Strength:

- Amazing bass for such a small footprint and pricepoint
- Stylish
- auto on/off
- comes with cd

Weakness:

manual is a printed out couple of pages from a cheap personal computer. Textures look is not for some.

I have been searchign for a good sub that I could afford for over a year now and after hearing enough good things about hsu I decided to give them a try. I called the company and they told me to come in to demo their subs since I live in ca. The HSU rep also told me that I would receive a 10% discount, tax would be taken off, and obviously no shipping if I decided I wanted one there. upon my demo session I listened to a variety of music and home theater and was very impressed with everything I heard and doubted that the vtf-2 only had a 10inch driver. It blew away anything I could get from the klipsh 200watt sub I had that was priced at $800 so I was sold. It took a short while to break this baby in and it is sounding great in my HT setup. Great deal...I couldn't believe that a sub could sound that rich and powerful for only $450. Value rating I would give a 6 if I could.

Strength:

Awesome subwoofer. Good value & quality sounds great & you can feel the sound reverberate inside you.

Weakness:

I don't like the issue with the power coard (Humming type feed back) see review for comments.

I love my VTF-2. I feel it has good value & that the factory is most helpful with questions even before you buy. I bought this Subwoofer based on reviews here & in magizine reviews. Glad I did as I tried demoing other brands in person & was never impressed. This one goes deep & if you want to feel it kick you in the chest just turn it up.Even with the foam plug in it is the best I have heard. Now for the power coard thing. I read about this problem in other reviews. I felt I would not have any problems because my home is wired correctly & grounded properly. I got the feedback from my unit & bought a 3 to 2 prong adaptor for it & it cured the problem. Now my question. If so many people have the same problem why not install a polarized plug from the factory? Thats a plug that has a 1 wide & 1 skinny blade on it so you have to plug it into a outlet correctly (Wide side is neutral) All feed back would be eliminated & no one would have to deal with it. Just a thought.Anyway it sounds great & the fix was easy. & Yes you can vibrate your home & rattle your windows. My kids were watching the Pearl Harbor DVD & I just came home I got to the front poarch & I honestly thought a building was coming down nearby & turned to look. The low rumble was so real I am not kidding it fooled me. Luckily this can be adjusted by turning it down. But it's nice to know if you want to go there you can hehe.

Strength:

Very Musical,Bullitproof Finish,Quite Sturdy
Smartest Money Spendable for a Subwoofer
Keeps Up With My Krell!

Weakness:

Not Easily Adapted to my truck for road trips....... :-(

This is just an incredibly well designed and produced powered module. In the 30 odd years I been in and out and around the industry from Low-Fi to the Lunatic Fringe I cannot think of such a well executed dollar for dollar value.
Musically There Are quicker more accurate Configuirations out there but they will involve moving the decimal point a place or two to the right on the price. And they still will not be any where in the ballpark of the Cost/Performance factor.
Check out Dr.Hsu's Bio: http://www.hsuresearch.com/webdocs/drhsu.html
This guy lives this stuff.
After reading a review of the VTF2 I was fortunate to be in his neck of the woods and decided to call in.
Upon meeting him I was struck with the warmth of the man who's mind is obviously always working on several things at once. He was more than happy to sit down and demo the sub for me and discuss room acoustics for my applications.
The building that my system is currently in has bizarre wiring that spans 80 years so the fact that I've never had any problem with hum is plain luck. The other reviews here will tell you about the viceral effects of this unit and you should believe them all.
I Completely Support his type of approach to research/develpment/production. Dr.Hsu has earned my loyalty for his uncomprimizing pursuit of quality and value for his customers. I look forward to the future products with great anticipation.
It's one of those 6 star things ya' know.

Strength:

Everything you can possibly think of. Tight, clean, low with very little distortion, vibrates walls in house, and beats most subs several times it price.

Weakness:

Just the humming I've experienced like everyone else. Easy fix though so it's no biggie.

I don't know where to begin to summarize this sub. All I know is I went out on a limb to get this sub because I wasn't able to audition it. I've read a lot of personel and highly acclaimed magazine reviews. I thought what the heck I'll give these babies a shot. Let me tell you I was not at all disappointed with this sub. It met and exceeded my expectations for such a low price range. Wow, I'm amazed. All these other companies with high price subs should be ashamed to allow such a low price sub to out perform their high price subs. Maybe HSU doesn't have a big name for itself yet. But watch out this company is on the move.

