People on this site are always putting sunfire down, they must have never taken one home it takes a while to get it right but when you do you will be amazed.I have plenty of room for a big box sub but why this is the best of both worlds.I also took the reg sunfire home good sub but cant compare.

This is a very easy answer.Do what I did, I purchased several Subs
on credit. And compared them at home.
One after one was eliminated.
All I was left with was the very
powerfull Sunfire Signature Subwoofer.
And at $1150. In my Ears there was
no match. I'll tell you that not only will
you feel the movies, But your neighbors will
all feel and hear this unit preform.
If you have plastic that has some extra limit,
I suggest no mater what brand you like,
Take a few home and compare side by side.
Remember it's your money.

Regards,
From Minnesota

Five months ago I auditioned: Velo. HSG-10B, HGS-12B, and the Sunfire II, Sig. Subs. I like to spend 50% listening to music and 50% watching movies. Based on size and $$, I purchased the HGS-10B. Sunfire was just (1) to expensive and (2) where I audition the Sunfire subs the dealer failed to setup and placed both subs correctly.
I found Velo sub very user friendly, this sub was not placement sensitive in my living room, it sounded awesome in both HT or in music applications. I suspect the Sunfire was more difficult to setup and it is more placement dependant . The big question should be RELIABILITY?? This is what I found out, the hard way……

When I got home and installed my HGS-10 it took about 1 min. to blow up. I did not even got a chance to go into speaker setup mode and set the sub option to ON! in my A/V receiver. When I removed the AC cord sparks flew out of the AC outlet. My dealer replaced it immediately. The second HGS-10 worked great. Everyone that visited us left with their jaws wide open for about three months. One night my wife was watching Ally McBeale she tough we were under a nuclear attack! The sub started making loud noises like one of those instruments that measure radiation. After talking to Velo for awhile they acknowledged initial technical difficulties with the HGS-10. In the process they convinced me to upgrade to HGS-12. According to them, the HGS-12 works more efficiently, sounds better and they have not experienced any premature failures. I went back to my dealer they took back my HGS-10 no question asked and I paid more money for the upgrade.

HGS-12 was definitely an improvement. Except, for it made a faint noise, like a aquarium air pump which is how I figured out it never turned off. I took it back to the dealer and got my forth one (2nd HGS-12). I plugged it in and nothing happened. That was it for me. I took it back and got my money back. Based on my experience have serious long term reliability concerns.

I audition other subs. My final decision was the Sunfire Sig., which to my surprise, I found out their new pricing was more competitive. I auditioned the Sig.at a different dealer. Based on their setup in a HT application the sub blew away any HGS. Music was somewhat OK. I had my reservations. The dealer told me take it home and if you do not like bring it back.

It was definitely more challenging to setup correctly. Initially the sub did have hum when I first powered it up (ground loop). I bought a ground breaker adapter and the problem went away. The manual documented this issue very effectively. Once I found its right place (sweet spot) and fine tuned it for a couple of hrs. it behaved totally different. I can honestly tell you I do not have any reservation in telling anyone this sub is in a category all by itself.

I played a couple of CD’s that I am quite familiar with and I swear I felt vibes that I had no idea existed and I owned these CD’s for a few yrs now. I really know what I was missing (MONSTER 16HZ). When I watched the Fifth Element Chapter 3 when the alien ship shine its lights in the pyramid my sinus cleared up!

Do not let the setup and the not musical velodyne vs. sunfire stories intimidate you. There is absolutely no comparison!!!

Strength:

Very compact, powerful(will play loud if needed in a quite large room with no stress),digs deep(deep enough to fit JOJO and his HGS18!).No boominess, clean bass.

Weakness:

Needs careful placement(read JOJO's bashing and you will see)

The Sunfire Signature sub is a great minisub for medium to large rooms. It will play loud and clean with no problems. It will also dig down to about 20Hz clean. If you can use double sided stickers to fix the sub to the floor the sub will give more impact.the construction quality and parts were all of great quality on my unit.I have 2 sunfire subs.

In conclusion its a awesome movie sub and a fair music sub.
I say fair here because you can buy a REL or a M&K that is faster and gives better results with music.Still overall the Sunfire Signature is a great value and one of the best subs below two grand.

JOJO never heard a well set up Sunfire Signature and probably works for the competition. To be fair you compare the Signature to the HGS-12.The HGS-12 is a good music sub(a bit better on music)but is left behind the Signature on movies. Both are good products.

Strength:

Size, Great Movie Sub

Weakness:

Hard to set up, music is not up to snuff

Ok,,,
Let me set the record straight, I like Carvers stuff, as a matta fact always have.
I was looking at a VelHGS12 and the dealer talked me out'a it and said try the Sunfire its the Movie standard for THX.
Well I'll say this sub really plays movies to the max, Me and the little one was watching the Iron Giant, the 3rd or 4th time mind ya, we both jumped in scenes that played sounds I/we did'nt know were there, WOW.....
I sold my 4/5 year old Vel...Maynot have done movies all that great, but sure could play music.
The short of it, buy 2 sub's, one for music one for movies, Unless I'm miss'n the boat this sub blows for music.

Strength:

Ability to reach lows as previously unimagined with my system. It has the ability to actually shake the house with some passages. (Favorite is the opening DTS trailer on the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over"

Weakness:

None with the product, I have had no problems with set-up. I did not even set it up according to the recommendations for placement given in Bob Carver's instruction manual. The manual could show a picture of the operating panel at the rear and perhaps a small explanation pointing to each feature for more visual learners out there.

I am actually amazed every day when I listen to both music and movies. The DVD is by far the superior of all media. It creates previously unattainable separation and depth of sound. There is no bottom end with this subwoofer. Explosions are so accurate, as well as jet sounds and Indy cars. I look forward to coming home from work every day to listen & enjoy. It is quite expensive, but like freedom, worth more than the cost.

Strength:

Powerful, groundshaking sound from the small 11" cube.

Weakness:

Tiny, but it sure doesn't seem like it!

Well, what can I say? This lil' sub kicks ass! It gives all the top subwoofers a good run for their money, if not smoking them all! I've had one for a little while, and it took me a little while to get the thing placed right in my living room, but once I got it up and running, everything was perfect on the low end. It might be a pain in the butt to place the little booger, but man, it's well worth it! There is an amazing amount of sound that comes out of the Sunfire True Subwoofer. I compared it to my friend's velodyne HGS10, and it just about blew it away. This lil' sub even comes with little feet, so it won't rumble away on you when fed a signal. Neat sub... invest in it if you have the money, or just want to spend a lot of money. It's well worth it.
