SEEMED MUDDY LACKED TIGHT BASS I FOUND THAT ADDING SOME POLYFILL ABOUT 1/4 OF THE CABINET AND PLACING THE UNIT ON A 12X12 CERAMIC TILE INSTEAD OF DIRECTLY ON THE CARPET SINCE IT HAS THE PORT IN THE BOTTOM Similar Products Used: NONE |

An over-priced clean performer that really lacks the very low-end punch that a sub should deliver. It is pretty fast and should be called a power woofer instead. It will help most bookshelves all mini-monitors and not very many towers outside of the BOSE lineup. Save your money and buy a real sub unless you just want something for either temporary use or use in conjuction with a fourth order crossover and a real sub for the lower octave. Remember if you buy this on sale you can save a $100. There are worse subs, but those are usually passive or used on computer sub/sat combos and this could at best be used for bedroom theater or excellent for the computer. One star for normal price and two star when on sale. It's just amazing that my AudioSource SW8 or even my Optimus SW-14P can outperform this and they both cost together cheaper than this. |

Strength:
It is reliable so far. Match my speaker nicely using the connection mentioned below.
Weakness:
Takes me a long time to find the best set up for music. It is doing fine for HT. However, I had the same muddy sound problem for music for as long as I own it. I finally was able to get it musical enough to actually like it. Basically I connected my left and right front preout of my AV receiver to the left and right low level input of the sub (two separate connection to the sub). Now, the sub really match nicely with my front speakers, not muddy anymore. I love how the bass sounds now: tight and responsive. Also, the sub has became transperent, the deep bass is not coming just from one place anymore. No complaint for music. However, since I do not have a sub connect to the LEF anymore, I ended up using pro-logic setting instead of 5.1 setting for my HT. Can't commend on the performance in HT for the new setting yet, but I will run a few test later. For a low budget system, I give it a 4 star for music using the connection I just mentioned. By the way, if I don't like the HT sound, I may get the Sony SA-WM40 for LEF connection. What can I say, I am very budget minded. : ) Similar Products Used: Passive KLH sub. |

Lacks the crisp punch you really want for music. Bought a new pair of JBL HLS-820s for the hts and thought a sub would polish the sound a little. stumbled across this one on sale as a display model. How could I go wrong for $120? AT first was ready to take it back b/c of the muddy response on music. Thought the bass from the JBL's was tighter and deep enough not to sacrifice sound quality for the sake of rumble noises. However, the sub does fill in the bass on movies/TV nicely if if turned down. Now I have to decide if I really want to keep it just for the sake of the occasional weekend movie. The features are nice for a sub that you can find in this ridiculous price range of $150 and under. Hope I can find the right placement to get some punch for CD's. At this price I recommend taking one home and seeing for yourself what it will add or subtract to your system. Radioshack's 30 day return policy makes this an offer you can't afford to pass up. |
