Strength:

Delivers very deep and strong bass. Great value, even at full price. Pretty compact enclosure.

Weakness:

Takes a little work to get it to sound good with music

I bought this to compliment my Definitive Technology BP6B's for movies and to take a little load off of my Onkyo 575TX receiver.

I love the sub with movies and am literally blown away with home much clean and tight bass it puts out. It has revealed parts of the movie soundtrack that I did not know existed, even though my main speakers do an admirable job alone.

I had to play with placement and settings to get it to blend with music. Thankfully my receiver has a level control for the sub, because the same level for movies used on music is overkill and a little "boomy". Drop it down 3db and all it well.

Strength:

PRICE IS GREAT, BEST SUB FOR THE DOLLAR

Weakness:

CANT THINK OF ANY

I BOUGHT THIS USED BECAUSE YOU CANT FIND THEM NEW ANYMORE. I GUY THAT I WORK WITH HAS ONE OF THESE AND I THOUGHT IT SOUNDED GREAT, BUT WHEN I WENT TO BY LOCAL DEFINITIVE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DONT MAKE THESE ANYMORE AND THAT THEY REPLACED IT WITH THE PROSUB 200. I LISTENED TO THE PROSUB AND DIDNT THINK IT SOUNDED AS GOOD AS WHAT I REMEMBERED THE PF-12TL SOUNDING LIKE. I FINALLY FOUND A DEALER THAT HAD ONE THAT WAS A TRADE IN AND ASKED HIM TO LET ME COMPARE THE PROSUB 200 TO THE POWERFIELD 12TL. BIG DIFFERENCE: THE PROSUB 200 SOUNDED GOOD, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE POWERFIELD 12TL. THE POWERFIELD MODEL HAD A MUCH BETTER RANGE AND WASNT AS ONE-NOTED AS THE PROSUB. I THINK DEF. TECH. CUT SOME CORNERS WITH THEIR NEWER SUBS IN CONSTRUCTION AND DRIVERS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE AMPS WERE DIFFERENT AND THAT THE PROSUB USES A HIGHER WATTAGE AMP BUT IT WAS A POORER QUALITY ONE. I ACTUALLY BOUGHT THIS USED ONE FOR A $100 MORE THAN I COULD HAVE BOUGHT THE NEW PROSUB 200 FOR, BUT IT IS WORTH IT AND PEOPLE MUST KNOW THIS OR ELSE THE DEALER WOULDNT HAVE HAD IT PRICED THIS WAY. THOSE WHO DIDNT LIKE THE SUB AS MUCH AS I MIGHT NOT HAVE IS SET UP CORRECTLY. IF YOU CAN FIND ONE OF THESE USED, IT'S A GOOD DEAL BECAUSE PEOPLE SEEM NOT TO BE SELLING THEM AS MUCH AS SOME OF THE OTHER DEF'S.

This is one great sub I got it for $349.00. It had good bas on Music and on movies. I have only had it for 5 days but am extremely pleased with it so far. I still need to do some final testing. But for the money it is one of the best you can get.

I recently decided to upgrade my sub. Owning a pair of DT BP8's, I thought it natural to try out the PF12. Let me tell you that it is great with movies. Plenty of bang, and it will reach lower than I expected. But music is another thing. No matter what I did, where I located it, or how I adjusted it, I could NOT get it to sound good on music. It is just too boomy and not nearly as tight as I want a sub to be. After 2 days I took it back to my audio dealer and took home an M&K V-125. The difference was night and day. MUCH tighter and more musical than the DT, and just as good on movies. Sure, it did cost about $200 more, but the difference was well worth it. Why save 2 bones and have to suffer? Before you buy the SF12, do yourself a favor and try out some other subs. Unless you just watch laser disks all of the time and never listen to music, you can do much better than the SF12.

I bought the PowerField 15 which is a 200 watt sub. It sounds great. It was a steal at only $450.

I was in the market for a subwoofer recently and did quite a bit of comparison between many different brands. I needed to keep the budget low... approximately $500 or so. I ended up deciding on a Definitive Technology PowerField 12 subwoofer. This subwoofer had the tightest, cleanest bass at that price. Thanks to its compact dimensions (17"x17"x14") and transmission-line tuning, the subwoofer "fits" in to my listening room both aesthetically and sonically. The PF12's transient response is amazing. The frequency response extends to below 18Hz and the sub is powered by a 125 watt high current amplifier built-in. I paid a little over $490 for this subwoofer and every cent was worth it. The subwoofer excels in both music and home theater applications. I use it to do double duty with my Pinnacle AC650's and am absolutely amazed each and every time I listen to my system. Give them a shot... you'll be surprised!

This is a fine piece of equipment! Excellent for movies (during some passages from Stargate-DVD I thought that it will destroy my windows) and decent for music. Matches very well the DT BP6B and since is a small sub. fits very well in a small living (like mine). It was a great bargain at $450!

I have only listened to the 15 inch version...but I guess the same sound goes for this version too. It interfered too much with the music.
