To elaborate on comments I made on The True Subwoofer 12/14/97 for BHINDU. The Sunfires are very RF sensitive, which will cause them to turn on and off with clicking and puffing sounds, even when not playing your system. Reversing your electric plugs or trying different outlets will help. Also you can hear the woofers turn themselves off a few moments after playing low bass passages, very annoying at times when music changes to soft or sarien. Cannot hold itself down on the floor with very low organ notes, which can cause vibration if on hard floor. I gave it 4 stars as it is probably not as good as th best Velodynes,- which are more then twice the price.

How can you believe a review by someone who cannot spell (Chris P.). Obviously, the Legacy Pacemaker gives you better bass (2 15" in a box the size of a small frig, $2,450 vs. 1,250). Dollar for dollar, cubic inch for cubic inch, you cannot find a better subwoofer, not Velodyne or cardboard HSU.

I picked up the Sunfire as the last piece of my current H/T setup. I have an Onkyo TX-DS838 Dolby Digital receiver, Polk RT-8s front and rear and a Polk CS-225 center channel. The sunfire replaced an older JBL PS-50 Sub. The JBL was a great sub if lacking in power with only 50 watts. The Sunfire on the other hand is tremendous. My biggest concern with a sub is size as I have a limited amount of space to locate it. This is one of the Sunfire's greatest assets. The frequency response and sheer output are also incredible. I don't have any of the problems others have with this sub. Mine is the MKII and I don't notice much distortion at very low frequencies. It is on carpet and I haven't been able to make it move a fraction of an inch. There are better subwoofers to be bought, but considering the price, size, and sound, this sub is hard to beat. I recommend auditioning one.

Even though I could't get these subs to mate with with Ml Aerius, They are great subs. They mate beautifully eith Totem Tabu's. Power and extension are phenomonal. As lon as the crossover frequency is kept below 50 hertz, definition and speed are also outstanding.

I like the subs from Velodyne, Hsu Research and Sunfire. I owned a Hsu before I bought the Sunfire True Subwoofer. I switched because I need some more space in my media room. Both the Sunfire and the Hsu are excellent subs under $1500.
I did have some problems with my first Sunfire unit. Sunfire has excellent customer service and truly stands behind their products. I sent the unit back and the unit returned to me works flawlessly. My normal listening level is between 12 o'clock and 1 0'clock position. The unit was placed on the bottom shelf of a custom-made oak equipment rack. No noticeable movement of the unit has been observed. I have not installed the supplied bigger rubber feet yet.

They tell a story at one of the local hifi shops about how Bob Carver invented the True Subwoofer. Well, Bob wanted to add a subwoofer to his stereo (Yeah, like he only has one. I sounds apocryphal already, but what the hell?), but Bob's wife says no. "But, Honey," I imagine him saying, "Don't you know that many people consider me to be a god? I need a subwoofer to maintain my status." "Well, Bob," his wife could justifiable have replied, "if you're such a god, why have your last two companies gone belly up? And besides that, why do I have to always find your goddamn remote?!" But we do know, or so the story goes, she thought subwoofers were too big, and they just don't go with the furniture. So, Bob saves the day and invents a high performance compact subwoofer, the decor is unspoiled, and now even his wife thinks he's a god. Wow, what a heart warming story. SOLD!
I bought the MKII because it is small, plays very loud, sounds very good to excellent, and is inexpensive. 4 1/2 wives!

I recently purchased this sub to suplement my home theater system. This sub is very sensitvive to ground loop hum. I had to buikd a special decoupler ($1.58 in parts from Radio Shack) to isolate the cable ground from my houses earth ground. No more hum. Anyway, back to the sub. Bass extension is flat to 20 hertz in my 500 square feet "L" shaped room, which doesn't support bass worth a damn. I've owned other subs and auditioned the Velodynes. The Sunfire True Subwoofer Mk II blows them all away in terms of bass extension and tunefullness of the bass. Bob Carver has designed another hit. By the way my front speakers are Legacy 1's (now called the classic"; the Sunfire sub integrates perefectly with them.

I went to audition the Sunfire True Sub MKII againstthe Velodyne HGS-10 (Velodyne is $300 more). The
Sunfire is better than the little pretender in
that is went lower and louder without strain. Keep
in mind, I went to audition the subs for mainly HT.
Even though my speakers (Celestion 7000) has
virtually no bass pass 40hz. I am not going to use
the sub for music that much, if at all(I'm not much
of an organ music lover or rap enthusiast). The Sunfire
doesn't have a switch to turn it on/off. So I added an
on/off switch to the end of the power cord, a surge
protector would do the job of an on/off switch as well.
The Velodyne HGS-10 has a useless grill that
kept on falling off, when I went to compare them.

It seems like everyone is expecting any
subwoofer to be great in both HT and music (too much
Stereo Review?). The Velodynes, Sunfire and Bag Ends
are good in what they're meant for-HT. If I was in
the market for musical subs - NHT, REL and
HSU(ugly sub! and not children or pets friendly)
would be on top of my list. Its tough to be great
in both HT and music for under $2000.
(However,NHT has annouced a module for the 3p to extend
the bass roll off - for HT -COOL!!! Maybe we can have
the best of both worlds)

The Sunfire was rather simple to intergrate into my
system. I bought the Sunfire with no regrets.

5 stars for the Sunfire True Sub MKII in what it was
meant to do/is - flat earthshaking bass and WAF.
And for mini-monitor owners - that needs to augment
their bass at 80hz - don't expect miracles from any subs.
ie: Bose, Cambridge Soundworks, NHT Superzeros...SOL.

My friends and I performed a side by side comparison between theSunfire MKII and the Velodyne HG-10. At lower levels the Velodyne started
to add it own color to the music/soundtracks, while the Sunfire MKII did
not. The Sunfire played louder and more accurately than the Velodyne.
Neither one of the subs had an on/off switch. The Velodyne has a
useless grill that falls off, when the sub is "pushed at high volumes.
Either one is good for a small and medium size room. Two is needed for
a large room.
I liked it better than my old Sunfire Sub.
Audition with Krell pre/amps/cd and B & W Sig 30.

I purchased the Sunfire True Subwoofer used from Audio Classics. The
salesman convinced me that it was a good match for the Apogee Slant
Six speakers which I own. Initial impression of the sound is that
of a bull in a china closet. It totally overwhelmed my system. I
tried several different adjustments of the subwoofer level and finally am
moderately satisfied with the results. I am hearing the bass that I
was missing on many movie soundtracks. However, there are still times
when the bass is either distorted or does not blend well with the Apogees
During these times I am tempted to trade in both my Apogees and the Sunfire for a pair of Proac 2.5'S. I need to listen further and make some more
adjustments in the controls and the placement before coming to a final
verdict on this subwoofer. Right now I am lukewarm.
as I listen further.
