Strength:

Sounded alright while it lasted

Weakness:

The sub blewout right after the warranty expired. After a phone call to Klipsch, they told me there was nothing that could be done, unless i wanted to pay for the repairs.

The subwoofer sounded alright, but then, after my warranty expired, the sub "popped" and quite working. Now I find out that Klipsch quite manufacturing them for "unclear reasons" well I think that I just figured those reasons out.

Strength:

Well setup control panel although you WILL need to read the instruction manual to use it properly. Musical, very nice looking, I really love this sub.

Weakness:

The obvious problems listed in some of the reviews, other than that none.

I'm writing this to balance the average because those whose units failed are not writing about the quality, they are writing about the failure.
Firstly, let me say that I deal in electronics so I've had the opportunity to listen to 10 or so of these subs. In those 10 or so I ran into pretty much all of the problems listed below and have had to deal with Klipsch on the affected units. I believe 2 or 3 out of the 10 we bought were affected.
Most who've done their homework already know production was stopped because of the air leaks on may of the units, and because there was a problem with the surrounds on many of the units being uneven which will cause the unit to clip badly.
The good news is that there really is no risk in buying one because if you receive an affected unit Klipsch will completely restore the unit to perfection provided you've purchased it with a valid warranty.
And when you do have a properly working unit that's exactly what you have, perfection.
You really must fiddle with the settings quite a bit to find your own "utopia" but rest assured, with the infinate adjustability of the unit you will find it.
It is quite fast although not as fast as the MA ASW's. Actually a perfect match for my Tannoy S10's. I use two of the units with splitters on L & R so that I have two seperate channels for audio listening. Not that the Tannoys really NEED a sub, they travel do to 29Hz. But the LF-10 has brought the sound to a new level. One I got the X-over frequencies dialed in the lf-10 completely dissapeared and at this point you can't tell where the Tannoys end and the
LF-10's begin.
Very tight, controlled output. Music is better, movies are better.
Don't even think about comparing this with Paradigm or Velodyn or even Klipsh's KSW line. It is completely in another class.
Definately worth the asking price which I believe is $1399 but an absolute STEAL at the current rates I've seen it at.
I could own any sub I want (although I refuse to spend more than $3000 for a sub) and I choose this wonderful unit.
Buy it from an authorized dealer and don't have any worries except that maybe you'll have a short wait for the fixing of an affected unit. Well worth it, though.
There are inputs on the unit for left and right stereo feed and also the sub output from you HT decoder.

Strength:

Deep, tight and accurate bass response. Small footprint.

Weakness:

Auto On/Off not sensitive enough.

I listen to movies more than music but this subwoofer does wonders for both.

Back in November, when I bought it, I had no idea it was discontinued. I have had no problems with mine and it works perfectly.

The subwoofer can reach down further than any subwoofer I have heard. It's dual 10" passive radiators allow the speaker to breath like a ported speaker but also allow it to sound more like an acoustic suspension speaker. This combinations allows for the small cabinet and tight bass that is not boomy.

The bass that it produces is not loud, but it is very deep. I sometimes miss having the bass overwhelm all other sounds. In all, it matches perfectly with all my speakers and I am very satisfied with its performance.

If you want to experience deep bass with this sub:
Play the intro and ice chase scene from Titan A.E.

Strength:

Extremely dispersive sound field, almost perfect sound reproduction, good connection and tweaking options

Weakness:

doesnt pack as much of a punch as you would think for 1650watts (unless this is a power conditioning problem)

I really only have one complaint with this sub, and that is that it seems to soak up a lot of power. I am currently living in a dorm, so I dont think this is running at full power because when it is plugged in, my amp can only run at 3/4 full power.
Otherwise, it is a thing to behold. High quality subs should never be overlooked. There is really something magic about a system when it can accurately reproduce sounds in the lower spectrum. This sub is amazing with music, no punchy bass at all. DVDs are amazing too. I still have to break it in a little more, but really, this is the best sub for the money (at ubid) by far and away. The three driver design is by far the best I have ever heard. I owned one of the first bi-polar subs (mirage bp-100) a couple of years ago, and this far surpasses it.

Strength:

Customer service

Weakness:

Numerous defects

I love this company.

I'm amending my post below. On top of all those problems I already listed, my amp fried. About 3 weeks ago, I was pumping a 22 Hz test tone at high volume and a transformer on the power supply, along with the fuse, blew.

I was pretty annoyed at this time, so I contacted Klipsch and lined up a replacement unit. I sent mine in and received a new one in less then 2 weeks (I was pleased with the speedy service this time). When I looked at the new unit, I could tell they had improved it. The seals around the conectors and knobs were better, and the power supply (I think) was beefed up. What kind of company improves a product they just discontinued? A great company like Klipsch, of course.

Anyway, I got it up and running, this time there were no air leaks and the amp was noticeably improved. I played the same test tone at the same level with no audible distortion, just
wall-shaking bass. Furthermore, with my first amp, plugging the connections into it always resulted in popping noises. The new amp exhibits none of this.

I don't know if Klipsch redesigned the amp, or improved it, maybe my first amp was defective, but the replacement I got is a definite improvement.

The more I listen to my sub now, the more I like it. I haven't owned a sub as musical as this one, and the difference in some (not most though) music is astounding.

Anyway, since I have received about 2 LF-10's worth of parts for half the price of one LF-10, I'm upping my review to 5 stars.

Strength:

Very clean and musical

Weakness:

originally $1400. discontinued for unclear reasons.

This is an excellent sub, I know there were production problems but Klipsch has stood behind them and fixed them according to consumers on the Klipsch site (mine worked perfectly right out of the box). Klipsch claims they feel they discontinued them because they can "do better". Rumer has it that there were some patent infringement problems. I bought one for around $489. and liked it so much, I bought another for $469. from Ubid (some got them for even less. They work very well with my K-horns ... I tried other Klipsch subs (see above) and while they were dramatic; they were not clean enough to complement the very clean Khorns. These add lower frequencies and added umph in a very transparent way. I do have to turn them almost all the way up because the Khorns are at the top of the effeciency scale while these seem to be way down the scale, so the low wattage signal that produces deafining levels from the Khorn hardly excites these subs. The combination of speaker level inputs and LFE inputs when I play movies works well but is not as jarring and room rattling as the other Klipsch subs. However, since the distortion level is low I get great sound for music and cleaner, if less dramatic, explosions from movies. Since I use the other subs with the original (now discontinued) Klipsch THX system, I have the best of both worlds. I am looking forward to see what Klipsch replaces this sub with, but I can not imagine spending $3000 or more to replace these, I just can not beleive they would be that much better.
