Strength:

lows go really low, boom boom boom shake the room!

Weakness:

quality control, reliability

My first JBL subwoofer was just DOA, so I returned it
for another. Plugged in the monster subwoofer cable and
saw the green light =)

BASS THUMPS!
Used in conjunction w/ Sony STR-DA555ES Receiver.

Yet to hear a difference w/ the "video contour" green light on though.

For 250W and a 12" woofer, this is a great VALUE BUY!
Just be sure not to break your back carrying it!

Not Reliable

I ordered this subwoofer from Onecall.com for $249. After receiving the subwoofer, and testing it out for a couple of hours watching The World is not Enough on DVD, the subwoofer died. The power on light just won't come on. The sound was good, but the subwoofer just isn't reliable. Called JBL service place, and they recommended me to just return the subwoofer and get another one since parts for this particular model take a while to get in. So my advice, and opinion, stay away from this model!! Should have read the reviews on this model more carefully.

Strength:

Great bass the couple months that I used it

Weakness:

Quality

I got the same problem as just about everybody else -- my amp blew out after only 3 or 4 months, and I didn't even use it that much either...damn POS. Now it's going to take weeks and weeks to repair the thing. Well, as most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Strength:

Powerful

Weakness:

amplifier

I bought this sub about a month ago from the Harman Audio outlet in Oxnard, CA. I brought it home hooked it up, and it sounded awesome. It shook the walls. But after just two weeks of sporadic use, I turned it on day and heard a loud snap. Then it just crackled very quietly. I took it back to the outlet the next weekend. The sales guy told me the amplifier was fried. So, I exchanged it for an Infinity bu-112. It is also a 12 driver, but has 100 less watts. It is much less powerful, but smaller too, which is good. The JBL sub was huge. So, I'll make due for the time being; at least until I figure out what is a more powerful sub for around the same $$. JBL should really figure out what their problem is. It'll be a long time before I buy another one of their products.

Strength:

Good sub

Weakness:

it blew soon after I bought it

To start off, I also got this unit from Wholesaleproducts.com. I used it for less than 20 hours and the next thing I knew, it didn't work anymore. In wholesaleproducts.com's defense, I contacted them and they said to send it into JBL and they would pay for any shipping costs. So at least I will not be out any money but will not have a sub for a month or two. Due to others having similar problems with wholeproducts.com's speakers, think twice before getting one from them.

Strength:

Lots of bass

Weakness:

Almost to much bass

I bought this unit before reading all the crappy reviews and boy am I worried every time I turn on my receiver but so far so good. I have a receiver with a dedicated Subwoofer Output that uses an RCA style plug for the connections. I'm wondering if the is some problem with using the other connection options. Well I got a steal of a deal on-line at $249 compared to the $400 Best Buy wanted but I'm keeping the box and packing materials just in case!

Strength:

sounded good when it worked

Weakness:

first one died within 30 days, second one died in 60 days

purchased at best buy in 1/2000. Went dead within 30 days.Returned and the second one died in 60 days, what a piece of crap! Thinking about using it for a boat anchor when it comes back from the repair shop, it sure is heavy enough. Now giving serious consideration to a PSB stratus subsonic. Wish I would have investigated this site before buying that 50lb piece of crap, $400 dollars later. This was my first experience with JBL and probably my last

Weakness:

can't go as high as i would have thought. the bass is not as crisp as i would like it to be.

i bought mine 6 weeks ago and use it constantly. i usually have it pushing its limits and it still works great. i dont know what all these people are talking about them not working. definatly a good buy.
