This subwoofer does not impress. It is incredibly boomy, and lacks fidelity.
The fake THX re-EQ, and lack of crossover tuning makes it hard to match to any system. It is constructed fairly well, but the wire grill makes it look like a $50 speaker. Look at the MX-105 if you NEED a cheap M&K, otherwise save for one of their nicer models.

This sub is supposed to be part of a budget theater package, but many dealers are selling it seperatly. The THX logo might sell a few of these subs for them, but the sound sure won't.

I don't know where the last reviewer came up with the R-EQ think, this sub nor anyother sub I have seen has such a think only in proccessors.

For the price this sub is quite good. And as far as being boomy, you can make any sub boomy if you don't locate it right. It is very detailed and articulate, and smoth, with hi dynamics. Good on music and movies.

It has a fixed crossover at 80hz or a bypass so you can use a proccessers internal crossover system, has phase switch and gain knob.

HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A SUB FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BECAUSE I SOLD MY HOME THEATHER SPEAKERS SYSTEM TO UPGRADE MY SPEAKERS. I AM USING MAGNAPAN 1.6 QR'S FOR FRONT SPEAKERS AND 10.1 QR'S AS SURROUNDS. I HAVE BEEN AUDITION SUBS FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. MY 1.6 QR'S DELIVER VERY TIGHT AND PRECISE BASE DOWN TO ABOUT 40 HZ AND FINDING A SUB THAT CAN SMOOTHLY BLEND WITH THEM IS DIFFICULT. I HAVE BEEN USING A SOUND PRESSURE METER AND A 20 HZ TO 150 HZ SINE SWEEP TEST CD TO CHECK PERFORMANCE WITH THE SUB'S BEING PLACED IN THE CENTER OF THE DEALERS FLOOR. I FOUND THE VANDERSTEIN 2WR TO BE THE TIGHTEST AND QUICKEST SUB, INCREDIBLE ON MUSIC BUT LACKING ON EFFECTS. IN MY TESTING I FOUND THE MK 1250 THX AT A LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR DELIVERED NEARLY THE SAME PERFORMANCE AS THE VANDERSTEIN AT 500 DOLLARS LESS. THE DEALER HAD A 30 DAY RETURN POLICY, ENOUGH TIME TO BREAK IT IN AND EXPERIMENT HEAVILY. AFTER ABOUT 50 HRS THE 1250 BEGINS TO SHOW IT'S POTENTIAL. I FOUND THE CORRECT ROOM POSITION AND KNOW NOW I WILL NOT RETURN IT. I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE THE BLACK LAQUER MODEL FOR 728.00 WHICH RETAILS FOR 1050.00. I AM EXTREMLY HAPPY WITH THIS PURCHASE.
