I saw this in a thrift store for $28.00. Grill was missing but otherwise looked very clean. I am largely clueless about quality audio but I looked this up and saw that every review was very favorable. I plugged it in at the store and touched the input to give it some 60 Hz "hum". WOW! It is chest thumping at 60 Hz. I can't wait to hook it up to something at home. I guess I'll craft some sort of grill to keep the cat away from the speaker cone. |

The JBL PSW-1000 10", ported, amplified subwoofer has only recently seen any competition in its pricing tier. The tight, full bass looms as a serious preponderance of home-theater-system quality, more so than practically any other element.

I bought the jbl pws1000 from Lazarous along with a jbl theater in a box ...amp w/satalites as well as built in sub with the satalite system(ran high out at first). *17 years later and 25 or different other powered sbwoofers through my theaters&stereos......running simotaneously with up to 3 suwoofers together along with it, from velodyne to klipsch and currently a paradigm up front with the psw1000 in surround right low pass.... *paid $245 as was floor model. The surround is 17yrs old&mint. Very durable hard working 10" and nice descrete jbl amp. Blends with tube systems and large power amps. Easy to match with other powered 10"'s and 12"'s. Blends well with Large moniters and small speakers what have you. . . sometimes with adjustments periodically as well as not so, with certain media&sometimes tracks. Large systems, rooms etc... |

I like my JBL PSW1000 with MDF body and dual input, I use with JBL home theatre amp. I think its best product from JBL (made in Canada) with power and crossover. |

I have this sub in s system with my Mackie MR8 monitors. It keeps up great!!! Looking for a second one like this now. I paid about $200 for this one, and would buy another, if at the same price. Eyerishtech@yahoo.com if anyone wants to sell theirs. |

Strength:
Very sold construction and no cheap plastic grill!!
Weakness:
Sometime I notice a wind noise from the port, but that is just normal at low bass I have had this sub from day one, and I think it is awesome!!!! I have used it at MSU parties and for home use and it is loud and clear. I only wish it had rubber surrounds because in time it will start to crack. When I was using it at a party at MSU, the only thing I was worried about was the amp getting too hot. It never failed but all I did was turn the gain down a bit and it was good for 16 hours straight at almost 1/2 volume and more!!! I want to upgrade, but I don't know to what and at what price I want to spend Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Great bass. Quick response despite the woofer size. The grill is wood, not cheap plastic!
Weakness:
none really. This sub was bought in 1996 and I'm still using it today. I have it set up in a 10'x14' room in the corner. I use it in conjunction with the Energy Take 5 home theatre kit and it sounds GREAT. Never had any problems. |

Strength:
Great Bass Response, Long Term Reliability
Weakness:
None. Just an update to my earlier review...I dug up my old paperwork and found out that this is a 1995 or late 1994 model that I have. I have used this sub for almost seven years and it has never given me a problem!! Originally I used it with my old Pioneer Pro-Logic Reciever, then I upgraded to a Pioneer Dolby Digital Reciever, and most recently, upgraded to a Harmon Kardon Dolby Digital/DTS/Pro-Logic II Reciever. Now I have to update my main stereo speakers and the center channel as well. I''''m probably going with some small JBL Floor Models. I am really impressed with the long term reliability of this old sub, and shocked to see that some of JBL''''s newer subs are not living up to this one. That''''s no good...
