I have purchased this sub new 7 yrs ago, I am very happy with the performance of this sub. The problem is the plate amplifier, has stopped working on 3 seperate occasions. I refuse to get the plate amp. repaired for the 3rd time. I decided to order a new plate amp. from Parts Express,

Strength:

good price, tight fast bass, nice looking, good make, decent brand, high efficiency

Weakness:

plastic mounting plate on front, sensitive to static electricity, low distortion

Well, after owning this sub, I would say for the price and what not, it blows away any other sub in the price range. The only comparable sub i find to this one is the ksw 10 or the ksw12, the velodine 8'' is ok as well. The ksw series by klipsch though have had fualty fuses and blow and people have been having problems with them, and then there is the fact that they distort at about 90 dB of sound on a 50 watt receiver. That is weak. The vel is so small and it does sound good but doesn't have much punch. The infinity has tight clean bass, and it is a very fast moving sub, and I have not been able to make it distort at normal operating conditions, i have maxed out the volume on the receiver that it is hooked up too and it did not distort, the level was about half way on the sub. As for the amp rattling, i don't think so, amps don't rattle...... the infinity utilizes and an fet transistor amp in a push pull configuration and and it is mount to the sub box itself and then screwed into place. Maybe the grill rattled after you put it on and off every 5 min and the plastic wears out. This sub for under 500 is most liklley the best brand new in box sub money can buy

Strength:

Nice, clean bass. The bass optimization system. Best value for the money of any sub that i've listened to.

Weakness:

Feet should be a little bit more rubbery so that it could stay in place on smooth floors

I am totally surprised with the performance of this sub. I thought I'd need a 12 but the 10 has no problem at all providing all the low end I need. I had to change the placement of the sub a few times before I got good frequency response out of it at my main listening location; but that would have to be done for any sub. I can't wait to get the bass optimization kit to move the performance of this sub up to a whole new level.

Strength:

Your guess by looking at it is probably, no way can that little 10"in hum. JUST TRY IT!

Weakness:

ABSOLUTELY NONE!

Guys come on! This little guy absolutely thumps! If you look at the reviews on the Sony SAW-M40 it has more reviews than any other sub on this site and rates very high! I agree the Sony (for the price) is a great sub! But when I hooked up the Infinity... It blew me away. No Bob Carver didnt make it but so.

Strength:

seems to be built well, lot's of power(250 watts) the driver is strong and lite with accurate sounding bass.

Weakness:

that it is listed here as a main speaker and not a SUBWOOFER =(none)

this is a well rounded sub, i got this mostly for movies but it sounds good with music as well. out of the box it took me no time to hook it up,and since it's kind of small
(13w x13h x 17d) finding a place to put it was a snap.
After a few hours of fine tune-en,i sat back to watch a few parts of the matrix...the 10in woofer came to life with deep bass and a nice punch that filled the (13x17ft) room

As for music, it was willing to show me that it was just as good at music as it was at HT, i tried a mix of tunes from
acoustic stuff to heavy metal and it did just fine.

all in all i am happy to own this sub,it never sleeps on the job,and it has alot of power to go around..

Strength:

good clean bass

Weakness:

i blew it up the first week i had it

When I first got it it sounded great. After using it for a couple of days the amp started rattling, and then the speaker started rattling when I pushed it at all. I blew it up I guess. Don't buy this sub if you plan on pushing it. I never turned it up more than half way! This was very disapointing. So I took it back to CC and got the Velodyne CT120. The Velodyne is far superior.

Strength:

Clean, tight, versitle bass.

Weakness:

Blows easily, amp rattles, infinity repair centers are incompetent.

If you like music loud, then the Infinity IL-100s is probably not for you. Keeping in mind that THIS subwoofer is designed to distribute bass to the room, not rattle it, I would have to say that it serves its purpose. I have enjoyed my time with this product, but that was cut short about 3 1/2 months ago when something went wrong with the built in amp. To make a long story short, I was quoted a repair time of 3-4 weeks (MAX!!!), but Infinity managed to turn that 3-4 weeks into 3 FULL MONTHS. Luckily, after talking to a very helpful and understanding Infinity rep, I was granted a 1 year extended warranty and a brand new IL100s. The people that work for Infinity are awesome, but the service time sucks. I have found the features on this subwoofer to be extremely unique and attractive. If it weren't for the weak woofer, the product would be near perfection. I do not regret purchasing this product, but I have come to expect more from Infinity. This is by NO MEANS a party speaker. From my perspective, this speaker was designed for personal listening quality. It works perfectly for home theater and rock/pop music tracks. Heavy bass tracks will most likely blow the speaker if you have the 'volume' on the sub turned up past 5 (of 10). So, if loud RAP is your thang, then don't buy this sub... you will blow it.

All in all, this subwoofer is a very satisfying piece of equipment for casual use. Just don't plan on throwing any parties with extra-ordinarily loud music. The technology is very innovative and will serve the purpose of personal listening levels. As I said, if you are into loud RAP, then this speaker is not for you. Since it is a 10" sub, it is great for techno, rock, pop, jazz, movies, and a few other variations of those classifications. I would recommend this product to anyone who enjoys quality over quantity (refering to the bass output). The sound is tight, clean, and responsive. Just don't pay over $350 for it.

Strength:

it sounds pretty good

Weakness:

well? the constant annoying hum! the amplifier that rattles is also a big problem.

well I'm on my second Il100s and plan to get my 3rd, or maybe a completey different sub. the first Il100s hummed and it hummed loud! it also wouldn't turn off! hmm thats a big problem. decided to exchange it. well the second one is better but not by much. it still humms but not nearly as loud, and to tell ya the truth I think its getting louder. also the amp rattles like nuts! I thought that tightening the screws that held it to the cabinet, nope wrong, still there. think I'm gonna bring it back again.. maybe this time I'll walk away with another brand considering the complete audio failer of the BU series. maybe Harman Int. should do a little more subwoofer research.

Dear

Reader

I use the IL100s for music only. Below is my current audio set-up.

Yamaha CDR-S1000
Monster Cable M1000i
Classe CAP 151
Monster Cable M2.2s
Vienna Bach

Monster Cable SW400
Infinity IL100s

The Vienna's are very smooth and accurate, but do not intergate well any and all of the the subwoofers in the five hundred dollar price range. The Velodyne CT 100 and CT 120 are fine for HT, but too slow for the Vienna's. The IL100s was inserted into my set-up, and this offering is quite fast and controlled. Paul Chambers bass sounds natural, and most music of this circa is produced with verve.

Please use Monster Cable SW400 with the IL100s. It will give you deeper, and more controlled bass.

Infinity has produced a budget product with a high-end sound. If you need deeper bass, then go for the IL120s. For those on a budget, the IL100s is a very solid choice in this price range.
