I found this sub for $399 +tax at DOW. This price can't be beat (I think). This is an excellent sub with enough power to shake any room. I have a small room and I must say that I couldn't be any happier with this sub. For the price, this is a great value.

I needed a sub to complement my kg5.5 and I found it in the ksw300. This sub shakes the walls and pounds the ground. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a sub with balls.

Bought the ksw 300 on closeout for $500. I think the sub sounds great. It is VERY powerful which is what I really was looking for. This thing shakes the hell out my house. It is a little boomy, and not very tight but it is a 15 inch sub. I bought an MK v120 and took it back because it was not powerful enough. It was the smoothest and most accurate sub I have heard though, but I wanted raw power and I found it in the ksw300. It goes very deep(subterranean) and I only have the level set at 3.5 out of 10 with the crossover at 70 hz. Other subs I have tried (MK, infinity, AR300, energy) all had the gain set at around 7-8 out of 10 and still did not provide the power that the 300 does. The finish and quality has fully met my expectations and I am very pleased with my purchase. No buzzing or hums to report either. No poor exterior finish as reported on other comments. The dealer I deal with has sold me all my klipsch speakers and they provide excellent customer service and back up all warrantees. I am very satisfied. I would also give the mk 5 stars but wanted POWER rather than accuracy, which I get from my front speakers (klipsch cf1).

Weakness:

Quality

Bought this sub back in June 99.It had a Hum noise at lower volume, after going thru all my connections, I figured it was the sub. Since it hummed even with nothing connected to it.So I sent it back to London Drugs (place purchased) They decided to send it to Klipshit for service. Now its Oct. and still, I have no sub. They have now decided to give my money back, or exchange and pay the difference for a new model Klipshit KSW300. I would have been happy if they gave me a staight exchange, since they made me wait so frickin' long.

For all you guys asking what is DOW and how to contact them, here it is: DOW is an audio/video retail store which I believe only operates in California, the telephone in one of the San Diego branches is (619)444-6177. I don't know if they would ship it to you though, but go ahead and give it a try. If you don't have any luck there, try AMSOUND.COM, UNCLESTEREO.COM, JANDR.COM, or The Sound Approach at 800-368-2344. Good hunting!

The Klipsch KSW-300 is a K-1061-K 15" base reflex tuned port enclosure sub. I run it off the LFE out on my Yamaha RX-V2095. My main and surround speakers are KLF-30's and I run the KLF-C7 center channel. I've had this subwoofer for a couple of months now and although I'm a huge Klipsch fan I'm not sure I would recommend this sub for most people.
I found the construction quality of the KSW-300 to be much less than what I've come to expect from Klipsch. (fiberboard construction laminated with black vinyl) The shipping box was not damaged, but the Klipsch logo on the front of the speaker was when I un-boxed it. The speaker overall has a cheap and cheezy finish in my opinion but is otherwise okay and at least it doesn't rattle or anything. I know--it's just cosmetic, but my past experiences with Klipsch speakers have spoiled me. Shame on you for producing a "mass-market sell em at Circuit City" quality speaker enclosure Klipsch!

I have found it necessary to constantly adjust the volume and low pass crossover of the speaker to make it sound right depending on what I'm listening to. I'm sure that the downfiring tuned port design is to blame, but there is noticible "lag" when listening to audio cds on my system. I've also noticed that when listening to music, the bass often sounds muddy and is not well enough defined or tight enough to suit me.

The KSW-300 does do an awesome job on LFE effects when listening to a Dolby Digital 5.1 or a DTS DVD. It definately produces earthshaking, bone-rattling, base--the kind that you feel in your chest while it rattles your teeth. I can feel the ground shake on my concrete floor during special effects and it rattles the gutters on the outside of my house.

In a nutshell, I'm glad that my stereo store has an upgrade policy on speakers because I am not entirely satisfied with the balance of this sub for audio and home theatre applications. If your main purpose for this speaker is home theatre, then I would say it's a great choice, but if you enjoy audio AND home theatre equally, it's probablly not the best solution. Personally, I am going to seriously consider upgrading to a subwoofer more balanced to my listening needs.

I would rate this sub at 5 stars for LFE effects for home theatre and 3 stars for audio applications rounding it out to a 4 star rating overall.

Purchased a KSW-300 from DOW for $399 at closeout cost. Other's have paid as much as $1000. Well worth the money but the quality was suspect as reported throughout the reviews, but the customer support (cs) was absolutely great. The unit would hum (loudly!!!) at times due to an intermittant power relay on the main amplifier board. I call cs and they sent a new power amp input module out to me that arrived in three days from the call. As far as the sound, it's a little touchy to set up subwoofer. After a little tweaking, I found a good place. I especially like the high pass (hp) filter which is used to strip the lows from the preamp output. The final settings for my room (12 x 20) are 80hz for the lp and hp filters. The amp is set at about "4" which balances nicely with the room acoustics. As far as ratings, I'd give it a 3.5 for construction quality, a 5 for customer support and a 4 for sound quality which gives a "4".
