Strength:

good definition w/ music

Weakness:

won't go extremely low for movies

I use 2 pdr-12s for my music/ ht room for a more uniform low frequency field. Although a single pdr-12 placed in between my fronts would've been more than sufficient, the jumbo toshiba rptv precludes such placement.

This model shines when used as a 80 hz and below filler for bookshelves. Tight, fast bass. If, like myself, your primary concern is music (esp. acoustic jazz), this sub's a sure thing. If all you care about is finding out just how many loose objects are in the room while watching terminator 2, you may be disappointed. I, however, find it more than sufficient for movies.

When using the "small" setting (as you should) for your fronts on a surround reciever which has a filtered sub-out, don't simply turn the sub's x-over all the way over to 150 hz to get it out of the way of the reciever/processor's filter; you are wasting some of it's low-end. Turn it far enough to get out of the filter's way w/out sacrificing the low-end; I find that 100-120 hz setting to work well.

Strength:

Rich and Clean High and low bass.

Weakness:

None

This sub is great! For the money you can't go wrong. I listened to all types of subs, such as, Klipsch, Phase Tech, Velodyne, and Polk. None of these compared to Paradigm. I started with the PDR 10, it was a great sub, I just have a larger room and wanted deeper bass, so I took back the PDR 10 and purchased the PDR 12. It was perfect, it had the same rich sound as the PDR 10, but gave me deeper bass, which I love. I listen to a lot of jazz and rock music, the PDR 12 is perfect. It matches up perfectly with my Paradigm Monitor 3,(front) and mini monitors (rear). I would not trade this sub for anything!! Great Job Paradigm!!!

Strength:

Good for music, great price.

Weakness:

A bit weak for HT. Large footprint.

Bought this sub on an impulse - thankfully, it was a good buy. Got it for about $300 on a shifting out sale.

I listen to about 80% music and 20% HT and this sub plays very well for music. This sub is used together with Aegis Ones, Centre and Compact.

It does seem a little "weak" for HT if you like slam bang action.

I've set the cutover frequency to about 70Hz, as I don't want it to kick in too much when I play music. Maybe, if I set it higher, HT performance might improve.

One little dislike is it's large footprint. Measures about 15" by 19" and stands about 17" tall, it does look a bit out of place in my little living room. But then I guess most 12" subs would probably be about that size.

Front firing and has ports from the back. The heat sink never gets hot even after a round of Matrix at high volume.

The auto-on switch kicks in very quickly but it takes about 20 minutes for the auto-off to activate.

Overall, it's a very good sub for music, does OK for HT, but if your primary application is HT, then maybe you should look around a bit more.

Strength:

Very Musical, greeat price

Weakness:

I'd like if it had a little more power

I bought this sub from a local audio dealer who had taken it in on a trade for $295. It was a great bargain and I'm very pleased with the way that this sub sounds. I was primarily interested in music and I am amazed at how well this baby integrates with my system. The bass is nice and tight and can be controlled very easily. At first, I thought that it was a little weak for home theater but after I had played around with it for a little while I realized that all I had to do was to increase the gain control a bit past half way and I could get more than enough to shake my moderately sized living room. I would readily recommend this sub to anyone who was looking for a musical sub that also will do a good job for HT.
My system:
Yamaha RXV 595
Paradigm Reference Studio 40 v.2
Paradigm PDR12 subwoofer
Rotel RCD 971 cd player
MIT Terminator 2 interconnects
Tara Labs Prism 2 Bi-wire speaker cables
Some cheap Zenith VCR

Strength:

Deep Low Bass with no cut off , excellent for dynamic movie audio

Weakness:

Lacks performance when it comes to fast moving thumping high frequency bass (ie rave songs)

The PDR-12 is a great sub for the dollar, one of the best around. It provides excellent bass response for movies, especially dvd audio, but lacks the performance when it comes to high frequency response. Its good for music, but theres a lot better, but its one of the best in its class for movies. I didnt pay a lot for it, and i got a lot more than i paid for, but then there is a lot of ones around that are much better for the dollar (ie velodyne). It is a very good overall sub-woofer for you system.
