Strength:

Tight bass. Good amount of power.

Weakness:

I live in an apartment so I really have not been able to test the ability of this sub. But none so far.

Excellent bass. I can't believe the quality and sound that this sub produces. I am extremely happy with this sub over the Infinity sub that I previously had. Well worth the money.

Good value, crossover by-pass input, good sound

This is my first sub. I am very happy with it. I watch movies 70%, listen to music 30%. This sub is very good for both. A remote for the volume control would be an added convenience but at this price point I don't mind the exercise. For HT I usually leave the volume at the same setting, for music I adjust it more depending on the recording. I highly recommend this sub.

Strength:

Tight base for music. Low freq. reproduction for home theater. Contemporary and compact design.

Weakness:

None as yet.

Ditto to Don's review except I think this sub could easily handle a good size room rather than just small to medium.
Paid $459 which I consider a bargain. The rest of my speaker system consists of all Bostons as well.
VR950 main
VR10 center
Micro 90x surrounds

Over all, I can't figure how I could have done any better for the price.

Well worth a look if you are in the market for true performance and value.

Strength:

Deep powerful bass, matches well with my boston mains... Looks nice too

Weakness:

My room isn't big enough to stretch this sub's power to the max.

I purchased this high quality subwoofer recently, and after running all my favorite movies through it, I am thoroughly impressed with the power and quality this sub possesses. It feels like you are there when the horses are charging the field in Braveheart, and it sounds like I have a German tank in my room when I watch Saving Private Ryan (my cat also thought so and fled the room).

Of course that would probably be true no matter who I bought a subwoofer from, but judging by the rest of these reviews this is an awesome sub for its price range. I study all my purchases and this one looked like a good one from what people have been saying. I'm not an expert, but I can tell you that I love this subwoofer.

I got this sub to match with a system I am building of all boston speakers. Right now it is going with my CR8 mains, and I will add a boston center and surrounds as well.

In my small room, I keep its setting at about 3 out of 10 usually and it provides wood-rattling bass that can be heard across the house. Matches great with the CR8s.

My System so far:
TV: Sony WEGA KV36FV16
Receiver: Yamaha HTR-5240
DVD: Sony DVP-S360
Mains: Boston Acoustics CR8s
Subwoofer: Boston Acoustics PV600
Cables: Monster Speaker Cables, Bettercables Ultra Component Video

Strength:

Sound, compact size, lightweight, Front Volume knob

Weakness:

No separate off switch (only auto on/off), Wish it had the power on/off Red/green LED in front

This is a great subwoofer! If you prefer tight, accurate low end as opposed to flabby, boomy fuzz, this is the sub for you. It will shake the room. This shakes the floors. You can feel the vibration as well as hear it. Best of all it's very hard to pinpoint the source, it appears to come from all around.
There is nothing that can touch it in the $450-599 price range. The front volume know is such a nice feature. Depending on your audio source it makes quick adjustments so much easier than reaching behind the sub on your knees in the dark back there.
I am using this with an Onkyo 575x 5.1/DTS reciever, bypassing the subs crossover and letting the reciever send the LFE cutoff. The sound is great. It weighs in at a light 45lbs, has very compact dimensions and never distorts thanks to Boston's Bass trac amp technology. I did like the Klipsh KSW-10 because it had that front LED that is red when it's off and green when it's on. I liked that feature but the Klipsh sound was very poor. No comparison. I was worried that I may need the PV800 but this Boston PV600 has power to spare. I have it set only on 4.
My room is roughly 15x22 and it fills it to where you are ready to turn the volume of the movie down during big sequences. It's powerful, compact, has some nice features and best of all won't break the bank. Check around, you never see these on ebay, there is no discount prices online, but the sound made it worth walking into Tweeter and paying the price. Sure there are better out there but you will have to spend a few hundred more to get it. Yes, I wish it had that separate on/off switch. It has that auto on/off which works fine but I worry and will always wonder if it shuts itself off as it's supposed to. It does shut off after 15 minutes automatically but I'd prefer the option of shutting it down myself to be sure. That's my only gripe but the auto on/off is a standard feature on many brands so it's only a personal preference. Don't let this discourage you, this sounds too good to pass up. What are you waiting for, go get one!

Strength:

Stong performer

Weakness:

see review

I didnt believe that a > $500 subwoofer would put out good bass. I was shopping in the $700 - $1000 range, but when I found this little jewel I was floored.

Musically it blew away all other sub's I tested. (No brands - I dont want to get flamed) It is always accurate and detailed. It doesnt play the dwon to 20 hz but still is fantasitic for movies. A recent reviewer in S&V said that The Haunting would bottom out almost every 10" sub. I watch it at a high volume level and it never complained.

The sping loaded speaker terminals are cheap and the internal crossovers lowest setting is 75hz rather than 50hz.
But this doesnt matter when the receiver does the bass management and you connect to the line level LFE which bypasses the crossover.

This is a quality product. Give it a try if your in the market for a sub.

Strength:

Tight, musical bass. Excellent with classical music as well as home theater.

Weakness:

Sadly unavailable in cherry to match my main Boston speakers.

Easily outperforms my 3-year old Velodyne VA 806. The Boston is tight and realistic, with no sign of looseness of flab. A massive improvement to my system, comprising Sony 777ES receiver, Boston VR-M50s, Sony 7700 DVD and 80 ES CD player. I couldn't be more delighted with the sound and I feel extremely happy about this purchase. Highly recommended.

Excellent sound and quality for the price

This subwoofer provides excellent bass ranges from a 10inch. The PV800 was too overpowering in an 18'X14' room. The bass response is much more dynamic than the Mirage and more accurate than the Klipsch. It compliments the BA VR12 center very well and is amazing with 5.1 channel stero systems.

Try the Omaha beach scene in Saving Private Ryan for a real test or the opening scene in Replacement Killers.

Great quality for $459.

Strength:

Clean and Accurate Bass, Powerful Amp.,Matches great with my CR-8's

Weakness:

Great for a small to medium sized room but for any bigger go with the PV-800

I got this sub in mid-november and am still very impressed with it. The very conservatively rated 120 watt Amp moves the 10" driver with a great amount of control. The result is as clean and accurate bass as you are going to find from a sub under $500. It matches great with my BA CR-8's.

This sub is great for home theater but really shines with music because of it's super-tight bass response. I have yet to notice any slow down when I play very trying material (such as Metallica). I am a huge Pink Floyd fan and let me tell you that I did not know how much of the tight low end I was missing on an album like "Dark Side of the Moon" before I got the PV-600.

My previous sub (AR PS-112) can't hold a candle to the Boston. All it did was push out low freqs. with no definition what so ever. This is great sub and I think it's as good if not better than anything in it's $500 price class. If your looking for a sub do yourself a favor and check out the PV-600.
