After all these years I think Infinity has finally made a subwoofer right! I originally heard it's bigger brother, the HPS-1000 at CES and was really impressed at what a good job it did with music. I was also really impressed when I found out the price (about $1300 retail i believe). I thought the price would be a lot higher than that. I came across a great deal on the HPS-250 and decided to give it a try. Like it's bigger brother it does a great job with music-a quick tight bass that sometimes may sound a little muddy depending on the material you're listening too, but for the most part very musical. This is the first powered subwoofer for under $1000 that I have heard that does a good job with music. All the other ones I have heard were good for movies but not so good for music. And yes the HPS-250 is also great with movies. Of course no subwoofer is perfect so these are the things I don't like: The knobs feel kind of cheap (even though they are on the front which I like), the crossover is not defeatable, and there is no auto-standby mode. All in all a fine product. Good job Infinity! |

Strength:
Great Sounding
Weakness:
None I have this setup as a pass through subwoofer. I have the left and right front speakers hooked up to it instead of using the LFE connection. My system is in my basement and it has to fill a romm that is approximately 20'x30'. My receiver is not Dolby digital so it doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer output. It's a sony dolby surround receiver SDE325. My receiver is the last item I need to upgrade. I'm looking at either the Marantz sr7000, sr8000, or the denon 3300. Similar Products Used: Bic Venturi |
