Strength:

Tight bass response; many controls and inputs; price

Weakness:

None

Seems as though the other reviewers have covered the sub's sonic properties pretty thoroughly. I just wanted to say that I bought it after reading glowing online reviews here and on CNET. I was not disappointed. The sub has its own level control, phase control, crossover control good for 50-150Hz, and inputs for line level, speaker level, or digital LFE, covering every possible approach to adding it to your system. It has its own digital amplifier, consuming little power and making little heat. The bass sound is tight at low volumes or high, and the price is very good. Unless you want to fork out for a Triangle Titus or something like that, you really cannot beat this product.

Strength:

simple design, powerful amplifier, clean, accurate and not overwhelming bass

Weakness:

none thus far but will be keeping close scrutiny

I have only had this sub for a few days now but I will give my early impressions and then follow up in a few months. The E250P is replacing a D-Box 303, a second rate sub that I purchased at Costco almost two years ago. The latter unit was way underpowered and I struggled to keep its output reasonable sounding with my HT system. I had enough and was fed up with the battle so I took it back. I needed something with more than enough power and something that wouldn't rumble distort or pop distort. The THX test segment at the beginning of Star Wars episode I is one of the ways to put the sub through its paces. The E250P passed with flying colors! Not so much as a drop of over excursion rumble or popping. The D-box couldn't handle this anywhere near as well. (Yes I am kicking myself in the butt for not upgrading sooner!) At any rate, thus far I am very impressed. This thing produces powerful, clean and accurate bass. I'll submit a review in a few months to follow up.

Strength:

Very tight and controlled, very dynamics on music and movies.

Weakness:

The only thing that I can think of is that it might not be quite as tight as some of the real high end subs out there but the difference would be real small and the price difference would make me happier to get this sub for allot less and use the extra money to go on a CD and DVD shopping spree!!

I am an audiophile and music lover from the word go. My thing is not to go out and buy the most expensive equipment out there and just put it in my house and say that I have the best. I am more interested in making components that are reasonably priced but still high end stuff that is built well sound like I went out and spent a million on my system. Being a family man I just can not see myself spending as much on my equipment as some of these "money is no object" people. I have other things in my life as well. I had my system pretty much complete except I thought I needed more bass for the theater side of my system. When I first started looking at subwoofers I went first to Paradigm because my Mains are Monitor 7's and I love the sound. The PDR series was just not powerful enough for what I needed or wanted and While the PS series looked good on paper and in person. The PS 12" cabinet is huge for a 12" model and from studying bass inclosures from car audio systems and custom home installs I am not a fan of band pass inclosures which the PS series is. So after I made the decision that Paradigm would not work for me I went on the search for a good sub to work with my monitor 7's. The subs from SVS and Hu looked good online but I do not like buying something I can not hear first and I also did not want to take out a mortgage to buy my sub, Thats just a joke but I figured since I have been able to build one heck of a system without feeling the "paid way to dang much" guilt that you feel after buying something that you know if you would have done your research you would not have payed so much for. So I started looking in my area at the local stores for a great sub at a mid level price. I went to BB one day and looked at the Yamaha 315, Sound ok at low volumes but fell apart at high levels. And Yamaha says it is servo controled. It does not matter if you have servo control or not if the driver does not have the exsursion capabilities to move any air, the thing will just work against itself. I looked at Sony. NO WAY!! I have never been a big fan of Sony Audio and their subs is just another reason to feel that way. I looked at Klipsh and they were pretty clean and the cabinets were a livable size and I realy considered the 12" model untill the salesman said there was one more line of subs that I needed to see before making any decisions. The JBL E series. When I went over and looked at them the 150 and 250 looked very good in appearance and were a good size to live with. I looked and the drivers and they were well built with very rigid cone structures and well made rubber surrounds that would allow the woofer to have the excursion capabilities that are needed to move air at higher volumes.I have always liked the aquaplas cones for their rigidy and their ability to reproduce bass with a weight and athority while keeping tight and clean. the weight of the units told me that the cabinets were built well and were thick enough to hold together for a very long time. I also liked the flared port on the bottom of the cabinet(no port noise). When the saleman turned the units on I immediately noticed that both the 10 and 12" models had more weight and tighter bass than the other subs that I have listened to. When I asked the saleman to turn them up to make sure they don't distort or fall apart on themselves when things get wild he gladly did without even thinking about it and told me that this line of subs is the only one that he carried that he was not affraid to kick the heck out of because he knew they could take it. At this point there was only one question left to answer, How would they sound in my home. Well the good thing is that while I was standing there hearing the E250P another gentleman came up and told me that he had that exact sub in his house and he would back up the salemans views of how it performed. He even invited me to his home to check out how it sounded in a home invironment, I took him up on his offer I was not sorry. At his house the sub was way tighter, had more weight to the bass and talk about dynamics. So that day I went back and bought the 250 and have not been sorry since. I have tried to hit the limits with this sub and have not seemed to do it yet. This thing will not distort. I put the DVD Balde 2 in to test the bass because I know how dynamic it is and I was blown away to the fact that a sub that cost about half as much as the subs I started looking at when I began looking at subs could realy impress me like that. Every person I have had in my home has been blown away by its performance. Even a good friend of mine thats a fellow audiophile said that he would never expect that a sub that cost so little could pound out the kind of tight control and wieght that this thing was bringing. He even said that he would put this sub right up against his B&W which cost more than twice as much as the JBL and that for sheer output and power it would probably blow his beemer away. Bring on the bass!!

