Strength:
Small package, Good bass for movies. Releable. Price is reasonable
Weakness:
Not overwhelming bass response but quite ample. Purchased last year to start my HT system. Compiled w/ JBL LD310 fronts, JBL S-Center and Infinisty QPS-1 Quadrapole Rears. Sony 500 waatt DE525 AV Receiver. Have no had one lick of problems with this unit. Sometimes too overwhelming depending on the DVD that is playing (probably just an adjustment on my part). I listened to several subs at HH Gregg before deciding on this model. I thought that even though it only has an 8" speaker the response was better than some cheaper 10" and 12" models. So far so so good. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Enhanced sound in limited room size, small enough to hide
Weakness:
Probably big enough for power users I have added this product to my surround in conjunction with 4-Infinity RS1's and a CC1 center. It really enhanced the type of music and video sound that I enjoy listening to. My room is small 12x14, so I really couldn't use the extra sound that a larger SW might offer. The BU-80 is just what the doctor ordered for my needs. |

Strength:
Musically enjoyable. Able to produce good low frequency effects in home theater. Inexpensive; even a pair would be inexpensive. Easy to hide.
Weakness:
I can imagine that a tighter base (higher Q) would be nice in some recordings. Base response might not be fast enough for use with some speakers (ie, electrostatics) but this is not a problem in my system. No weakness in home theater use, in a 14 by 18 room with cathedral ceiling. I got this little gem shortly after upgrading my electronics to seperates a couple of years ago. I thought my system sounded pretty good, and only got the sub for Dolby Digital LFE. However, I found that this sub has added a lot to my listening enjoyment of stereo recordings as well. This unit makes my DVDs come alive (I'm right there on the beach at D-day in Saving Private Ryan; the scene in Leathal Weapon 4 where the two trains hit the car makes my guests jump out of their seats). At the same time it gives a real boost to the feel of the bass (especially nice in jazz recordings like Holly Cole's "Don't Smoke in Bed") or the drums (for example the live version of the Eagles "Hotel California"). I have noted no problem with integrating the sound fields produced by this sub with my center or main speakers, which are high-quality 4-way towers. The variable cross-over frequency is very nice. The power of this unit is adequate; I never need to set the volume above about 1/2. Similar Products Used: Have auditioned Velodyne (to $1500), B & W (to 1000). They do seem a little more musical, but not worth 3 to 6 times the money. |

Strength:
Relatively cheap, decent bass
Weakness:
Can't handle hard-hitting bass of hip hop music, not very powerful For about 249, not an expensive buy. It's an 8'' sub, with a 70 watt amp. DO NOT buy this sub if you have a large room, like hard hitting bass, or listen to bass oriented material. I can handle bass guitars alright, but man-made bass like that of rap, dance, hip hop, and club music is a little hard to handle. Once it gets to loud, my box starts shaking and making an annoying sound buzzing sound. Also, don't plan on filling a large room with this sub, my room is about 12x15, and it's barely engulfed by the bass. |

Strength:
great flexible controls, good bass, small size, very reliable so far...
Weakness:
have to play at fairly loud volume to kick into "active" mode, but still sound okay at non-active mode. I didn't really appreatiate this sub until I decided one day to not use it anymore. I always thought it was a mistake buying this one since I basically bought the cheapest, reasonably good sounding one I could find. Anyway, I disconnected it so I could sell it and found that I could no longer listen to music without it. Since then I've up graded my system with a high current amp, some descent wires and I'm very happy with the way my system sounds. It sounds very musical. Similar Products Used: none..first one |

Strength:
Solid performer with proper room placement
Weakness:
Set expectations for an 8" sub Picked this up for a cheap price. I was very displeased at first, but proper room placement, and crossover setting revealed a slick little sub. While it will not re-locate your roof, it will make the family jump like hell...you can feel it throughout my entire home. I am very pleased with the purchase. Similar Products Used: N/A. I have been using a pair of JBL 4311, no sub needed |

Strength:
Compact size I believe this unit is very good for what it was intended to do. That is add bass to a relatively low powered, inexpensive HT system for a small room. I read some of the reviews by so called "audiophiles" and am perplexed. Of course, if you add this unit to big power hungry fronts, it will not measure up to a larger unit, BUT COME ON. I run this unit with my 70watt Yamaha RX-V, and Mission 700's, and it sounds great. And for the price I paid, I could not be happier. Of course, a 15" Velodyne is a very nice sub, but my listening room is only 12 x 15, and for that, I think this unit sound great and was a great value. Oh, sure, anyone can spend $1000 for a SUPER-SUB, but if you are looking for a good deal, I highly recommend this unit. Similar Products Used: Mission, Infinity, Yamaha, Denon |

Strength:
Good Price, compact size
Weakness:
underpowered, distorts at midlevel volumes This sub is not the greatest. If you have a small apartment, dorm room, or bedroom system, this sub would suit you well. It seems to be either very quiet, or overly boomy. The musical quality just doesn't seem to be there. It's okay for movies, and has a nice tight sound with proper placement. For the money, I would look at Definitive Technology ProCinema subs. Similar Products Used: Definitive Technology, Paradigm, Klipsch |
