Strength:

Very clean, Very low bass, Extremely small package with HUGE sound!

Weakness:

Rolls off fiarly quick, so make sure you have larger speakers or a 2nd sub to blend smoothly.

This is a great subwoofer but has to be paired up properly. For a compact subwoofer this thing can easily get down to 22Hz and shake any house. For the deep throaty sound of muscle cars in movies like "Gone in 60 Seconds" & The "Fast and the Furious" Series, this subs makes it feel like the car is right there in your living room, you can almost smell the rich exhaust its so realistic.

However, I have noticed with many Sunfire subs that they roll off at about 80Hz. Sunfire says that its closer to 100Hz, which is probably true, but if you are using a smaller speaker system (as I am), then there seems to be a gap in the low frequency. Many speakers that claim to go down to 80Hz are more like 100-110, at least and a comfortable volume.

So i Say if you have some nice towers, this sub will REALLY enhance your systemm with no distorion, no heat (due to Sunfire's amazing Tracking Downconverter technology) and plenty of LOWWWW bass.
BUT!!!
If you have a smaller satellite or small bookshelf system you may do as I've done and get a 2nd ported sub to help give that Punchy, Impact bass like from a kick drum.

I recently connected a Velodyne Minivee matched with a set of Sunfire CRM-2's (small, 8 inches tall, ribbon speakers AMAZING!!!!) This was my first experience with the Velodyne Minivee. I was very very happy with the blending, The CRM-2's are rated down to 100Hz but cannot go any lower. The Velodyne blended beautifully and gave a very clean tight bass that sound spectacular with the Sunfire speakers. I only wish that I had installed a more powerful amplifier for to drive the speakers.

Strength:

Small, good for movies where space is limited

Weakness:

boomy

I had this at my house for a while back in the day and returned it due to boomyness. Many of the review I read here tell the same story. I have personally had friends that say they have this great musical sub with 0 boomyness. I go over there and think it is terrible. To each there own. I have 2 friends who have a Bose system where they think it is the best sound in the world. I sit there listening in pain while smiling and nodding my head.

I detect that there are 2 things going on here given the polarity of reviews here. 1. difference of opinion and too large of a standard deviation in quality.

I love my Sunfire. Clean, low and accurate. However, I recently moved to a 2nd floor apartment and I was having trouble getting the same bass response I was so accustomed to listening to. I had to find a "tweak". I went to Lowe''s in search of a solid, flat surface that I could use to decouple the subwoofer from the floor. I found 12"x12" patio stones that were approximately 1-1/2" thick. Each one weighs 22 pounds. I bought one stone, one can of black paint, some adhesive tack putty and I already had some points from Parts Express. I got home and spray painted the gray stone over to black. One dry, I applied the points to the underside of the stone with liquid nails. Since the underside was not going to be seen, I was generous with the stuff. Once dry, I applied four quarter size balls of adhesive putty and place the subwoofer on top. For those that own a Sunfire, you know how heavy the sub is. The sub is firmly in place. So was the tweak successful? I believe so!! The bass had the accurate attack and decay that I was used to. The lows seemed tighter and bass notes had increased detail. Prior to the tweak, I had a large picture frame on the wall that never rattled. Now the frame rattles. I guess I have to find a tweak for that as well. Give it a try, I think you might be impressed with what you hear. Happy listening!!

Strength:

Compactness and warranty.

Weakness:

Quality and quantity of low bass.

I apologize for posting and addendum to an addendum, but I feel an injustice was done to the audiophile from Jakarta in impuning his credibility with regards to the "clacking' he reported in his Sunfire. I realize the intent of this site it "one audiophile, one voice": I pray, forgive me.

I was at the local Ultimate Electronics yesterday to help a family friend choose a sub for his new theatre system. The salesman played, among others, a Sunfire True Sub, and the thing was clacking wildly at mild volumes, bottoming terribly, and obviously blown. Curiously, across town at one of my favorite audio/video salons (I won't openly reveal where, out of friendship: e-mail me if you live in the area and it's relevant to you...), a young kid demoed us a PSB Subsonic 6 that was OBVIOUSLY BLOWN! Is it any wonder the smart boys (and girls) are buying their gear on the internet?

One last comment: respectfully, to Cheap Tube, your all KLH/Bose/Sunfire system may make Insane Clown Pussies and Two-Pump Shakur sound great, but MUSIC requires a little more refined gear. Please leave the reviews of the Big-Boy gear to those of us with higher-than-room-temp IQs and two functional ears. Nothing personal.

At any rate, enjoy the gear, and the music!

If you don't believe me auditition it for yourself. I have mine mated with a pair of sonus farber concertos and solo center. If there is anything better under 4k please let me know!

Strength:

Loud, deep and clean. High geek factor.

Weakness:

Hum problem, solved by two prong power adapter.

This is an amazing little device. This is the future my friends.
I find myself listening to music at lower volumes because the bass is there even at low levels. I don't know what they are doing to make it bounce. I would hate to be there without ear plugs. Cops will come for sure.
It should be used with speakers that have a pretty good low end so you can roll it off above 60 hz, it gets a little boomy above that. Once its dialed in right, it sounds super deep, clean and tight, and can literally rock the house. Best $1250 I've spent on audio. Your friends will be impressed for sure.
I have had no build quality or other problems with the unit in 18 months of service.

The quality of the sound from the Sunfire True Subwoofer is not boomy if you turn the volume to a reasaonable setting, set the crossover to a reasonable setting, set the phase to match your speakers and enjoy. If you set the crossover to a point too high and your main speakers and the Sunfire are both producing too much of a particular range, it gets boomy, but then again, that physics, not a design problem. Try listening to kick drums with it, its very accurate.

distortion

well. where do i start. yeah yeah people like it cause it gives off a ton of bass which really is distortion. it has no musical quality it just sits in the corner and hops. i will say it is wonderful for Home Theater. but if your going to listen to 2 channel, why bother. the fact that it says it can pull some BS # of wattage out of the wall, i just dont understand, lets face it, it probably puts out 300 watts. maybe. people just get too cought up in the BOOM BOOM part, and say "yay it rattles my intestines" that means its good. sorry, the Snell PS10 smokes the sunfire in quiality. but if you like rap and Home Theater, by all means this sub is for you.

Strength:

Low bass, output. Size!

Weakness:

bit "slow", needs good placement.

Hi!
I´m one of those lucky guys who has friends among the hifidealers. This gives me the oportunity to test a couple of speakers over the years and this review is given in response to "rob".
The sunfire subs are great, epriod. there are some subs thats better in soundquality, for ex Dynaudio contour, but most often more expensive ones oand always bigger. To say that the sunfire cant produce low bass is simply not true! Me and my friends measured it to 18 Hz in a normal sized livingroom, so how low is low bass?!? Remember, this was at an impressive SPL to. Just cant wait to test the Junior, looks like a cigarbox on steriods and got some impressive specs.
Regarding power of the amp, its real. Its not the average class AB amplifier but a "swithcing" amp, class D, witch has better efficiancy then ordinary amplifiers. There are some drawbacks with this construction, but nothing that will ahrm the reproduction of low bass. At least not "psykoacoustical".That is, You want hear the difference anyway so wy not take advantage of more power?
giving this sub a five, five.I was thinking about four, five but because of some harsh words without thougt I´m leaning over to a five. And, the SIZE!!
PS, I had a hard time keeping this little beast in one place but we have different powergrids here then in the US so the sub is shipped with a converter. Its heavy so placing it on top of the sub makes it stay in place. :-)
