Will blast you on the floor

This ‘woofer’ can woof! My goodness. It not only looks great but it sounds even better. I went for the PSW450 over the PSW350 for 3 reasons. 1) it was only 100 bucks more (are you really going to miss 100 bucks anyway?) 2) I read that the PSW350 had some buzzing noise when in the stand-by mode 3) it hits deeper and has more power. I live in an apartment and this sub is way too powerful for the room that it’s in but then again, I’m not going to live in an apartment forever (and that may come sooner than I want because your neighbors WILL hear this sub do its thang—especially in an apartment type setting). It’s nice to know that once I have a bigger room I’ll still be able to get my rumble on. I’ve got the sub volume set only ¼ of the way up and even when my receiver volume is low the bass still punches my face off. The low-pass and phase switch are nice for customizing your bass preferences. I’ve got this sub matched up with the Polk 6600 sat/speaker system and it fits together very nicely, the sound is amazing and all encompassing. With this sub you really FEEL the bass instead of hearing it. It doesn’t really ‘punch’ like most towers do, rather it fills the room with a clear rumble that sounds great. If you want the ‘punch’ just turn the sub’s volume up some, either way you’ll still get bass that’s deep and tight (which is the most important part of bass). The setup manual could have been better. All in all, this sub will do wonders for your system.

Strength:

Tight deep bass, both jazzy and can hit

Weakness:

None for what it is and cost

I have had this sub about a week now and am very happy with the purchase. It was an open box buy at the GoodGuys. I am using it with a small pair of Energy bookshelf speakers and it sounds great. I would recomend this sub to anyone, even at its full price.

Strength:

Seamless compatibility with other Polk speakers, tight, responsive bass

Weakness:

Volume control is touchy, power switch label is confusing, manual is, well, an afterthought

So I start with a crappy unresponsive unsupported no-name 12 subwoofer knockoff from Taiwan and upgraded to this gem. And went from teeth jarring mush sounding bass to a fine, crisp, mid-low with smooth transitions (off only a few dB by my pressure meter to about 40dB). And compatiblity with the RT1000ps, the CS400 and the F/X 500i surround speakers makes this a wonderful last page in my HT chapter. This sub just disappeared into the sonic field during a DTS demo. On? Not on? Couldn't tell and couldn't be happier. Got the phasing right, right out of the box, though the volume control is very touchy...just a nibble increased pressure level by 5dB...a lot. I just used the LFE port so no info on the filtered inputs. This unit is very heavy and well made but don't put the hamster cage on it.....And don't look to the manual for help and Polk did such a nice job on the other manuals. More please? Oh and had to write Polk about the power switch that was probably set right from the factory but the labeling is confusing...once again, interface as after thought. Still, you set it once and forget it (unless the six-year old is near) so I highly recommend this one.

Strength:

Very Hard Hitting. Sounds great with Music and HT.

Weakness:

Can overpower the rest of your system.

I auditioned tons and tons of subs.. everything from infinity to paradigm to Klipsh. This sub sounded just as good as the paradigm, and I got it for $100 cheaper. This sub seriously rocks the whole house. Great for music, and even better for movies.

Current setup -

Harman Kardon AVR310
Polk 55i (Front)
CS400i (Center)
polk ab710 (rears)(Wouldn't recommend)
Polk PSW450

Strength:

Very clean bass. I went in the store with many samples of bass. The polk outperformed everything in its price range.

Weakness:

The heat sink on the amp is warm in the "auto" position even after 24 hours of no signal. My spouse keeps complaining that I shake the whole house.

The polk sub was by far the cleanest bass of all that I sampled, even when it was fed a very sloppy signal!

Strength:

Extemely clean, powerful base...

Weakness:

ZERO, NONE, NICHT

I puchased the psw450 (as a matter of fact I liked the first one so much that a week later I went and bought another one) almost a year ago and this thing has to have the cleanest sounding bass I've ever heard....From movies to music it doesn't matter...It produces a bass that is very vibrant and you can FEEL the energy even at low volume levels and at the same time remains EXTREMELY clean....On the back of the sub is a volume adjustment and I leave it only a quarter up from zero and that's more than what need....Not only does it sound good, it's a high quality item....The psw 450 has to be the VERY Best sub I've had the pleasure to listen to......BUY THIS SUB and ENJOY...
AWSOME

Strength:

It delivers! + very versatile.

Weakness:

The Earthquake Vortex center does not like me now.

My front pair of POLK SDA-2 have a 10" woofer and played
great deep bass ...but DTS/Dolby Digital had me wanting
more. The PSW-450 plays deep, real deep. Test tones proved
35 Hz played VERY well. You don't hear it you FEEL it!
Fantastic sound and quality.
+++ A BEST BUY +++

Strength:

Incredibly hard hitting, can be pushed to the limit

Weakness:

None!!!

This sub is great...I'm a college student, so it's been put through the tests in the 2 weeks i've had it, and it's dealt with them effortlessly. I bought this with the intention of listening at low to moderate volumes at very high quality, however, this sounds immaculate even at its top end. Go for it!

Strength:

Great sound, many setup options, many adjustments can be made to suit your taste.

Weakness:

No weaknesses, except that you may get evicted if you play it too loud.

This subwoofer is fabulous. The adjustments allow you to do use it to provide a very musical "background bass" or kick it up and shake the floor. At whatever your listening level, this unit will provide great, natural sounding bass.

If you like to bi-amp, the setup is good, as it has a filter on it to allow the subwoofer to prevent ultra-low frequencies from going to your speakers, which improves the sound of your main speakers. The psw-350 doesn't have this, although the 350 sounds good as well.

I am really impressed with the overall quality and sound of this unit. I don't usually rave about products, but this one deserves it, especially since it costs just a little over $200 when buy a set of Polk speakers over a certain amount (I think over $500).

The regular price on this subwoofer is about $450, and it would be a bargain at that price. It sounds as good as units costing double that.

I have not noticed the interference problem mentioned by one of the other reviewers, but that may because my setup allows me to isolate the cables to my components away from the unit. If there's a better sub for the money, I'd like to know about it, because I don't think it is out there.

Strength:

Great sub for the money.Tight clean response. Can blend for music.

Weakness:

Hard to setup for music and movies.Won't ripple the floor like the psw1200 can.Thats about it.

I ran out and bought this sub the day it came out.I wanted it even before I demo'd it in the store.Circuit City is not my favorite place to shop, but they had what I wanted so off I went.
I ran it up against the ct120(Velodyne)that they had in the store.Remember that this sub just came out of the box as I was standing in the store.I unboxed it and a/b'd the 2.The ct120 had many hours on it and well broke in.Funny how the psw450 kicked it all over the store and wasn't on for all about 20 min. They only had the floor model and one inthe box.So I took it.
I got it home and man what a killer difference it made in my setup....rt1000p's,cs400i,rt35i,and fx500(switch out and a later date.It is just gone for movies. You can't hear it but you can feel it.I have it semi in the corner pulled out 26"x23out.Placement makes a difference for best performance.
I Love this sub,the only thing I don't like about it is that I have to set it up alittle different for music as it hits to hard.I got to set it 4 bd lower and then it blends well.(wish it has a remote to vloume up and down). And it's big brother psw1200 hit's twice as hard as it can damn rip the floor in 2,but at this price you can't touch it.
Great sub,I plan on adding another for my theater room when I'm finished building it.
