I ordered a REL Strata III from one shop here but the latter hasn't come yet so they opted to lend me their REL Q200E while waiting for the Strata. Installation was easy and okay. For the first few hours, you won't discern any improvements on the sound stage (I used the KEF Coda 8's and the Tannoy Contactors). But after sometime the overall realism of the sound (for Steely Dan and post-Pepper Beatle albums) was greatly enhanced. I tried so many crossover settings like 25 Hz, 43, but maybe I observed it was good at 100 Hz. The bass lines were very discernible, which were missing before. The pianos sounded more piano than before. Never have I enjoyed the Abbey Road album using the REL.
I also used the LFE option while the first setup was still on. The first setup was connecting the L/R inputs to the REL from the speaker outputs of my Yamaha A/V Receiver (RXV-692), in parallel with the KEF's. Movies simply got better. Recently I've watched the old Fifth Element and Scream videos and man, the sounds really helped you enjoy the movies. It is difficult, as I can say right now, that it would be the same with out a sub like the REL. Now, I can not really play music or watch moview without the Q200E. Without the REL, it's like having a chick with a pretty face. With the REL, it's a pretty face and a sexy body.

If you have doubts about using a sub, which you think could muddle up your prized stereo outfit, try a REL.

Now, I cannot wait and go to bed, when the Strata III comes along.

Strength:

Deep bass, well defined and lot's of power

Weakness:

No remote

I have a Q201, which is a Q200, with basicly an additional cover for the driver. The Q201 is an extra US$100 or so, which I find a bit steep. Why doesn't the Q200 come with a standard cover anyway?

However, I got cats, and I was afraid they might ruin the driver with their little nails. I figured the extra $100 might save me a lot more money on the long run, since the REL looks like it can last a century!

On the subject, everything about the REL is superb quality. The packaging is top, good documentation and everything you expect is included in the package. The REL is really small, which I can asure you my wife is quite pleased with. However small it's size, note that it's weight is rather heavy!

On to the output: in short, the Q201 sounds pretty darn good! It's way to powerfull for my living room (about 9mx6m), so check carefully if you can do with the Q100. I can only go to about 10% gain before my neighbours freak out. If I go to 20%, I freak out!

The bass itself is superbly defined. I listened to three other well known woofers, but the REL took all points for definition. Most music gain a lot of extra 'depth'. Individual bass notes are very well defined, and can be recognized with ease. Depending on your settings it can sound anywhere between 'boomy' and 'sensitive'.
Anyway, I like it, and that's the most important thing.

The only thing that really lacks is a remote. My REL is positioned in a corner, so to get to the controls, which are on the back of the Q201, is a bit awkward.

Concluding, it's not cheap, but it's by far the best woofer I listened to! But beware if it isn't to powerfull for your room!

Falco

Strength:

Convincingly deep, easy integration, small size, two sets of controls(one for audio, one foe video), solid construction.

Weakness:

Do not know

I think this is the missing piece from my system. Due to WAF small size is of highest prioity. Easy integration for mysely is very important. I do not want something intruding. Combining these 2 factors my choice is easy. It does not interfere with my SF Concertos with the speaker-level connection. It just quietly provides all the low frequency information which was not there before. With a turn of the mode switch, you feel LFE from dvd watching. Called the importer SUMIKO for setup info and got enough help. I have been going over all my cds to redicover what I have been missing. My system: SF Concertos, Bryston 3b-st, HK Preamp, Pioneer 525 + MSB Link DAC, Siler Bullets 4.0, DH Labs BL-1, AudioQuest CV-4.

This is the best thing ever happened to my system, after I mated the Q201E to my Maggie 1.6 and Musical Fidelity A300. it is like night and day. I never had any good feelings toward subwoofers for music before, after I read lots of reviews here for REL subs I decided to try it. WOW!!! Thanks, guys.
Now I am having the complete enjoyment of heavenly music.

Strength:

small size, huge bass, very clean and neutral

Weakness:

A very flimsy unscreened connection cable is included in the package. Buy a decent one right away

One word: Awesome!

The dealer where I purchased my Dolby/DTS sound system was so kind to let me take home a few different subwoofers to try out. The decision-making process didn’t take very long. A soon as I heard the Q201E (which is, essentially, a Q200E with a protective grille) I was sold – or rather, the Q201E was.
Not only is it very capable of reproducing huge fat lows at deafening levels, it manages to do so without the tiniest hint of distortion. The words “clean” and “neutral” get a whole new dimension. Listen to scenes 2-5 and 16-19 on the DTS-DVD of Saving Private Ryan (which, by the way, has one of the most fantastic 5.1 soundtracks ever produced) and you will know what I mean.
Do yourself a favour and get one! In this size and even at this price it’s very hard to beat!

Strength:

Small design, Incredible bass. 60 Months warranty.

Weakness:

This is my second REL Q200E. The first one had something loose inside the housing, which caused irritating resonance.

For about a year I've been looking for the best sub that would fit with my audiosystem. I've got an Onkyo TX-DS555 Receiver, and a Philips 32PW9525 Flatscreen TV. Frontspeakers are 1.35 meter homemade, and center and rear speakers are Quadrals. When I added the REL to my system, I experienced bass in my room I never heard -or felt- before. My room is pretty smal (21m2) and the floor is made of wood. As soon as I play a DVD or just use my CD-player, or when I watch TV, my room is filled with beautiful -and deep- bass. I noticed that the REL also works with various other devices. For instance: My receiver is gone for a few weeks (maintenance). I decided to connect the sub to my TV. The REL adds everything to the TV-speakers to make a real audio-system out of it! I can recommend this subwoofer to anyone that has a nice 5.1 setup, and has no .1 yet. People who just want loads of plain bass should buy a cheaper subwoofer, because a JBL that costs half as much as this REL can produce plain bass too. The things that make REL different from other brands:

- smal design
- Q200E does not just produce bass. It fills your room in an excellent way. You can hear it and feel it.
- quality and warranty. Rel has a good name, and the Q200E is backed by a 5 year warranty. Very nice, because else I had to buy extra warranty.

I'm very excited to have a REL in my room. The Q200E does more than I expected it would. Probably a size-thing. Thumbs up for this one!

Strength:

the best sub-woofer at this price. and over.

Weakness:

none. none. absolutely none. perhaps the italian instruction manual

Absolutely the best.
Very smooth and musical, not a boom-boomer like others.
I use it with SL3 martin logan (front) -aerius (back) -and cinema center channel with a denon 5800.
I LOVE it to enforce the bass frequency (down to 70htz) with the sl3.
Believe me......A TRUE BANG FOR THE BUCK!!!!!!!
