Strength:

Excellent Sound

At the time when I was deciding which subwoofer to get, I compared this PSW120 with an Infinity and Boston and some others. Polk was $300, and the others ranges from $250 to $400. PSW 120 sounds the best! The bass is not muddy like the others. It is loud enough for my 10x10' room, and matches my pair of German Canton bookshelf speakers pretty well.

great little subwoofer for the price. i cant compare it to anything i own, but it sounds better than my brothers infinity 10" sub. i am very pleased with it and it sounds even better after i added the monster cable sub connect. i also have polk rt 25 and cs 245...i beleive that polk really does make some of the best affordable speakers that sound great.

Strength:

punchiness, lack of distortion, options, low-extension bass for its smaller size

Weakness:

not best for big rooms

I've had this subwoofer since I was in high school, and I'm a junior in college now. It's never disappointed me. In fact, I bought a second one just this year; now I have one in my dad's apartment Sony/Bose home theater and one in my dorm Marantz music system. I listen to music mostly, but it works amazingly well in that home theater. I just ordered a Polk PSW450 sub for the home theater because I want one PSW120 for each channel of my music system. I highly recommend this subwoofer if you want versatility combined with accurate and musical bass, especially in a smaller environment. You will have to get one used, though, because I don't think they make them anymore.

Strength:

price, size

Weakness:

none so far!

as much as I loved my Polk RT800's, there was something missing. And it was the deep, tight bass that this little sub provides. What a gem.....listened to "Dark Side of the Moon" this evening and it was a total revelation.

Strength:

Very small, punchy, musical, fairly deep

Weakness:

Not extremely loud, thats about it though

I had been using a radio shack passive sub for awhile, but realized that the extremely high crossover on it was hurting the sound quality. I did a search for cheap powered subs (under 200) and found this sub. The first thing that amazed me was how small it was! it will fit anywhere, in any room. at first when i saw it, i couldnt believe that it could possibly sound good but it does. the bass is not overwhelming, but is musical, clean, and deep. it is rated down to 40hz, but like most polk products, this rating is conservative. i would guess it extends down to about 32. it is certainly great for my use (in a small bedroom). the most amazing thing to me is how little difference there is between it and the two mtx 12" subs in my car. the only real difference is the real deep bass is missing (below 30) and it wont break any windows. still though, the sound is clean, musical, and very accurate. on most music, i dont think you coudl tell the difference between it and more expensive subs. for the money (i paid 180) it cant be beat.

Strength:

Quality of sound

Weakness:

Volume

I have this on loan from a friend. It's hooked up to an old JVC pro-logic reciever that runs 70W per side, if you can believe the manual. The mains are Klipsch KG3's. At significant volume, the sub all but disappears. This is not a sub for large rooms or pairings with efficient speakers. Fortunately, I didn't pay for mine but it gave me insight into what a sub can dimensionally add to your sound system. I will be looking into a more substantial sub that can hang with my Klipsch's
