Very good little subwoofer. Good crossover. Makes great movie sound. Good connections and controls. Best price / performance I have ever heard. Maybe not best HiFi but makes lot of good (and even low frequences) BASS! Similar Products Used: Paradigm PDR-8 |

Strength:
Price, small size
Weakness:
Falls off below 45Hz after peaking at 55Hz, not suited to loud playing Obviously this is not audiophile gear here. I use this with an old Denon 1700 I have hooked up to my pc (equipped w/SB 5.1 mp3+ soundcard) with some KLH Platinum bookshelf/satellites. To that end - game playing, casual listening to cds and mp3s, it is adequate. It definitely makes its presence heard. Similar Products Used: Paradigm PSW 2200, KLH ASW110 |

Strength:
Perfect for desktop/micro systems
Weakness:
if you play for high volume, opt for SA-WM40 I bought this after I got JVC desktop system, it plays well, but I have to set tone to "0" and do not use any bass boost, then you'll get the most for this combination, since it has high cut, level, and phase control, I can tune it carefully to perfectly "connect" the cross-over point, it plays good at normal/relax level, but since the output is just 60 watts, it may be hard to work with loud music, though I have no problem to connect to another home theater system and turn the volume up even to make you ear pain... |

Strength:
Price! Compact Size.
Weakness:
Small speakers can't deliver the power that is needed at times. Well, I needed SOMETHING. So I got this thinking it would work well with my Sony Amp and DVD. And I was right about that. However, you can really tell the difference when you have the volume up, and that little box just looses it and gives that real crappy grumble rather than a loud and solid boom. Strength:
the sub out connect makes it easy to hook up two subs, especially if you have a big listening area. despite what people think this little thing does dip below 40 hz. hey it's worth the seventy four bucks i paid for it.
Weakness:
the weakness is determined by the size of the room and your system, this thing is 60 watts, it's perfect for my room. I have a pioneer 509s dobly/dts receiver, for almost a year now, i'd held off on getting a sub until getting a house. being in an apartment neighbors do not take kindly to subs. when i heard Montgomery Wards was liquidating i thought that i'd check it out. to my suprise everything was 80% off. There were some JBL tower speakers and one little sony sub- For the price i had to buy it even if it sucked. i could give it to my in-laws if it didn't work, they don't know the difference-i don't think MATLOCK has a strong LFE signal. I hooked the sub to my reciever and played around with large and small speaker settings on the pioneer. on big action movies, large on the front channels and setting the cutoff at about 50hz with the volume raised halfway is perfect for normal listening. this sub is perfectly competent for a small living room, if you have to have booming Sir sheck alot rap music go for something else, but if you want low frequency effects the way they are intended to be heard, this model is perfectly fine. for the guy watching the PHANTOM MENACE- dude it's in PROLOGIC ON VHS, there is no separate LFE channel-if you have a decent reciever with an attenuation LFE setting it will sound fine.
