Bought the pf 1500 not the tl new in 1996 and never had an issue with it. Set it up right and it can sound pretty good. Easy to make it sound muddy if you set it up wrong. I would spend about an hour setting the phase and crossover just were I want it. I still use it every day. I have a new amp and woofer waiting in case it does fail. There are lots of Def tech haters for some reason but every thing I have ever bought from them has been great. After almost 20 years this sub will rattle the house with movies...made my wife jump the first time an explosion hit on the sub...she said why didn't you warn me...lol.

Strength:

- a respectable sub in sound/build quality, and overall value.

-hits the low notes with authoritahh

-auto on/off

-has rca out as well

-full phase adjustment. (not just normal/180 deg)

-dissapears into your room at lower volume settings

Weakness:

-broke 2 of the grill posts off in the first month. (only 2 holding the grill on now)

-slightly boomy

-big in size. theres no hiding this one under your couch. I put a glass top on it and turned it into a end table.

I bought this sub (definitive pf15tl) from a stereo buff friend of mine a few years ago and have been pretty happy with its performance ever since. It has a well built/damped cabinet and a sufficient amplifier to power its hulking 15" driver.
The sub absolutely rocks with any kind of music or movie soundtrack you can throw at it.
Some will find it boomy especially when turned up approaching half volume or more which is simply overkill. I like bass more than most people and have a hard time turning it past one third anymore.
I feel it is more of a home theatre sub than a musical one since hearing a jl fathom f113 last year. this sub isnt nearly as effortlessly detailed or articulate as the jl sub costing something like 4 or 5 thousand. price wise a rather unfair comparison I suppose. That being said the definitive is still a very respectable sub in its price range and all around good value and perfomer.
It will be rockin away in my system untill I can find a jl fathom or a james emb for a good deal. maybe a REL t series or velodyne dd?
anyways this sub is far from being the weak link in my stereo/home theatre setup and will eventually be replaced with a sub 2 or 3 times its cost some time in the distant future.

Strength:

Great sound Great cs

Weakness:

Over heating maybe not that durable

Had it for about a year good sound but problems over heating and had to have amp replaced and woofer replaced. Deftechs cs is top notch though so buy with confidence. I only had problems when pushing it not at actual listining levels.

The Power-Field 1500 Subwoofer with its 325watt Power amp, offers enough power and tight bass for both movies and music. One of these is sufficient for power, I use two so I can offset standing waves and room modes.great value for under $1000

Strength:

Extreme bass --> Can get very loud in most size rooms, very low bass (yes it can go to 18hz, i tested it), incredible for theater

Weakness:

Grill sucks...broke in a week

This sub is perfect for anyone who wants the bass to sound similar to commercial theaters (well, it wouldn't fill that size room...but your living room is plenty). It does play down to 18 hz although some people don't believe it. I used a calibration CD that plays notes down to 10 hz (in 1 hz increments) from 40. It played down to 16 hz, but it was barely noticable. 18 hz was definetely quiter than even 20 hz, but it still played loud enough to hear.
Music wise, the sub is slightly boomy... It doesn't have the articulation of say the MII Sunfire subs, but it definetely sound very good for music.
In short, I HIGHLY recommend this sub to anyone who wants or needs a loud great sounding sub. It is comparable to four figure subs, at a decent price. And it was definetely better than i thought it would be. : )

I have just put a down payment on a PF1500TL that I plan to bring home in a few weeks. I have been listening to subwoofers for about 6 months trying to find one that would add that low bass for mainly home theater and some music. Let me say that until I listened to the PF1500TL I did not know what bass was. It totally blew off the Velodyne VA-1210 that I listened to. The Velodyne could not keep up with the PF1500TL at full power when the PF1500TL was only at 1/3 power. I was very impressed with this subwoofer and would recommend to anyone to take the time and listen to one.

I brought my PF15TL home two days ago and cannot be happier with the impact it has had on my entire system, music and movies.I went through a lengthy search process for the right sub and knew I was on to something good when two Hi-Fi shops admitted they had nothing that could perform with the PF15TL for anywhere near the money. One finally advised me to stop the search and buy the Powerfield.

This is my first sub and bought it primarily for movie special affects. My great surprise is the effect it has had on my music listening experience. My MB Quart 3s (2.5 way towers) sound much better when they are not asked to reach into the lower frequencies. My PF15TL takes me down to 15hz.

I would reccomend this unit to anyone and they are currently being discounted by the Definitive technology dealers.

I USE MY 1500 PRIMARILY FOR HOME THEATER WITH SOME MUSIC APPLICATIONS. IT IS PRETTY AWESOME. IF YOU WANT THE FULL EFFECT, HOOK IT UP TO A 5.1 SYSTEM WITH THE LFE CHANNEL. I HAVE A VERY LARGE ROOM WITH VAULTED CEILINGS AND THIS SUB FILLS IT. I USED THE STEREO REVIEW TEST DISC ON IT. THE TEST WARBLES SHOOK THE WINDOWS. I ALSO HAD TO CHANGE OUT THE SPRING STYLE DOOR STOP ON OUR FRONT DOOR DUE TO THE VIBRATION SOUNDS CAUSED BY THE SUB.I HAVE IT HOOKED UP TO A YAMAHA 795, BOSTON ACOUSTIC T830'S, BOSTON VR10 CENTER, BOSTON IN-WALL'S IN THE REAR, PANASONIC A120 DVD PLAYER. PERFECT FIT. MY NEXT PURCHASE WILL BE A PAIR OF BP6'S. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
