the ELS sub is the most musical sub i've heard at the price competing with the James emb 10 rather well. got a great deal on it and I couln't be happier. If anyone is looking for 2 channel audiophile level bass this is the bit deal out there.

The build quality of this sub is very high .The enclosure is clad with vynil effect cherry wood to an extremely high standard. The finished product looks very expensive and wighs about 20 kilos.All controls are clearly marked on the plate amp panel.Four screw in floor spikes and metal plated are provided.The unit integrates into my "historic" set up without effort and even looks good as a piece of furniture.

The "straight out of the box" performance is "awesome". and care must be taken not to overdrive the internal class "D" amplifier. The pefrormance is clear and precise. I am not sure if this sub has to be "conditioned" for best performance as indicated on other review sites. What I can say is that i purchased this sub from www.superfi.co.uk for under £200 including next day delivery.

Of course, if money is no object then this is not the product for you.

My search for an affordable high quality MUSICAL SUB is over. I have tried many to supplement my monitor speakers and to date the Epos ELS sub offers the best musical integration overall of any sub I have tried. (Not too far behind it was the Rocket UFW 10).

I tried Martin Logan Grotto and Velodyne HGS-10 ($1,400 sub) high end subs which were accurate and great with dinosaur stomping house shaking ultra organ blasting sound but didn't at integrate with my Dynaudio Focus 140 speakers (which put out more quality bass than any monitor I have ever heard by the way). The low notes, now matter how I tried to tone it down, stood out like a sore thumb on some musical passages with the Velodyne and Martin Logan Subs.

Not so with the Epos ELS sub. With its high and low pass filters and smooth gradual crossovers, it blended seemlessly with my music. In fact, it was specifically designed to blend with and complete the lower register of monitor speakers.

They excel and musical integration and do not attempt to be the end all for home theater at all. Yes, you can turn them up a bit and adjust the crossover up for improved home theater output which is good with home theater, but not in the same class as the forementioned subwoofers. However, for seemless integration and musical extension into the lower registers, I have not heard better. With music, the output of this subwoofer is excellent.

No rattling or buzzing from the heavy medium sized enclosure case. The electronics are also in a seperate compartment in the enclosure to protect them. It may be wrapped in a quality vinyl only instread of veneer, but the electronics and woofer are audiphile grade high end EPOS M sub which sells for almost twice as much but has beautiful real veneer. This is not a compact sub but not the largest either. Its size and weight perhaps a prerequisite for the 20 to 150Hz tones it puts out.

My only quibble is that the crossovers do not specifically label the adjustment knobs with frequency numbers. You simply adjust intuitively from center. Still, you need to trust your ears and considering you are getting the same electronics for around $700 that costs around $1,200 MSRP for their EPOS M sub otherwise, this is a compromise anyone who wants audiophile musical grade sub sound at modest prices can live with.

Not a good choice for home theater. Easily overdriven. The only way around this is to adjust the low pass to a higher frequency.

This is a solidly built sub that perfectly complements the sound of the ELS3 bookshelf speakers. The bass is deep and clean. Sounds awesome. However, I don't believe the 300 watt power rating. It seems underpowered. I have this sub in a small room, and I'm not a bass-head. I like a neutral, natural sound. So I don't have the sub's volume cranked up too high. But this sub is very easy to over drive. Every time there's an explosion in a movie the sub makes a loud pop and shuts off. But I don't have this problem when listening to music. For a 2 channel music only system I would recommend this sub. But if you're building a home theater, look elsewhere.
