and cranking it up to 11-12 still gave me no staisfaction. Then I continued reading the other sublines in the instruciton manuls to find out if I had set it right. It suggested I use the Y-cable connector, when using line level in. Did that still nothing. I was begginning to wonder If my ears had played tricks on me as i spent almost two hours at the store demoing every single sub there. None of the others came close. I was begginning to shut everything down and bring the sub back or at least have it checked. then came an important line of information in the manual. "Some amplifier has unusually quite output level" Hang on a minute.... Did my amp fall into this category? STarted digging out my Denons AVR1800''s manuals and found( you all should know abou the crappy dennon manuals) the volume setting for the SW vol, cranked it up to 8dbs, did a Pink noise test and wallah! Its alive! recalibrated the sound levels of all the speakers and I was in bussiness! DBOw, check your amp settings! Do not take this Sub back as you will not fine another in its class. I tried almost 6 subwoofers before i was convinced that this sub is excellent! and its footprint?! You will not find another that goes down to 20hz at that size! Next came the music demo. Kitara brings to mind? played it Those kitara base drums really kills subs. The Drums never made the sub rumble like thunder at all, I am not saying that there is no base, just that it give the low thump without the extra vibrations on the subs that i have owned, which made you wonder if a thunderstorm was building up outside. Not what a drum would sound like. Next went the Saving private ryan, I remember reading somewhere in alt.hometheatre.misc, that when the panzers or tigers start rolling in towards the bridge, you could feel the tanks moving. Well I did not feel that tanks moving at all, I thought they were actually in my living room!!! Again it was not thunder like sound type of rumbling, its like what it really is real life! I have been in the army and i have felt the vibrations when a tank moves by. Similar Products Used: PV400(owned this), PV600, PSB, KEf B30 Wharferdale, I used these to compare in like 2-3 hrs. b4 I decided on the pv1000 Although none were near the price of the pv1000 But hey I was looking for a sub |
