Strength:

Good Strong Bass

Weakness:

Noticable 60 cycle hum when running and in stand-by

The PB-12 I have is a replacement for a PSW-112.
The PSW-112 is junk!. The one I had lasted less than 6 months. It took JBL over 5 months to replace it after their authorized repair center could not get parts from JBL to repair it.
Time will tell if the PB-12 is any good. I have noticed it does run very warm as electrical insulation smells come from the unit.
I would recommend waiting for 6 months or more before buying any Sub-Woofer from JBL. The Power Amp they used in the PSW-112 was junk and I would be concerned they may not have it completely fixed in the PB-12.

Strength:

Great Lows, Enough Power to cloud any Front system with sound if the knob goes up enough. NO DISTORTION

Weakness:

Heavy as hell to carry up to my 3rd floor Dorm

Great Sub, Tried many others with a smaller cone (Infiniti, Boston) They both reached their limits well before the JBL. LFE works lovely on DTS movies. Has Inputs for people without Sub out. Bass response is tight all the way to about 25 where it rattles things you didnt even know moved. Ive blown several subs before, and JBL offers the best warranty on a powered sub that i have seen (5 years).

Awesome Product

Just got this sub today. I had it on order from PCRichard for the last month. Big JBL fan because they deliver good sound for a very reasonable price. Own L3 mains which have been pounding out music for over seven years. Love 'em. Not sure about PB12 because I just got it, but I'm sure it will do the job. I am not a conceited audiophile that feels he has to purchase a thousand dollar sub from an obscure company, but I do appreciate good sound. Will post a more detailed review in a few weeks.

Strength:

Deep bass, esthetics, power. Bass that slams you with little to no distortion

Weakness:

The two lights on the front are a little bright in a dark room.

I have been looking for the right sub for a while now. I have tried many different kinds, but most seemed to lack the walup and low bass I was looking for at least the ones within my somewhat limited budget. The PB12 really seems to deliver. The cabinet is nice nothing super special but certainly well built. It has 5-way binding posts as well as l/r low level inputs. It also has phase as well as LFE bypass switches. It goes very low without distortion and I have yet to bottom this thing out, and this is at very high volumns. I use my system mainly for movies so I can not really comment on it musical abilities, but its performance in my HT is fantastic. I can honestly say that this sub competes with the velodyne ct120 quite well and some respects beats it. For performance I rate it at 5 stars, regardless of price (meaning not "for its price"). Value is also very good as this sub cost me less than $500.

Strength:

very low bass, small footprint, up-to-date styling.lfe direct input

Weakness:

no detachable power cord(very small flaw),non transmition line

I think jbl should pat themselves on the back for this sub!!! It is very competitive with other subs in it's price performance range, and some that are much more expensive. I have heard energy, velodyne, other jbl subs infinity and b&w,sunfire,....etc....let me tell you not to discredit any of the others but the only one iv'e heard that I perferred a little more has to be the definitve tech noticeably because it goes so low and keeps hitting hard without bottoming out or going into a frenzy! By the way the TL15. This sub is amazing once you tune it to suit your room size I cant say it enough whoever engineered this sub needs a raise because they have honestly come out with a sub that's not boomy or uncontrolled in any way and i havent even broken this thing in yet!!!!!!I cant wait untill a couple of months when this beast has really broken in,,,,,,,just buy it and at the price if your room is large enough, buy two of them and run them stereo,.........happy listening!!!!

Strength:

LFE compatible, gold-post connections, incredible smooth and punchy bass.

Weakness:

None so far!

I listened to many lower priced subs including Infinity, Polk, Cerwin-Vega, Yamaha, Bose and other JBL models and I can honestly say that none even came close to this subwoofer at this price. I noticed how smooth the bass was every time I demoed them in stores (I went back three times before deciding) and finally bought them online because they were much less expensive. The others either broke up at high levels (Polk and Infinity), sounded dead or dirty (Bose and Cerwin-Vega) or sounded good at lower levels but completely broke up at higher levels (Yamaha). A Sony 12" actually sounded amazingly good (12") and at $200 was tempting. The 50hz cross-over point blends perfectly with my KEF References and I cannot tell you how wonderful it all sounds together. I was ready to blow $600 or more on a sub but this does it all!

Strength:

Detects really low frequencies, and has a low bypass crossover

Weakness:

nothin

This subwoofer is kickin. It has so much bass and and it's so clear. There is no thudding, buzzing, or and muddy sounds when I am watching a DVD or listening to music. Even when the volume is low the woofer still sounds so nice. I reccomend this over any subwoofer. The price is cheap, at $260 dollars and 250 watts of power bass you're getting a reall good deal
