Strength:

Very clean, very tight. You almost don't know its there because it blends in so well with the music.

Weakness:

None so far.

I'm currently running a pair of PSB 800i speakers, and they have excellent bass. I recently purchased the DT 100TL and hooked it up. When I first turned it on, I didn't notice any changes. I then adjusted the crossover and all of a sudden, the bass notes started to take form. After playing several songs, I was not impressed; until I realized, the bass was there, but clean and tight. Nothing boomy or undefined. It was there, running deep and clear, following the music with ease. It was then that I realized this was an exceptional piece of equipment that completely enhanced my current speaker system....

Strength:

Plays deeper than slightly older but comparably priced Boston CR-4 sub. Wonderfully articulate for music, and nothing lacking for movies in 300 square foot space.

Weakness:

I was hoping it would be heavier. It is surprisingly light, but this doesn't imply anything about its performance.

Since the mid-nineties, I have used a Boston Accoustics CR-4 sub (8" diaphram, 75 watt amp, front firing), which came highly recommended by a trusted salesman. It has served me well for ten years, and I have no complaints. The decision to replace it came slowly due to its solid musicality. I play music 90% of the time with only the occasional movie, and I did not want to replace my beloved CR-4 with a powerhouse sub that is less articulate. I made the decision to seek out a deeper reaching sub only because of the increasing prevalence in my library of 96/24 recordings that seem able to reach into the 20-30Hz range. My Boston sub was rated down to only 35Hz and seemed to bottom out slightly on certain recordings, although it was very articulate and could still produce an attenuated response into the deepest regions. The ProSub 100TL is rated down to 19Hz. No + or - Db range is ever mentioned, so who knows what that really means, but it definitely out performs the Boston sub, hands down. I've thrown everything I have at it, and it never labors. It reproduces the bottom octave on a grand piano gracefully, and the bass strings of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra come through alive and well with lots of harmonic detail. In my 300 sq. foot listening area, it gives an impression of spaciousness, effortlessness, and profundity. I'm not sure I could recommend it for a much larger space, but in my apartment it has proven to be more than enough.

Strength:

Alot Of Bass Very Good For Music Alot Of Power

Weakness:

None, as far as I don't think it will give you enough bass for home theater and movies, but music is excellent

I must say that this little subwoofer does shake my bedroom. This 10 inch is excellent for music, but for home theater I would recommend the 12 inch and 15 inch, or any Supercube subwoofer from Definitive Technology. My music has changed dramatically with adding this subwoofer. I couldn't be more happier with my music, the only thing that will change my music even more is the Denon PMA 2000R Integrated Amp. Now that I have given this sub some break in time, it has become awesome. In Music it's amazing, it really does go to 19Hz Now it's perfect with my B&W Speakers. Also the Cambridge Azur 540 helped the most, and this sub will be even better atfer I get my Audioquest cable for it.

Strength:

Extremely powerful for its price! Deep and tight bass.

Weakness:

No IEC socket. Cheapo power cord.

This sub trashes my Paradigm PDR-10 flat out. It goes deeper and produces far more power. Its also pretty tight. Great for both movies and music. At 1/2 volume, the Paradigm is already giving up with the power LED diming when there a lot of bass. No problems with the Definitive. Only thing I hate is the power cord used. Definitive could have just include an IEC socket thus we could use some audiophile grade cords (don't see how much cost would a socket add over a chord). I am not giving this sub a full 5 star rating solely due to its power cord.

Strength:

power, depth, small size, sounds better than many more expensive subwoofers.

Weakness:

doesn't have a 0-180 phase switch.

Recently I bought a denon 3802 and some small klipsch speakers and a middle channel speaker for surround sound to go with my old klipsch kg 5.5 monsters.I wasn't even going to get a subwoofer because the klipsch would go down below 35 hz. and sounded very powerful. Movie sound tracks were very good but on some of the more dynamic movies I found that there was a missing part after watching the same movies on other setups. My first attempt at a subwoofer was an infinity entra two with a twelve inch woofer and 250 watts of power. It barely kept up with my klipsch floor standing speakers. It sounded very nice and smooth for music but didn't even come close for HT. Even with two channel music it had to be turned way up to make any impact at all. Very dissapointing. I took the infinity back and paid a few dollars more for the pro sub 100. It was amazing to me that a smaller 10 inch subwoofer could make a 12 inch subwoofer that was rated at the same power sound puny and very weak by comparison. This subwoofer effortlessly keeps with my big efficient klipsch main speakers with the sound level turned up only a fourth of max. I now know what all the fuss is about with surround sound and spectacular bass effects in sound tracks in movies. This is a really good sub. It goes unbelievably deep, is as loud if you want it to be, and is very smooth. I am very picky about audio equipment but I am very impressed with this speaker.

