I just got this sub and all I can say is WOW..I thought it sounded good in the store but wait tilt you get it in your room...it just blows you away..and for the price why not get it...it compares very well to some more expensive models that I listen to...listen to some rock music with a very heavy bass guitar and you will want to keep hearing more...

Upgraded to this sub from the Polk PSW350. What a difference! Excellent base performance at loud movie explosion levels, yet also very nice at low volumes playing subtle jazz pieces. Great all round performer and at this price level, IMO nothing comes close.

Strength:

Nice high gloss finish, 2 10 inch subs, lots of inputs,
The bass will shake down the entire house. It's crazy.

Weakness:

Too damn heavy, who cares un less you plan on moving everyday.

I purchased the Klipsch KSW12, which is a great Sub, but I just simply wanted a lot more bass. After 2 weeks I decided to return the Klipsch and get the Polk 650, after listening to in the store. When I took This thing home and connected to my Denon 3300 via Monster M351 subwoofer cable.
Oh my goodness, what a difference. This sub sound excellent for both music and movies, where the Klipsch only sounds good on movies. This is the sub that I've always wanted. For the price I paid for this monster, there's nothing better. I think I'm in love. I shine it up everyday, just to see the smile on my face on that high gloss finish.

Nice clean deep base for music and movies

Started with the PSW 350. The size of my room is 15' X 20'and it is a very impressive speeker for its size but I found myself turning up the volume to at least 3/4 so I traded it in for the PSW 450. This had even better sound and was going to keep it but when I went back to the store I found out they had a open box on the PSW 650 so for a few $ more I came home with this monster. The first thing I did (besides lie to my wife and say it was a latteral trade) was put on Toy Story 2. I cranked up the beginning and it just blew me away. Awesome!!!! It complements my RT1000's perfectly. Highly recommend this speaker. I feel that a subwoofer is a critical part of a home entertainment center so it is worth the extra investment, and this speaker produces clean tight base. It won't let you down.

Strength:

Volume Control on Front of Sub, Loud

Weakness:

Accuracy and musicality

Bought this sub while on sale after reading many positive reviews and had one-month money back guarantee. I have my money back.

Specifically, I could not get the sub to integrate with my NHT 2.5i. Moved the sub allover the large 20 feet ceiling room (not a room that is prone to boom) and could not get it to sound right for my taste.

After finding the best location, setting the crossover way back, I metered the sound to match my other speakers. The sub still did not sound right. So I got out of my favorite listening chair and turned down the volume a bit on the front of the sub. Eureka, I had found the perfect setup for this sub. Now I was more content with the musicality but not the overall presence of the low end. Quite by accident (while listening to some straight-ahead jazz) I hit the "direct" option on my Onkyo 787 receiver remote and continued listening to my Jazz. About an hour later I noticed that the LCD on my reciever said "direct" and realized that my sub had been disengaged (The auto-off) green light on the PSW-650 was off to prove it. Puzzled as as to why I didnt notice the difference, I switched back to "stereo" on my receiver which engages the sub and their was no big difference in sound. The sweet spot I had discovered was the volume on the sub turned way down.

The bottom line for my integration with my NHT 2.5i was that it was not a good fit. While I dont dispute that it may be a great fit for some folks, I dont think that anyone who is looking for a tight, musical sub should go this route. On the otherhand, if you want a loud HT sub and are not that concerned with musicality, this could be a good fit.

Please take this review with a grain of salt. I am writing it after one frustrating month. In the final review, you be the judge- (as with any piece of audio equipment, just make sure you can get your money back if you are not satisfied with it your own listening environment).

Strength:

Awesome performance for the price

Weakness:

No spikes. All subwoofers should be supplied with carpet spikes, just like the do for floor standing speakers to help focus the bass and midrange.

I should preface my review by saying that I am only using the PSW-650 as a Home Theater sub, not for 2-channel applications.

As a HT sub, the 650 is awesome, especially for the money. Using the right cables (Monster Z1-Bass), the unit is capable of prodigious amounts of deep, articulated bass (very clean down to the mid-20Hz range). All in all, a giant killer for HT applications. Competes with units selling for hundreds more!