Strength:

Fun, and passed all the bass tests that I subjected these subwoofers to. By bass tests I mean the same tests I guess they use in judging car audio competitions or so my friends (the car audio enthusiasts) tell me.

Weakness:

I am sure the expensive subwoofers offer you a little bit better sound. To me it just wasn't worth the price.

A little while ago I had decided to make the leap of faith from my four KLH built in 12" woofers and equalizer to an equalizer and subwoofer. My Friends (Big car audio enthusiasts) all told me that once I had bass, I would want more. How right they were. After purchasing one P250e and loving it, I went online and got myself another one. First off, I am a huge "audiophile," I play the guitar in a band, I attend every concert I can (90 miles away in Phoenix), I have a decent Alpine system in my SUV, and decided to up my day-to-day home music and home theater experience. Whenever I got tired of writing some college paper I would go online and read every review i possibly could before going cross-eyed. I heard all these horrible things from HSU, Velodyne, and SVS owners, but I just couldn't help look at the prices. Just to let you know early, I have no idea what this "boomy" sound is that I read every single person write about. I have yet to see this onomatopoeia explained, at least in a way that I understand. What I do know is that the bass peddle during my favorite metal songs has been reborn, and the bass guitar sounds like the person is playing in your room. Those rap and techno tracks, yeah, they have forced me to reattach all pictures with a few extra nails. With my new setup, my Playstation 2 games are now actually being played. Even the old Nintendo 64 came out of storage, and I still laugh how different those old MIDI soundtracks sound, or even the thud of a character hitting the ground in Super Smash Brothers that I can now feel. The movie playing experince, well lets just say that my house is now more popular than the movie theater. The thing that amazes me the most would have to be how well the e250's blended in with my already patched together system. All eight (6.2 as some people seem to call it) speakers flow together beautifully, possibly having something to do with my $50 equalizer, but who knows. For my overall opinion, all I have to say is that I loved having one so much that I went out and got another.

Strength:

Ascetics, sound quality.

Weakness:

Only that I didn't buy this sooner. I tried the rest but ended up with the best.

I connected this JBL to my Pioneer 7.1 surround receiver subwoofer pre-out jack. I’m extremely impressed with the quality of and depth the E250 generates. I tested this by playing the end of the Matrix Revolutions movie where Neo and Smith battle and the Machine conscience say’s “It is finished” or something to that effect. I had the subwoofer set up to the 7 setting just to see what would happen and the pictures two rooms away were shaking. I also tested a Klipsch 10” and Infinity 12” 300watt RMS. The Klipsch 10” was an open box from best buy ($354.00) which I took back. The Infinity 12” sounded fine and would rock the house similar to the JBL E250 but at a circuit city price off ($449.00) it had to go. Best Buy sells the E250 series on SALE for ($474.00) so you can’t beat the price I paid for this unit at http://Bestpriceaudiovideo.com ($215.00 free UPS Ground, ordered on Monday received on Friday!!!). Kudo’s to the guy at http://Bestpriceaudiovideo.com who soothed my initial skepticism. I’ll submit another review in a few months with additional details and impressions.

Strength:

Deep tight bass, very accurate, low cost, alot of power, nice looking lots of features

Weakness:

None so far

First I would like to say that Bestpriceaudiovideo.com is awesome! They really do have the best prices! I bought 2 of the JBL E250's for a total of $498.00 with free shipping. I got them today, hooked them up and WOW! So much power, deep tight bass! I know it's no svs or hsu but beleive me they are AWESOME and for half of what the svs costs. I have all JBL speakers so these work perfect and are very attractive. I am very pleased with their performance and I know everyone else will be too, just don't buy from Best Buy, they were $475.00 each! Can we say massive mark-up!