Music or Movie. This sub does a wonderful job. Tight & clean low bass. Try movies like Pearl Harbor, U571, and Air Force One to test this sub out. Talking about wall shaking. Secure girlfriend or wife's knick-knacks because I've nocked a few of their shelves. I also have listened to many classical pieces with this sub and very impressive at this end too.

Value rating this a 10 all the way. Overall rating definitely a 5. I don't think you'll find a better sub in this, the next, or the next price ranges. This is a no brainer buy. I would definetely advice anyone who don't have the real big bucks to buy this superb sub!!!! Enough said.

Strength:

very tight bass! flexability!! runs in two modes. will create violent, messy-pants type of results. really.

Weakness:

it's cheap enough to spook you into not taking a serious look at it.

i recently bought this sub also without getting a chance to audition it.
it is a very well kept sub. although with your prefered dial-in, you can make this sub explode with h.t. set ups.

i bought mine for it's music capabilitys, and i am very, very happy with it's performance. it is a very tight sounding sub. no boomy-ness at all. drums speak very well though this sub, as you can hear and feel the skin of the drum resonate.

i was pretty blown away when i pushed the sub on the dvd iron giant. there are very explosive hits on that dvd that flat out scared me, as i wasn't expecting such violent hit from such a inexpensive sub.

i also talked to dr. hsu himself, a very soft spoken man. he understands the value of customer support as do the people at av123.com.
this sub will easily bum your friend out that bought that expensive sub. the build quality is amazing at this price point as well! please give it a serious thought before you buy that "other" sub.

my ratings i am giving were carefully thought over, and i stand behind this product 100%!!!
---and i'm more picky than your wife!

Strength:

Tight, punchy & rich with music(cds and dvd concerts), amazing depth with movies.

Weakness:

Like everyone else here I love this subwoofer, I have it set up in between my Energy XL 26'S(depth capabilities down to 37hz) and it blends extremely well.
I have the crossover set at 50, the crossover switch to "out" and the phase switch set to "o".
I get amazing depth from this subwoofer, so far I have
watched U 571 & Armagedon(can shake the basement and the volume control is only set at the 8 o'clock position).
Another comment I would like to make is how fast and precise Fedex shipped this thing(5 business days from California).

very fluid sound when coupled with my ascend acoustics speakers, the sound is realistic and broad. HSU factory always willing to answer questions and very knowledgeable. you will not be disappointed if you give it a chance. the sound is like one complete sound not a sound coming from a certain area or from that sub or that speaker. it truly envelopes you!!! I am pleased. using a consumer reports best buy receiver technics sa-dx 1050 and the ascend acoustics speakers(also very impressive), an affordable but perfect combination with no compromises

Best quality Subwoofer on the Planet for the money.

I own a VTF-2 which has been the hottest reviewed subwoofer on the planet. It's hard to believe that you can get such high end qulity out of a budget priced component. Hsu has just announced that they will begin shipping the new 12 inch 250 watt VTF-3 the second week in February. The folks at www.nax .com are taking pre orders already at a special introductory price of only $749.00 and free shipping. I ordered mine today......

Strength:

Plenty of power, good range, great flexibility

Weakness:

is not able to hide in the room.

Great sound. I'm very happy happy with the value of this sub. I won't go into detail as most is exhausted in the reviews below.

My imput is my wife didn't like the way it looked in the room. She loved the results, but thought it was a ugly. She has come up with a great idea of sewing a cover for the sub. We bought some fabric that would fit into the room and she made a great cover. Since the sub is down firing, she made the cover so it didn't obstruct the bottom or the port holes on either side. It works great, and now it fits into the room.

If anyone else would like this done with their sub, please email me at Lessert89@yahoo.com and we can probably work something out.

Strength:

Amazing sound, price.

Weakness:

I purchased this sub along with the ascend acoustics 5.1 surround sound package, and it was the best purchase of my life. The ascend speakers are phenomenal, and work really well with this subwoofer, but this sub is the cornerstone of the system, and continues to amaze me. Absolutely no boominess, and it's always contributing to the great sound even when it's not a bass-heavy scene. Movies like Saving Private Ryan (opening scene) and Final Fantasy sound amazing when the sub is asked to take over. I woudl have liked to see an instruction MANUAL rather than the pages, that's a bit annoying, but a minor complaint in light of the sub's performance. The size is definitely larger than it seems on the web site, and the finish may not appeal to everyone (XX factor I give it a 6 out of 10), but for me these aren't concerns, and I can think of nothing negative to say about the sound quality this sub gives in both music and movies.
