Strength:

Really deep bass and price

Weakness:

Not sure of any at this point. may be a little boomy, but that may be due to room acoustics or lack of absorbing material in box

Very deep bass. Use of splitter for Sub is a must. This splits the single cable into two for the sub connection. This increases the volume. Also set up of receiver is important. Switching to small for front speakers increases the volume. Do not set gain on receiver over zero. 60 to 80 hz is good for crossover, depends on size of fronts. Pay careful attention to sub woofer cable as it is directional. This sub really rocks. I did not think i needed a sub as my front mains were awesome and played really great bass, but this sub showed those speakers to be limited. Position and set up are important.

Strength:

I''ve put it through a lot and have had zero problems.

Weakness:

Trying to conceal it. I guess maybe I could use it for an end table.

Well, here I am again. If you scroll down you can see my first review posted almost 2 years ago. I can''t believe it''s been that long. I still like this sub folks. After all this time it''s still going strong and sounds just as good as when I took it out of the box.

Strength:

The low rumble it produces! The shaking it gives your room! For the price, it is fantastic! Not cheap, but not expensive either. Of course, that is a college boys wallet talking. :)

Weakness:

Heavy, but to me that is a sign of good build and durability.

All I can say is wow! I was wowed in the store, and amazed when I hooked it up! I have a Sherwood RD-7106 receiver, and Cerwin Vega HT2500 surrounds. My computer is also hooked up to my receiver. I have the loudest and hardest hitting system in the dorms! This beast sounds great with music and movies! I originally got it for $260, but bought the service plan. I will always trust Cerwin Vega for bass! I always judge speaker performance by the looks I get from others. This sub opened people''s eyes and pissed some neighbors off!

Very Powerful, and durable.

This sub has worked really well for me for a couple years. This thing has been put through HELL, and it still sounds great! I don''t think anything else could take the abuse that it has been put through.(For this price)

Strength:

Simplicity, easy set up and rolloff control

Weakness:

So far, so good. I am using this primarily as a part of a home theater, supplemented on the front by 2- Bose 301s and a Bose 10 center speaker. Running this with a Technics SA-DX1050 A/V receiver; and I have as good as what I''ve heard in built-in theaters at high-end home shows.

Strength:

Great sound, build quality.

Weakness:

None as of yet.

Still looking for the right place in my house for this sub, but I am very happy with it. There maybe better but this is a great compromise for overall quality and price.

Strength:

Really LOUD bass.

Weakness:

Controls on the rear.

I've only had this sub for a week, so obviously everything is just fine. I bought this as a replacement for a JBL PSW-D110, which blew up twice in a year and a half. I did al ot of research on subwoofers in this price range. Reviews on this website were all good (not just the less-than-one-month ones). Also, compared to other powered subwoofers in this price range, it is the ONLY one that I could find that had more than a one year warranty on the amplifier. (The LW12 has a two-year warranty.) This was important to me after having my old JBL blow up for the second time after the one-year warranty had expired. All subwoofers seem to have 5 years on the speaker, but very few offer more than a year on the amplifier. Anyway, the sound is GREAT. Really loud. Obviously louder than the JBL, since it's 12-inch, and the JBL was 10 inches. The cabinet is quite large. so I had to move it from beneath an end table to in a corner behind my left front speaker. This made the bass even louder, so I have to keep the volume control about halfway, otherwise cabinet doors, windows and other things in the house start to rattle and buzz. I have it connected to the LFE output on my Onkyo receiver, so I really can't comment on the effectiveness of the filter. The least convenient thing about this subwoofer is that all the controls are in the back, including a power LED. What's the point of having a power indicator on the BACK? A handy feature is that there is a 3-way ON/OFF/AUTO power switch. All-in-all, a great buy for the money, so far.

Strength:

Big Boom, rumbles nicely and has enough power to make you really feel the sound

Weakness:

Big box

I've had this sub for about 3 weeks now. I'm very impressed. It enhances all sound and goes nicely with my Wharfedale speakers. I heard Cerwin Vega was good, but didn't think it would be this good. The bass is just right and can pound your chest with each bullet fired while watching The Matrix. I was using this sub while watching Saving Private Ryan. When a mortar landed, the sub managed to shake some large objects off my shelves. Best sub out of all the ones I've heard. This is definately a good buy.

Strength:

Great sound; very fair price.

Weakness:

Haven't found any.

After considerable research, I decided to look locally before buying over the Web and looked at various models. You really can't tell much in a store, where they have a system hooked up that may not even come close to the particular dynamics of your own listening environment and equipment.

So, based on various factors I bought a Polk Audio PSW450 open box $249 special at Circuit City and was very disappointed once I got it home and started playing with it. When the speaker worked it sounded okay to my un-subwoofer savvy ear - however, the amp kept turning off and on when I increased the input a little. I'm not talking about overloading the thing, just increasing the input to the point where you could feel some rumble.

Took it back and found a Cerwin Vega LW-12 floor model at REX for the same price and am amazed at the difference in sound quality. This thing really puts out a tight low frequency sound that complements my home audio system perfectly. Better than the Polk? You bet. Better than all the others? I couldn't tell you.
