Strength:

Loud sound for the price

Weakness:

Occasional bottoming out

I bought this sub in August and am very satisfied with it. I got a good deal off of some online retailer. I have it hooked up with a Liberty THX certified cable with y-adapter. It produces loud sound that is capable of vibrating the walls. My only complaint is that is sometimes bottoms out. This is most notable during Independece Day during the initial scenes with the spaceship flying by the moon. I wasn't plagued with the blown fuse problem until just the other day. I was watching Pearl Harbor in DTS and the fuse blew during the bombing scene. I simply replaced the 1.25A fuse with a 1.5A one and it has been working ever since.
If you want a good sounding sub that won't dent your pocket book, go for this sub.

Strength:

Decent amount of ouput, good for home theatre, quality pots for volume, crossover. Phase switch, speaker level in and outs. Good speaker protection- maybe too good (see below).

Weakness:

Very boomy, has a lot of overhang. Punchy in 40 hz region, but without a lot of extension. Port noise can be heard at high output levels. Also, as has been said before, if you crank it a fuse will blow. I replaced the fuse with one of a slightly higher value, but it still blows fuses when material with really low or loud frequencies are played.

I work for a dealer, and needed a sub with a lot of punch for a home theatre setup. Please do not ask me if I can buy one on accomodation for you. The answer is no. Anyway, it is a rather boomy sub, especially if you don't know how to set it up. It also eats fuses like popcorn on information with low frequency material if played loud. I popped the fuses on "Jurassic Lunch" off the Telarc DTS sampler disc, the opening sequence of Titan A.E., and on a 10-40 hz frequncy sweep played at movie theatre level. In retrospect, I should have gotten the Mirage FRXS12. Oh well; live and learn. It still pounds in my roughly 20 by 25 foot living room (8 foot celings). My room is fairly dead, with lots of carpet, furniture, and curtains, so the sub does have great output for HT. It just doesn't do justice to music, though. At $500 it's competitive, though the Mirage FRXS10 beats it by a decent margin, and the HSU Research VTF-2 absolutely destroys it at the same price point. I would like to score it better, but there really are better subs out there for the same price (and a little lower).

Strength:

Powerfull, and attractive, great bass, without falt rumbling

Weakness:

Have found none

I had just updated my speaker arrangement. Had (all Klipsch) KLF-10 mains, SSC1 center and SS1 surrounds, and got a great deal on KLF-30 mains and KLF-C7 center. I wanted to add a Sub for AV effects in movies. I had agonized over the KSW-15 or -12, was afraid that the -12 would have trouble showing through the big KLF-30's. No problem, this sub adds a great amount of low frequency effect that never over powers or under states what the sound engineers had in mind. I had originally intended to keep the Sub off when listening to audio only but have found that it is great in that arena as well. I had listened to other systems with subs that I found detracted from the overall audio quality, but I must admit, and this has been my biggest surprise, the sub actually enhances the overall listening pleasure. I now keep it in "Auto" mode instead of "Off" waiting for a movie. Being new to Subs and reading what I could about them I was concerned about my audio room's geometry for placement of the sub. I can't find a bad location for it; the sub works great no matter where I place it. I guess I am a Klipsch bigot, don't know much about many other speakers. But when you find products that stand up and deliver what you expect, why change?

Strength:

Price, Sound, Klipsch Name

Weakness:

None for the price

Get real, people who don't like this sub. For the price it simply can't be beat. This sub is tight and fast. It can shake your whole house if that's what you like. It works great for music and movies. It has the typical Klipsch high level of quality. It can stand it's own with subs priced much higher. The whole Klipsch setup is killer.

Strength:

Plenty of power for my room size.

Weakness:

The fuse! Explanation below

Let me add my voice to those whose sub blew a fuse for no reason. I've had my sub set up for the past 9 months and haven't touched it. While watching "Goldeneye" on Friday night, the sub cut out. I checked the fuse and it was blown. The next day I replaced it with a 1.5 amp 250 volt fuse (slow reaction, or whatever it's called) as suggested here, and it immediately blew.

I took it to Sound Advice yesterday. They said it was still under warranty but the factory would decide if it was a manufacturers defect or a power surge that screwed up the sub. Please! I've got it plugged into one of those $200.00 surge protectors that you use for computers, plus there was no storm the night the sub blew. If they tell me they won't fix it should I assume that Klipsh makes $500 subs to last less than one year? They'd better fix it because I can't afford to replace it right now, and a home theater without a sub-woofer is no home theater at all! I'm giving it 5 stars for its performance pre-fuse incident.

Strength:

Good Bass, flexible enough adjustment controls.

Weakness:

A little boomy and not as detailed or musical as I wuld like.

Built quality is good but nothing that stands out. This sub is more for movies than music where it seems to lack details, speed and overall clarity. It does a good job with explosions and simple percussion, bass is fairly rich and deep. I have no problem with this unit regarding farting noises, faulty fuses or bad switches (thank god!). It is overall a good sub for the money. I would to say also that a good cable will make the difference in audio quality, go for a monster or Acoustic research subwoofer cable, you won't regrate it.

Strength:

Great for home theater

Weakness:

Not quite as tight for music

This sub is great for home theater. Put in the DTS version of Saving Private Ryan and I thought artillery was falling in my living room. The bass is a litte loose with music so it takes some work. Over all I would recomend this sub for the price. System set up:

Polk CS245i center
Polk RT25i surrounds

Strength:

price

Weakness:

slow

For all the people glorifying this sub as the best thing since sliced bread......get real.

This is a good sub, and it is only as good as the price paid for it. Don't expect to get a $1K quality sub in the KSW-12. It definitely has it's limitations. If you are looking for a really awesome sub, wait for the new reference series subs, but expect to pay much more.

This is a bargain sub only. It will do the job OK, but it won't jarr the fillings out of your mouth. Be realistic with what you get for your money. This sub is nothing like the Klipsch subs used to be. I got mine for $200 used, and you really can't beat that. Can be had for around $300 on the net. If that is all you have for a sub, then this is probably the one.

Just a review to be more realistic. Oh boy...
