Strength:

Little orange light that tells you the unit is on. Not "fat" bass, but punchy and accurate. Great value and small size.

Weakness:

No auto on/off. Not for large rooms.

I've now used the PDR-8 for 7 months. I highly recommend this sub for apartments or small-to-medium living rooms. This sub works absolutely fabulously with home theatre and music. I've read posts here that complain of a "hum", but I have not experienced anything of the sort (even wtih my ear right next to it). These hums can be caused other electrical interference, power source, or an inadequate amplifier. I would have liked an auto on/off capability, but it's not really that big of a deal.

Strength:

Very accurate. Strong bass. Tiny unit.

Weakness:

No Removable grill!

This works really well with my titans. It is a very small sub that shakes the walls pretty good. I was impressed with how much bass this little sub produced.

Strength:

Small, strong clean bass, image.

Weakness:

Not that i know of.

A friend of mine had his PDR8 for about 3 months now. Every time I come over and listen to music and watched movies, it sounded amazing. I couldn’t believe a little sub can put out so much bass. Anyhow, he decided to upgrade his sub with a PDR-12 and sold his sub to me for $150. So far I had this sub for about 2 1/2 month now and I’m still in love with it. For $150, who wouldn’t? So far my set up:
Denon AVR3801
Sony DVP S560
Paradigm Titans V1
Paradigm CC-170
Paradigm PDR-8
Paradigm ADP-170

All in all I’m overall happy with the sub. Future upgrade goes for speakers:
Paradigm MiniMonitor V3
Paradigm CC-370
Paradigm PS-1000
Paradigm ADP-170

I recommend anything from Paradigm. Price is unbelievable and well balanced quality

Strength:

Rumbling Bass, High quality materials used and xcellent finish

Weakness:

The voice coil bottoms out easily if listening to music with heavy bass. No standby/power off function.

My system consists off: Aiwa XA-008 Power amplifier, a pair of Eltax Silverstone 160 bookshelf speakers, a pair of Eltax Liberty 5+ floorstanding speakers and a homemade 15" passive subwoofer with eminence driver.
My 15" sub produces most of the bass, but only at high levels, and only in one part of the room, so i thought i would add a small subwoofer to the opposite side of the room and hopefully get bass that would be more spread out. The kind of bass i was looking for was rumbling bass. I found that my expectations were met when i first tried the PDR8, the floor shook and my door rattled, exactly what i was looking for!
So, overall i am ovally pleased with this sub, but dont expect to hook it up and get thundering bass, i think you would need one higher up in the range for that, or maybe even two PDR8's.

Strength:

tight bass, price

i just got these to go w/ my nht super 2's in my listening room. i love this puppy! really nice tight bass. like all subs, placement is very critical. it is used mainly for stereo listening. payed $135 thru ebay. can't really complained.

if it is placed away from corners, your'll get really nice musical bass. you have to turned it up a bit to get some thump.

if you have a small-mid sized room and nice tight bass for both ht and stereo listning, you can't go wrong the pdr-8. not to mention it can be had ~200-250 new.

Strength:

Affordable high quality speaker (just like all paradigm products)

Weakness:

no complaints from me!

Got this from local hifi place for $280 US.. don't know about you guys finding it for $200, that would have been great! Still, it was worth the price... guess I'll have to lay off those canadian jokes for a while...

Use it with my paradigm atoms, and I love the way it fills out the sounds in everything. Produces ground-shaking, spine tingling bass that still gives me shivers. I know this is a puny sub in comparison to a lot of whats out there, but I've got fairly sensitive hearing, so its enough for me (and my budget!)

Weakness:

grill wont come off--buzz

3rd and final review of this sub--after a week i saw 6th ave selling the pdr 10 for 50.00 more--i went for it- the 10 has auto on and off--and the sound was fuller--and no buzz lol--dont get me wrong--the 8 is a great sub--but the 10 :) is much better when you hear it in the home--good luck--if you can get the 10 at 350.00 go for it--reg price was 450.-- and the 10 i got was new--and that buzz is audible--like a reviewer said--depends on how neurotic you are--but in todays hi fi it shouldnt even exist -a tip--i have installed the sub in a utility cabinet--between 2 main spkrs--getting to level control on the back was a real pain--since sides of cabinet were in black cardboard i tacked on to hide wires-i used double sided tape to tape a straw to the level knob--sticks up behind the sub for easy settings--dont have to pull sub in and out of cabinet to make adjustments--use your imagination lol--i just have to remove the cardboard piece going across the top of the sub-move straw left or right lol works like a charm- cardboard only lays ther anyway--happy hunting

Picking a sub really depends upon your main speakers and your listening style. This sub is perfect for me.

It is very accurate and does an excellent job of blending with my system. In my opinion, every sub in the paradigm line is excellent. To decide which one is best for you, you MUST LISTEN TO THEM! A sub is subject to personal preferance more than any other speaker in a HT setup.
