Strength:

Simple, Neat, Beautiful, easy to set up and adjust as needed.

Weakness:

None so far.

Santa brought me this wonderful gift for Christmas... unfortunately I had to wait until the stores opened Sunday to get a Subwoofer Cable to go with it, but it's plugged in now and WOW!... I love it!
I think my Home Theater Speaker set up was pretty good, NHT Front and Dipole Surrounds, Polk Center... but now with the KSW Sub... the effects never seemed so real.
I made my Christmas List based on the other reviews on this page and I have to say THANKS to everyone who took time to respond.
This is a great piece of gear that has really added depth to my system.
Thanks Santa, and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Strength:

DEEP STRONG BASS, GREAT RESPONCE TO MUSIC (KID ROCK) AND GUT POUND'IN FILL WHEN WATCHING DVD'S..

Weakness:

ummm... cant think of any. Wish it had a remote, thought this is not really a weakness because you have to spend 1,000.00 plus to find a sub with remote capabilities.

I had a really bad experence with another subwoofer about 3 months ago. It was the Acoustic Research 12". I hooked it up and was sick to my stomach.. My klipsch synergy 8" bookshelf speakers out hit and were twice as loud. I sold the sub and was very discourage about getting another sub due to the fact alot of people say how hard it is to get a sub in the right place to make it sound the best. I trusted my friend at a local audio/video store and also the reviews here at consumerreview about the klipsch ksw-12. Before I bought it though i went to circuitcity and listen to a velodyne ct-10. I was not impressed for the 429.00 price tag. PLus is had only a 2 year warr. I did not even listen to the klipsch and took it home and set it up in the same location (behide my bigscreen) and poped in the Matrix dvd and went to the scene where the helicopter is crashing into the building...;Oh my god what a rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (take in mine my living room is very open and has 12 ft ceilings) It filled the entire room with a bass and boom you can normally get when in a car. Needless to say I am 100% pleased with this sub far as qulality, and sound. And plus for 5 years the sub is covered and 2 years on the award winning amp. **** You cant go wrong with this sub**** Save up the extra cash and dont buy a cheaper line of sub..

Strength:

I have never heard performance like this in a sub this inexpensive. Crisp performer.

Weakness:

None for the price.

I recently purchased this sub for a HT system for a room in my house along with its matched friends RS3 RC3 and RF3 Klipch. I sat a long time wishing I had found this set up a long time ago. You will get HT sound comperable to a $5-6000 setup. What a deal. The sub is strong and crisp. As with any sub, placement is especially important for good results.

This is a great improvment from my old jbl pswd-12 which died on me.
I'm a 16 year old home theater nut just getting into hometheater.
I have heard good subs like the velodyne and heard a hsu at my friends they all compare to the klipsch.
The ksw-12 blends in verry well with my quintest.
I have owned this sub for over 2 months i wanted to write a review after i got to know the product and wait intell the woofer got worked in so i could see what the sub is capable of doing.
The klipsch does a great outstanding job for shaking the room and hearing those low frequency effects.
I just finished watching " GONE IN 60 SECONDS " the bass was outstanding i was shocked at the deep tight bass it was accurate in every bit.
If your thinking of buying a 5.1 speaker system go with the Klipsch KSW-12 for the sub and Klipsch Quintests for the 5 main speakers.
I got great sound with both movies and music.
I had a friend come over to watch " X-MEN " on Dolby Digital and he said it sounds like the local theaters ( trust me he has is own theater system he is no stranger to theater sound ) and he loved it.
I'm going to give this sub a 5 out of 5 for the great sound it provieds.
great job klipsch

Strength:

Great bass for movies.
Compliments the Quintets well when playing music

Weakness:

None so far.

Before I start I want to give some info for Eric regarding the fuse problem he is having. I E-Mailed Klipsch about the problem and received the following:
"There was a short run of KSW-12 that quick acting fuses were placed in. If you have a quickblow fuse in your subwoofer amp, simply replace it with a 1.5 amp 250 volt slow blow fuse. Radio Shack sells them catalog # 270-1022."
I hope this info helps.

Any way, I have this sub hooked up along with the Quintets
to a Yamaha RX-V1000 (Great HT receiver for the $$$). I gotta say this subwoofer really kicks for the bucks I paid.
I watched Independence Day and during the final explosion scene the house rocked. My children were playing in the basement and came running up because they got scared! My son couldn't believe the sound that this unit kicked out.
I didn't own this unit long enough to give my opinion on how well it puts out other sound effects but so far so good. Until I can afford a higher end sub woofer I will remain quite content with this one.

Strength:

It looks cool....um...i can't think of anything else

Weakness:

Blown fuse...(and i'm not the only one that has this problem, other people in the Klipsch forum have experience the same thing) Weak Bass!! WEAK!

I don't know what you people are thinking giving this sub a 5 star. Are we revewing the same sub here. I have gone through 3 klipsch ksw-12 because they've all have blown a fuse! I don't even turn them up that much. To add on top of that, the bass is weak as hell for something that has like what...400 watts.
anyway, If your reading this review, your obviously interested about the sub, i suggest you go to www.klipsch.com and check out the discussion forum. these are just reviews people give. But really...i recommend staying away from this sub. I have just gotten a new jbl pb-12 today, and that thing sounds a lot better...a lot more bass; however i only had it for one day, so we'll see if this one is capable of holding it's own in a month or so.

I just wanted to warn people about purchasing from crazyeddie.com. I placed an order for the KSW-12 sub, and SC-1 center channel on 2/16/01. Today is 2/27/01, and it still has not shipped. The service at crazyeddie is horrible! Be aware, product may not even ship from there two weeks after you place the order. This Friday it will be two weeks, and I still have not received either piece. I called today and the customer service guy told me that the center shipped "last night," and that I could still cancel the sub, "probably" (even though it has not shipped). I was very ticked off, and found the same or better prices at acoustisounddesign.com. Please email me if anyone else has had these issues with crazyeddie.com. Thank you.

Strength:

Impressive Output, Relatively Tight Sound

Weakness:

Poor Transient Response,

Home Theater can be QUITE impressive. Output can reach pretty high levels when it needs to. Also I cannot fault the quality of this unit in any way. First-rate work and components, I've found.

This is a ported sub, though. There is essentially zero output below 30hz, and driving it in this range only results in port noise. Transient response is pretty poor, I've found. It almost feels (sometimes) like bass hits are not quite in beat with the rest of the music.

For HT it gets 5 stars in both performance & for music I would give it a 3, but this is compared against subs costing almost twice as much. If your main speakers are fullrange towers, I'd leave the KSW-12 off for music.
