Strength:

Unbelievable output. Solid all the way down past 25Hz.

Weakness:

None

Wow. I don't need to repeat the glowing reviews that have been written about this unit by Audio, Stereophile and Sound and Vision magazines. This little guy really cranks, and Dr. Hsu is about the nicest guy you could EVER buy a speaker from.
I measured the output and it goes solidly down to 25Hz, and has about a -4db rolloff down to 20Hz, easily superior to any subwoofer I've seen around the $500 range, and the equal to many $1000-$1500 subs. Forget that this has a 10" woofer, it's louder than many 15"ers that I've heard.
Sure, there is a little distortion (what boxed sub won't distort a little while cranking out 110dbs at 40Hz?), but this little guy really makes its presence felt.

If you're on a budget or only want to spend $500 on a sub, this is a true no brainer.

Strength:

Clean tight and deeeep

Weakness:

tricky as all subs

Well After reading the glowing reviews this Sub got I asked a friend to order it in LA and brought it to Mexico. At first I was dissapointed because I expected to be much better than my Infinity, but I left it for 3 hours playing the test tones of my Yamaha DSPA-1 (44 hz) at veru loud levels to check if the sub needed to be broken in ..the sound improved so I left it a week alone (I need to work you know) and spent 3 full hours fiddling with the position and levels and checking for standing waves in the room with the test tone generator of the Yamaha..viola! after a while I found the perfect position (my wife did like it..but what the hell) and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!...This sub is way much controled, and clean than my Infinity, in a power contest the infinity is louder but there is no comparison on accuracy and response. The reponse is virtualy flat to 25 hz and the cabinet is free of buzzing and resonances, so Now Ill use this subwoofer for extension of my Infinitys RS IIIB and the Infinity Su 150 for movies! Conclusion..take your time finding the sweet spot and if you want a sub for playing music this is the one !
Question: are the guys at HSU developing a full range Loudspeaker?

Getting a trial of the VTF-2 sub at a local dealer I was surprised at the fact that it was a single 10" driver with only 150watts of power amp on board.
It was so defined and different to the other subs I had tried . This was the only sub that did not exibit excess boom and overhang .Tonality wise it is far ahead of all other subs I had ever tried.I demonstrated it with a variety of music and film sound and it just plain rocked.
But it is a deceptive little sub because of its clean presentation and its ability to blend with your main speakers.
Once set-up in my living room I was amazed to find that by turning off the sub the output (mains set at full range)was weak. When flicking it back on it was like I had doubled the main speaker size. I could not detect by ear where the sub was positioned and I was only a metre away. The DVD of the Matrix had such tight and defined bass that I just mumbled to the girlfreind WOW this is a great sub.
The overhang and speed of this woofer is truely amazing. I guess I was so used to the loose bass presentations of the majority of subs that this was the first time I had heard bass done right. The VTF-2 is a rare find in a sea of subs that fail to get definition, speed,SPL,and tightness unless you pay major dollars.

tonality and deep low bass response

Weakness:

PK Hi-Fi in brisbane, first demonstrated this sub as a part of a package. I was actually in the market for some new main speakers.
As I already had the Velodyne CT-12 sub I was not looking at purchasing a new subwoofer and so I did not pay the vtf-2 much attention , but I was so very impressed with the demo containing this sub, I could not resist and so I Brought It (funny thing was I did not buy the speakers).
All I can tell you is, it won me over and I am very very happy with it's performance.
It has proved itself as the sub to have in its price range, it is playing lower and harder than my old Velodyne CT-12 and it has less bloom and bloat to boot.
Tune-full and accurate are words I do not use lightly , but the vtf-2 is one awesome sub.

The VTF-2 has proven to be an outstanding value. As he has done for so many, Dr. Hsu provided the optimum sub placement based on a supplied room layout. I was initially a bit skeptical of a placement, under an end table, about five feet to the right of my primary listening area. However, it has been just fine and really makes the couch jump.

I just wanted to mention one caution: So far, after about a month, I have had two failures. The first was that the amp never cooled down after going into standby mode. Since I am 30 miles or so from the Hsu offices, the unit was brought in and they replaced the amp. But now, after another two weeks, the replacement amp has died completely. So, the VTF-2 goes back tomorrow for a replacement - thus the subtraction of one star in the overall rating.

Even with that said, I am still sold on the VTF-2 and would highly recommend it.

Strength:

powerfull bass output floor rumbling excitement

Weakness:

not spiked down starts here & ends up there
defective driver

At first i was very satisfield with the vtf-2 but after 4 months of moderate use the driver went and it took 4 weeks to reeive a replacement. then again 2 months later the replacement driver went . the gain on the amp is less than half way about at the 10 o'clock position and on thew receiver the db's are at -2. I am currently awaiting my latest replacement .I'm sur it will take anothe few weeks which really sucks when you spent $500.00 for something that you expect to perform as the company stated.