Strength:

Great sound when it is working

Weakness:

Problem with keeping red light in rear of ProSub100 on.

Brand new, my DT ProSub 100 was great. I am now having problems with trying to keep the red light on the back of the unit in the on position. After about 1 hour of viewing, the red light goes out. I am using a Y splitter and have output RCA plugged into subwoofer socket in my Yamaha receiver. To turn on red light I need to disconnect the RCA's and/or the electrical plug and reconnect to get the red light/ProSub 100 working again. Need advice on how to solve keeping the red light on.

Strength:

Amplitude and freq response outstanding across the board. Put it in a corner and don't worry about experimenting with placement. Delocalization is excellent. HTS performance is 24K.

Weakness:

Auto on can be flakey. To cure this, split the the input though a wye to both the LFE input and either L/R input. Driver sounds a little slow with music at very high volumes.

Dollar for dollar one of the best subs available today. As noted by others there is a brief break-in period with this model. The cone definitely needs to be excercised for a while to flatten out the response and get rid of the boom. I have a 15x18 living room and the ProSub still fills the room at less than 50% gain. With the sub crossover at 100 Hz and my HK LFE output rolled off at 80 Hz I get a smooth, seamless transition with my AR11 mains.

Strength:

Amplifier capability, tightness once some dampening materiel is stuffed in the bass port.

Weakness:

Before stuffing the port the sub can be boomy depending on room placement and accoustics.

I have posted a review to this sub earlier and had something to amend. Because this sub is ported, it can get a little boomy which might sound good for bass-defficient satelites or bookshelves like my B&W DM303's. I recently got the DM 602 s2's which can hold their own extremely well in the midbass area. In order to get rid of the boominess in the sub, simply stuff a rag or small towell into the bass port on the back. It's not noticable if done correctly and the sound really cleans up! The sub's attenuation of midbass goes down and the overall output is much more even. Sounds like a much more expensive subwoofer. You will need to up the volume on the sub to achieve same SPL's, however, the amplifier seems to have no trouble with this. I have never been able to make this sub sound nasty.

Strength:

hits hard, very quick response for a ported sub, hots very low frequencies. looks good, sounds great.

Weakness:

none.

I work for soundtrack as a delivery guy, and a good portion of my job is to set up people''s home theatre equipment that they just bought; i am therefore able to hear a lot of different equipment. i was originally going to go with the bob carver sunfire junior, which is an excellent sub; however after listening to the deftech PS100TL in other people''s houses, and a lot of persuasion from the salesmen to get the PS100TL, i figured i would save some money and go with this. from my experiences, this is one of the better subs i have heard. i''ve listened to the sunfire junior, klipsch (horrible), and boston subs. the funny thing is, i cannot stand the deftech PF15TL compared to the PS100, and i have done many installments with the 15, and none of which i liked much. the PS100 however, is perfect (as far as my ears can tell). i listen to music probably 90% of the time on my system, and this sub sounds flawless. for a 10" sub, this thing hits hard! it also hits low. the best position that i have found works well is right in front by the TV. as other people have said, most subs sound best in corners, this does not. i have the sub crossed over at 80 Hz, and the volume is only a third of the way up. this sub diffuses the sound very well, it is impossible to try to locate the sub with your ears, even though it is facing right at you. i have the cable plugged into LFE so i can get the .1 on the dolby digital or dts 5.1 soundtracks. if you use the y-adapter and split it up into the left and right channel, you lose the ablility to get those descrete frequencies from dolby digital or dts. my system: Denon 4802 A/V Receiver Boston VR-M90 Mains Boston VR-MC Center Boston VR-MX (2) Surround Boston VR-MX (2) Rear Surround PS100TL Sub Monster HTS3600 Power center All Monster Z-Series cables and interconnects

Weakness:

auto turn-on amp a bit slow to respond

Well, *maybe* there is a mass conspiracy by DT and the press along with 99% of the people who have heard the ProSub, to give it glowing reviews... Or *maybe* Jim just is wrong? Which do you believe?

From my own experience with the ProSub, the latter holds true. The ProSub is the best sub in the under $450 price class, and one of the few in that class I would consider buying.
