Strength:
Clean, tight, bass and the price. Can't find a better subwoofer in this price range.
Weakness:
Controls for the crossover and gain are in the rear and can be a pain to adjust. I was skeptical when I first heard about this subwoofer. I didnt think it was possible to get a quality subwoofer in this price range but after reading the reviews and being on a limited budget I decided to buy it and just try it out. WOW!!!, was I surprised! This subwoofer has amazing clarity and is not sloppy or muddy with plenty of power to back it up. With some tweaking of the crossover and the gain it blended very well with music and theater applications. I am currently running it in a room that is about 18' by 18' and has a 20' ceiling with a gable and it is more than adequete. In summary I highly recomend this subwoofer to any one on a budget or any one that does not want to over pay for a product because of its name and is insistant on sound quality. Strength:
Fast, Clean, Tight, Accuarate, unobtrusive musical base.
Weakness:
This IMO is a great sub for providing the lower octaves but will not give the ground shaking some are looking for in home theater. Actually this is a review of the Pyle PDSUB 8. This is an 8" version of the 10" Pyle subwoofer that Stu reviewed below. I was impressed by the review that Stu submitted but felt that in my 12'X 13' bedroom that the 8" unit would be enough. I can say that I agree with Stu in everyway. This is one terrific subwoofer. Fast, tight, Clean and musical. Before this I owned a Advent passive subwoofer and JA audio downward firing subwoofer. Both were a major disappointment. This subwoofer does one thing the others failed. Provide a nonobtrusive listening experience. No boom, Thump or Ghetto base here. Just fast tight base that compliments my Aperion Audio 502D bookshelf speakers. Remember the E string on Base guitar is 43Hz so this will provide the deepest notes with accuracy. Strength:
Lots of clean power. When set up correctly, the bass is accurate. The 10-inch driver is fast. The bass floor for orchestral material is clear. Cellos and bass viol are clean and clear in the background. When called for, there is plenty of punch on kick-drum and bass line string instruments. Home theater is awesome. The 200-watt amplifier is plenty for my 18' x 28' x 10' listening room. It provides room-filling bass with its gain control set at 3.5 on a scale of 10.
Weakness:
None A clean, powerful subwoofer that is unobtrusive in the listening room. The description for this speaker says it is down-firing. But the duct is at the bottom of the back rear-facing. A much preferred arrangement. The speaker is barely larger than one cubic foot. The bass is tight, clean, powerful, and delicate, when called for. Unlike some other subwoofers, that claim practical crossover slopes but actually provide more shallow crossover curves, the adjustable crossover and level controls on this speaker actually work. Once it's set up at a proper distance from the wall, this is a great sounding unit. Similar Products Used: Paradigm PS-1000 |
