Strength:
Seperate sub and amp boxes, easily adjusted sensitivity level control, and downright good looks.
Weakness:
I have no complaints Before I review, I have to say I have the SW2p not the i version. But, I have heared the i model and say it's about the same, without hearing the wind from my model at high levels because of the flared port. Similar Products Used: Monitor Audio, M and K, NEAR etc. |

I'm looking for a subwoofer to buy and came across the NHT SW2Pi, which would be a fine match with my NHT2.5i speakers. I've listened to it and it sound great. I'd like to use it for my home theatre rather than for listen to music. My NHT 2.5i produces beautiful solid bass for listening to music, need a bit for for movies. Hoping that someone out there knows about this model and give me some advice on it. Or other equivalent sub. Retail price in Australia for NHT SW2Pi is about $1000 USD. |

This is a great sub!!!! I have a pair of SuperOne's, Mit cable, and a simple home theather Yamaha amp.(I know I should have went two channel). I bought it after bringing the One's home with me. I needed some feeling added to my music. Yet I hated some of the cheaper subs because they couldn't keep up. I can not stand slow sloppy bass. So I spend the loot and got what I needed. A tight, fast smile-producing moster of a sub. I even paid retail. |

Strength:
Smooth, musical bass at an affordable price. I thought I'd wait to spring this sub on my wife when I hooked up the rest of the HT. Well the TV's not in yet so I decided to hook up the SW2Pi and play just CD's. This sub blends seamlessly with my Paradigm Minimonitors and the sound is just outstanding! It can still be found for less than $500 although it has been replaced. I've decided that running the speaker setting at "full" and using the |

Strength:
Terrific finish, tight bass.
Weakness:
Big box for a 10" driver sub I actually have the SW2Si which is the unpowered version of the 2Pi. No one sell passive subs anymore, I guess they don't make money out of you if they don't bundle the electronics. Am glad NHT still does, and I just love NHT's plain cube and shinny finish. Other subs I've looked at are weird shaped and/or cheaply finished. For some reason, I feel a sub must be square with sharp corners, don't ask me why. Don't feel the same way for the mains though. Also, other subs populate the rear panel with large knobs and binding posts, some even have them on the side! really messing up the aesthetic of the box. OK if you stuck it in a corner then you wouldn't care but most want it out a bit so you can reach back and work the knob(s). Another advantage of the the NHT design is what the controls are external to the box so you don't need to bother to reach back there. Back to why I wanted it passive. When I upgraded my stereo to HT, I already had a very nice AudioSource, slim stereo amp, which I liked very much, sonically and aesthetically, so all I did was to purchase two more stereo amps to drive the rears, then the center and the sub. See I don't need no powered sub, and all my amps match. Similar Products Used: none |

SW 2's are solid music subs, and do an adequate job with home theater. Beautiful finish on speaker enclosure.with a seperate amplifier, which can be placed on top of the speaker or on a rack.Very accurate musically. A good choice for non-rich consumers, who have audiophile tendencies. |

Strength:
Excellent integration with NHT Super Zeros, flexibilty of setup using the NH-1 dedicated amp.
Weakness:
Really more of a woofer than a sub-woofer. This was my first experience with using a separate sub woofer in my system but, as I haven't felt the need to make a change in the past six years, I guess you could call me a satisfied customer. The low end of the frequency range is 20 hz, so I wouldn't call it a true sub-woofer. I also wouldn't be too concerned about what to call it, because it sounds great! Paired with the NHT Super Zeros, it creates a full range speaker system that handles every type of music fed to it. |

Strength:
Clear, articulate bass. Fills the room well (not loud bass, but *warm* bass).
Weakness:
Is not the loudest unit, but you couldn't tell unless you have your bass set to WAY overpower your other frequency ranges (sorry rappers). I have had this set for a few years, combining a NHT SW2Pi with a set of NHT 1.5 bookshelfs. It blends perfectly, making an awesome, articulate system for music listening. Together they make a very clear, warm sound. I have had better sound with the RCA inputs than with the speaker-level inputs. I have the sub's amp wired inbetween the pre-out and main-in jacks on my Yamaha integrated amp. Crossover action in the sub's amp keeps my regular amp from having to work to reproduce the low frequencies that I don't want my bookshelf speakers handling anyway. Have not used them for home theatre, but feel the SW2Pi would be right at home. I had considered Bose & some of the other department store brands prior, but would never make that mistake again! Strength:
Excellent Tight bass for music. Beautiful finish
Weakness:
Good but not bone shattering bass for home theater Excellent compromise for someone who wants more than just bone shattering bass for HT. More than sufficient bass for HT and EXCELLENT, tight, music bass for music. Quality, finish excellent. |
